French Director Pierre Morel Gets Taken with Dune

4 January 2010 5:59 PM, PST

For the longest time, Peter Berg had his eye set on adapting Frank Herbert’s “Dune” for Paramount, but with Berg gearing up the alien-based “Battleship” movie and the Navy SEALs true story “Lone Survivor”, the studio has been looking for a replacement, and it seems like they’ve found their man in Pierre Morel. For those who aren’t familiar with the name, Morel was the director of last year’s breakthrough sleeper hit “Taken” with Liam Neeson, and he’s got the John Travolta action movie “From Paris with Love” due out early this year. The trades have Morel coming on board to work with a writer on a new draft of the script (Berg and “Bourne” writer Josh Zetumer have previously done a draft) and to eventually direct the film, which Paramount has made a priority and is already looking at a Summer 2011 release date. Duke Nukem Forever Movie Teaser Trailer? Probably Not.

4 January 2010 12:17 PM, PST

More likely a couple of kids got together and came up with this little “movie teaser trailer” starring everyone’s favorite alien-blasting Fps from the ’90s. The YouTube page where the vid is posted calls it a “teaser trailer” for a “Duke Nukem Forever” movie from HMCIndie, but I haven’t heard anything about it. It also looks like they shot the whole thing in Russia somewhere. See for yourself. »

Prequel To John Carpenter’s The Thing To Start Filming In March

4 January 2010 3:46 AM, PST

The Thing” is right up there alongside “Alien” as among the very best Sci-fi/Horror flicks ever stamped on film and the prequel, floating around in the dreams of Universal bosses for some time, is about to start filming in March in sunny Toronto. In the original, science types in Antarctica led by Kurt Russell encounter a dog being chased by some crazy Norwegians in a helicopter. After the Norwegians accidental blow themselves up with a charge meant for the dog, the American scientists chock the whole thing up to some bizarre Nordic sport and take in the poor puppy. The dog turns out to be a really nasty shape-shifting alien from a crashed spaceship the Norwegians dug up. It all goes predicatively from there. The original Thing was a real humdinger sonny. Matthijs van Heijningen, Jr. gets to direct the new Thing based on a script by Ronald D. Moore »
