Marjorie Prime review

The trailer for Sundance favourite Marjorie Prime has debuted online. The film premiered at the Utah festival back in January before making its way to UK shores this summer at the touring Sundance London festival where we were lucky enough to see it.

In the near future, a time of artificial intelligence: 86-year-old Marjorie (veteran actress Lois Smith)—a jumble of disparate, fading memories—has a handsome new companion (Jon Hamm) who looks like her deceased husband and is programmed to feed the story of her life back to her. What would we remember, and what would we forget, if given the chance? Also starring Geena Davis and Tim Robbins, Marjorie Prime is based on Jordan Harrison’s Pulitzer-nominated play, exploring memory and identity, love and loss.

You can check out our review of the film over here and the new trailer below. Marjorie Prime will premiere in select U. »

Mark Wahlberg In Talks To Replace Ben Affleck In Netflix’s ‘Triple Frontier’

Mark Wahlberg is reportedly in talks to replace Ben Affleck in J.C. Chandor’s big Netflix project Triple Frontier. Affleck jumped ship a couple of weeks ago, but with a shoot set for Hawaii in August, a replacement had to be sought and implemented quickly to meet the start date.

If he signs, Wahlberg will join the already cast Charlie Hunnam, Garrett Hedlund and Pedro Pascal in the film, which revolves around notorious border zone between Paraguay, Argentina, and Brazil where the Igazu and Parana rivers converge – a haven for organized crime.

The likes of Johnny Depp, Tom Hanks, Tom Hardy, Channing Tatum, Will Smith and Mahershala Ali have all been associated with the project over various development stages. Mark Boal (Detroit) wrote the screenplay.

As well as Hawaii, the shoot will also take in Columbia over the coming months.

More as we get it.

The Hollywood trade papers are reporting that three directors are leading the way to helm the next James Bond movie, which we reported earlier this week has a release date set for November 2019.

Denis Villenueve (Sicario, Arrival), David MacKenzie (Hell or High Water, Starred Up) and Yann Demange (’71, White Boy Rick) are the names on the wish-list over at Eon Productions. The word on the stree (or in Variety), is the that Yann Demange is the frontrunner to take over the next installment, which should see Daniel Craig return for a fifth time as 007.

The trade also reports that Warner Brothers is the potential new home for the Bond franchise after the series’ distribution deal with Sony Pictures came to a close following the release of the last Bond adventure Spectre back in 2015.

That movie grossed $880 million at the worldwide box office, while its predecessor Skyfall brought in a whopping $1.1 billion worldwide. »

Home Entertainment Review: Wolves at the Door

Charles Manson is one of America’s most infamous criminals. During the sixties he formed a cult in California which culminated in a murder spree. The most prolific of those murders were that of Sharon Tate, wife of director Roman Polanski, and four other people at her residence. This is the true story upon which new DVD release Wolves at the Door hones in on.

Directed by John R. Leonetti (AnnabelleWish Upon), the movie stars Arrow‘s Katie Cassidy as Tate, and Agent of Sheild‘s Elizabeth Henstridge as her Bff Abigail. Given that Leonetti has been director of photography on films such as The Conjuring and Insidious you would be forgiven for expecting Wolves to be terrifying. Sadly it doesn’t manage to convey any sense of dread or tension. The whole affair is rather bland, the action takes forever to get going, and when it does, it’s just not that exciting. »

Showrunner Steven Moffat spoke about the public’s reaction to Whittaker’s casting.

“There has been so many press articles about a backlash among the Doctor Who fandom about casting a female Doctor. There has been no backlash at all. The story of the moment is that the notionally conservative Doctor Who fandom has utterly embraced that change completely.”

24 July 2017 1:27 AM, PDT

Wish Upon review: John R. Leonetti cautions ‘be careful what you wish for’ in new teen-centric horror, Wish Upon.

Wish Upon review by Kat Hughes.

Wish Upon Review

Teenagers used to be the chosen kill subject in near enough all mainstream horror cinema, from Friday the 13th and Halloween, to Scream and Valentine, audiences couldn’t get enough of scared teenagers. Joey King stars as Clare, a teenage girl from the wrong side of suburbia whom has never gotten over her mother’s death. She lives with her »
