New Dates for Spiderman 4, Thor and Pirates

Today, both The Hollywood Reporter and Variety are reporting that Paramount’s latest comic book adaption, Thor, has been moved from May 20th to May 6th. This is an obvious attempt to place Thor as the “big opener” of  Summer 2011.  With nothing left to fill the May 20th slot, Disney has stepped up and made it the home for the release of Pirate of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

The question that some folks actually care about (myself Not included) is where does Spider-Man 4 fall?  You can bet your last dollar that Spider-Man 4 is looking to open the summer.  Later in the summer we have to sit through yet another disgrace of a movie in Transformers 3 (let the flaming begin!).

So what does this mean for Spidey? Spider-Man 4 is still announced as having a May 6th release date and could lead to an all-out brawl for this date. »

[Exclusive Interview] Nicholas Hoult on A Single Man

A Single Man is simply great; everything most critics are saying is one hundred percent true. It’s nothing short of brilliant. If you happen to also be a fan of Colin Firth and Julianne Moore then it’s definitely a must-see — it ranks among their best works. Another reason to see it: Nicholas Hoult. You’re sure to remember him from the fantastic About A Boy and the highly underrated The Weatherman. Now he’s taken on a completely different role and has struck a cord of pure success. Luckily, I was able to do a quick on-phone interview with Nicholas where we mostly discussed the themes of A Single Man and I even got in a few questions about the upcoming remake of Clash of the Titans. As a forewarning though, this interview is filled with heavy spoilers so I recommend reading it after you’ve seen the film. »

Highly-acclaimed Swedish Vampire to hit Hollywood Big Screens

6 January 2010 5:53 PM, PST

Let Me In, an adaptation of the famous Swedish thriller Lat den Ratte Komma In, joins the multitude of vampire films coming to the big screen in 2010.

Cloverfield director Matt Reeves is currently shooting Overture Films’s Let Me In on location in New Meixico. The cast includes Kodi Smit-McPhee (The Road), Chloe Moretz (Kick-Ass) and Oscar nominee Richard Jenkins (The Visitor).

The film centers on a twelve-year-old loner Owen (Kodi Smit-McPhee), who spends his days plotting revenge against his bullying classmates and his evenings mutually ignoring his bitterly divorcing parents by playing Rear Window.

During his spy sessions on the neighborhood, Owen meets Abby (Chloe Moretz), an eerily self-possessed and troubled girl. Even though Abby emerges only at night from her heavily curtained apartment, the two form a unique bond as fellow outcasts.

After a Millennium of Janes and Rochesters ….

6 January 2010 12:46 PM, PST

Since the dawn of the motion picture industry people have been trying to capture the essence of Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre on film. In fact, since the first silent film was released in 1915 there has been at least one movie or television adaptation per decade.

Cary Fukunaga’s new project will be the first feature-length Jane of the new millennium.

On the heels of the BBC’s successful Jane Eyre miniseries in 2007, which garnered three Emmy Awards, the company announced plans early in 2008 to produce a Jane Eyre for the big screen. Ruby Films and Focus Features signed on for production as well.

Like the most recent television and film adaptations, this new project will also be a period piece. However, the screenplay, written by Moira Buffini, sets a foundation for the project to capitalize on the more gothic elements of the story.

Will Avatar beat Titanic in the Box Office? Weigh in!

6 January 2010 9:51 AM, PST

Only 17 days after its premiere, Avatar will place itself among the most successful films in history by becoming only the fifth film ever to make $ 1 billion in worldwide box office sales.

Let’s put this in perspective: it took The Dark Knight 231 days to pass the coveted $1 billion mark back in 2008 and James Cameron’s other blockbuster Titanic, 44 days. Now, barely halfway into its second week, Cameron’s Avatar needs roughly $352.1 million domestically to glide across that finish line.

While Avatar was admittedly never intended to be a box office topper, it is currently doing so in Russia and is actually the best selling Hollywood movie ever in France, India and South Korea!

In this week’s Entertainment Weekly, the magazine tried to uncover the secret of the film’s success, since it had no franchise to build off of like most of its predecessors. According to Box Office Mojo, »

New Images from Clash Of The Titans

5 January 2010 5:35 AM, PST

Matt Goldberg over at Collider.com has scored some great photos from the upcoming re-envision of the classic Clash of the Titans. While I am not anxious that this will be trash, I do wonder how they will fold in what has been done before. The classic film is such a thing of beauty for what it was and to re-make something like that could harm the original.

For those of you who have no idea what this film is about (shame on you) here is the synopsis:

The ultimate struggle for power pits men against kings and kings against gods. But the war between the gods themselves could destroy the world. Born of a god but raised as a man, Perseus (Sam Worthington) is helpless to save his family from Hades, vengeful god of the underworld. With nothing left to lose, Perseus volunteers to lead a dangerous mission to »

World of Warcraft Movie Marches Inexorably Forward…

5 January 2010 5:26 AM, PST

Inexorable: Not capable of being persuaded by entreaty.

We’ve known for some time that Sam Raimi was either in-talks, or had signed-on to direct the inevitable World of Warcraft film.

New bits of information have been revealed through an interview with MTV, and then collected in an article linked at the source below.  Robert Rodat, screenwriter of Saving Private Ryan and The Patriot has been commissioned to write the screenplay, which may or may not have the working title of:  Warcraft: The Rise Of The Lich King.  Not only do the fine folk at movieguys.org believe this title will change in the near future, I do as well.

Raimi and company anticipate a release for this film sometime in 2011, which further confirms that Spidermen 4 & 5 will Not be filmed back to back, which would have been awesome.

Stay tuned for more info as we have it on the »

More On Prince of Persia: Sands of Time

4 January 2010 6:23 PM, PST

Disney’s released a new, quite enlightening behind-the-scenes clip that explains exactly how these curious ‘time-sands’ work.  Best part of the featurette?  Mike Newell.  The man really is a class act, all-around.

Check the featurette out below:

Nine Movie Review

4 January 2010 6:18 PM, PST

If you were a fan of Rob Marshall’s Chicago and enjoy seeing award winners like Daniel Day-Lewis step out of their element to tackle musical roles, Nine was a movie attempted for you.

While the preview promises us all the sex and energy of Chicago, what it provides is just a lot of build with no climax. Much like that of the director portrayed in the film, Marshall’s execution feels frazzled and he fails to fully execute a unified vision for Nine.

Nine is based on a musical adaptation of Federico Fellini’s autobiographical film 8½ (1963). It focuses on film director Guido Contini, who faces a creative crisis and various romantic entanglements after the release of his most successful films.

While Nine was extremely successful upon its original release in the 80’s and as a revival in 2003, even the star-studded cast of Daniel Day-Lewis, Marion Cotillard, Penélope Cruz, Nicole Kidman, »

Avatar Crosses $1 Billion in Worldwide Box Office

4 January 2010 5:02 PM, PST

Holy what the what.  James Cameron’s Avatar, everyone’s favorite massive-behemoth-with-an-enormous-marketing-push-that-could, has just crossed $1 billion at the worldwide box office as of this weekend.  This is remarkable for many reasons.  First, it makes Cameron the first filmmaker Ever to have not one, but Two $1 billion-grossers in his career.  Let alone back-to-back $1 billion-grossers.  Of course, it remains to be seen if this film can actually surpass Titanic’s domestic and international benchmarks, but let’s just say I, for one, wouldn’t bet against the King of the World

Another New “Robin Hood” Trailer

4 January 2010 4:55 PM, PST

Ridley Scott’s upcoming Robin Hood has now received Three trailers – one domestic, two international – in what feels like as many weeks.  This features little brand new footage, but does do a better job showing off the scale of the piece, which appears to be as massive as Ridley’s own Kingdom of Heaven.

Just riddle us this, Ridley:  Is this going to be in 3-D or not?  And if it is, isn’t it a bit late to begin that process?

Same Robin Hood time:  May 14th, 2010.

Same Robin Hood place: A theater near you.

Top 10 Movies of the decade

4 January 2010 10:30 AM, PST

Yes, I am well aware that I am late to the game but better late than never, I have heard a couple of people say. I must admit this took a shorter time than I thought it would. Looking back on so many films, the ones in my blu-ray library and the ones that just stick out in my head, the list was Huge. Narrowing them down into a top 10 list was something that was a very hard task.

To get the list was something I wanted to put out there. This list is not perfect by any means. I know for a fact I am missing some movies that should be on here. With that said, this is my list and I love each of these movies and cannot see them being pushed out.

This list is not a list of which one is better, this list contains 10 movies »

Daybreakers Movie Reviews

4 January 2010 10:04 AM, PST

The idea of a vampire like Bromley feeding off the misery of his own kind is an intriguing one. But the Spierig brothers never truly commit to dissecting the economics of supply and demand during a time of crisis. Then again, it’s just one of many ideas pursued by the Spierig Brothers that are never fully realized.

How about the allure of vampirism being too strong to resist? You don’t age and you live forever. Hey, I understandable why a girl would rather burn to death in the sunlight than remain trapped for eternity in the body of a 10-year-old year child. But why would Dalton – 35 (again for the 10th time) and upwardly mobile – resist being a vampire when his human-hunter brother Frankie (Michael Dorman) embraces it? Dalton’s actions reveal that vampires do not completely lose their moral code when their humanity is sucked right out of them. »

Toy Story 1 and 2 finally in Blu!

4 January 2010 9:56 AM, PST

We’re going to get the Blu-rays of Toy Story and Toy Story 2 at the end of March and I must say I am excited. Yes for myself along with my 3 year old daughter who adores them. With a new trailer released today and Pixar Talk reporting that they’ll be released on March 23rd, what more could a 3 year old want from the blu-ray folks. While special features are something new to the blu-ray discs, I am just excited to see the transfer itself from DVD.

This does actually come at a great time for the folks out there that haven’t seen these movies. Such great classics followed up by the upcoming summer release of Toy Story 3. Check out our Toy Story 3 page for more info and trailers to come!

Now I do want to say that while there is a new trailer supposedly in blu-ray quality, »
