Adam Lambert and the Greatest Gay Musical Icons of All Time
12 hours ago
The countdown has begun to Adam Lambert's new album release. "For Your Entertainment" hits stores November 23, just in time for all of those Thanksgiving raves. The album is an exercise in production overload and musical Add. Lambert (and his handlers) want to make sure no part of the Lambert army is left unsatisfied. "For Your Entertainment" bounces between Euro-disco, rock bombast, power ballads, and '80s synth attacks. It's an album seemingly made by a focus group instead of musicians. Despite the musical hopscotch, one thing is consistent: Lambert's gayness. "For Your Entertainment" is unmistakably an album meant for gay greatness. The Glambert has joined the ranks of the great gay icons. In fact, with this album (and what is certain to be an insanely overblown tour), Lambert is staking his claim as The gay musical icon. The cover alone should... »

When Hollywood Calls Morals Into Question: A Lesson From the Book of Jon
13 hours ago
Sometime last week, I stumbled across a short story describing a man who was being publicly accused of walking -- or, more accurately, sprinting -- down a path of indecency and inappropriateness that offended "social conventions or public morals." The man was specifically condemned for committing no less than three of the Seven Deadly Sins and then breaking a commandment or two, to boot. However, unlike a biblical allegory, there was no indication of the man's proposed countermove. No metaphorical slingshot. Thus, at the end of my read, I asked myself: Wwjd? In my story, though, the "J" stands for Jon. Gosselin, to be precise. And the controversy described above refers to a recent lawsuit filed by Discovery Talent Services, LLC, a talent agency which secures the services of individuals who appear... »

How David Hasselhoff Toppled the Berlin Wall: Music Memories From November, 1989
13 hours ago
One crisp autumn morning after a long night of Wildbrau beer and Spaetzle noodles, I awoke atop an Ikea bunk bed to find David Hasselhoff hovering over me, wearing nothing but his "Baywatch" bikini. I was disoriented. He was tan and hairy, with a smile the size of Stuttgart. When I leaned in to have a closer look, we bumped noses. Lucky for me, he was just a magazine pinup taped to the ceiling. (Darn the low clearance in these Hanseatic-era houses!) I heard a muffled giggle from the bunk below, then I remembered where I was: spending the weekend in Hamburg with a friend's family and her five younger siblings. The Hasselhoff-on-the-ceiling prank was but one in a long line of pop-cultural awakenings I experienced in the fall of 1989 during my semester abroad in the... »

Bob Saget Means Well: A Huffington Post Interview
17 hours ago
Bob Saget is probably the only man alive who could pull off a fundraiser for a debilitating disease one night, and sing a tune like "My dog licked my balls" the next. In both capacities, he kills. It's all part of who the comedian is: a wonderful walking contradiction. Saget's arguably best known to family audiences as fun-loving dad Danny Tanner on "Full House" and as the good-natured host on "America's Funniest Home Videos," but everyone knows by now that away from family-friendly TV and nut shots, he's one of the dirtiest comedians ever. On Monday, Nov. 9, the comedian will continue his split-personality street cred by dropping F-bombs and drawing laughter for a cause that hits close to home. That evening, he will host the Schleroderma Research Foundation's "Cool Comedy -- Hot Cuisine" Fundraising Gala at Carolines on... »

ReThink Review: Disney's A Christmas Carol (3D) -- Don't Get Scrooged
6 November 2009 3:00 PM, PST
If you've seen any of the ads (including posters/print) for Disney's A Christmas Carol (3D), you (and kids) would think that the film is a funny, slapsticky, action-filled Jim Carrey romp that makes dazzling use of the advances in performance-capture 3D/CG technology. And you would be wrong. Very, very wrong. Thanks to Disney's deceptive ad campaign, A Christmas Carol is going to be a surprise to most viewers. And not a happy one. Despite the marketing, A Christmas Carol is actually very dark (in look and tone), menacingly scary at times, and almost never funny. And most amazingly, the film left me wondering why it had been made using 3D/CG in the first place, which is supposedly the film's main selling point. Can you see why this movie might have problems? Watch the deceptive trailer here Instead of a re-imagining of the classic tale,... »

Billy Elliot's Proud Papa: An Interview With Gregory Jbara
6 November 2009 2:51 PM, PST
The boys in tights may get all the press (and deservedly so) in Stephen Daldry's Tony Award-winning musical adaptation of Billy Elliot, but anyone who has seen the show knows veteran character actor Gregory Jbara subtly steals the show as the boy's proud (eventually anyway) papa. Jbara, who took home the Tony, Drama Desk, and Outer Critics Circle Awards for the role, has been waiting his whole life for a role that he could really show off his skills and shine in. He found it with "Elliot," and don't think for a second he doesn't know and appreciate that. "This role was a complete roast beef dinner," he said. "It's my coming of age thing...no more goofy or silly roles." Jbara has chewed up scenes on Broadway in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Chicago (as Billy Flynn), and made appearances... »

Can the "Yes Men" and Michael Moore Fix Capitalism?
6 November 2009 2:40 PM, PST
With billions of taxpayer dollars propping up the largest financial institutions amid news stories about record bonuses on Wall Street and forecasts for a "jobless recovery" at best, there are a lot of good reasons to doubt the core promises of the capitalist system these days. Populist anger abounds and two movies in theaters now are helping bring the evils of capitalism into focus; The Yes Men Fix The World by the "Yes Men," (opening in Los Angeles this weekend) and Michael Moore's Capitalism, A Love Story. Perhaps you haven't seen Michael Moore's latest film about capitalism because you've seen some of Moore's other works -- Roger and Me about the demise of Gm's auto plants in Flint Michigan, Fahrenheit 911 about September 11, 2001 and the buildup to the Iraq War, Bowling for Columbine about gun violence and... »

Lamar Odom Wants To Impregnate Khloe Kardashian 'Soon' (Video)
6 November 2009 1:49 PM, PST
Just two weeks ago Khloe Kardashian had yet to meet Lamar Odom's children, but the couple seems ready to start having kids of their own. Chelsea Handler interviewed the newlyweds on her late night show, 'Chelsea Lately,' and asked if Khloe was already pregnant, like her sister Kourtney. "Soon," said Lamar. "Okay!" replied his startled bride. Khloe and Lamar are not yet legally married. They had a stagecrafted wedding ceremony in September after a month of dating, and their 2-hour 'wedding' special airs on E! Sunday night. You can see their big, wet nuptial kiss here. Can a Stepmother Like Sandra Bullock Be a Better Parent than a Biological Mom Who's a Porn Star?
6 November 2009 12:57 PM, PST
Rarely when fathers seek full custody of a child are the facts so stacked against the mother as in the case between "Monster Garage" star Jesse James and his ex-wife, porn star Janine Lindemulder. The couple are battling in court for custody of 5-year-old daughter Sunny. Not only is Lindemulder a porn star, which is a career that one can argue has negative moral and lifestyle implications on a child's upbringing, but she is married to a felon and has an alleged drug problem. James on the other hand is married to Sandra Bullock, who has been called "America's sweetheart." I guess it won't surprise you that few fathers get full custody. The ones who even attempt it usually have an arsenal of evidence. According to the Association of Matrimonial Lawyers, the majority of cases... »

Global Beat Fusion: Norah Jones and Goodness from Benin & Martinique
6 November 2009 12:11 PM, PST
It was shortly after 9/11 that I first saw Norah Jones perform. I went predominantly because my roommate was a jazz musician, and I was being sold on a jazz singer by a publicist. When I found out that Jim not only knew of Jones, but went to music school with her, I figured it would be a worthwhile voyage on a cold evening. Jim and I walked ten blocks to the Grove St Path station -- my new commute, since the Wtc line would be out of service for years -- and head to the Mercury Lounge where, along with roughly fifteen other people, I watched Norah shyly but quite sweetly play an hour-long set. Said publicist hipped me to the fact that "she's about to explode" when Blue Note dropped her record in early 2002 -- a hearty... »

Misha Collins Spills Supernatural Details
6 November 2009 11:54 AM, PST
Misha Collins plays the angel Castiel on the hit show Supernatural. And Castiel isn't your run of the mill, harps and flowing robes sort of angel. Supernatural's higher beings kick some serious butt. Castiel has dragged Dean (Jensen Ackles) out of hell, has no problem killing innocents for the greater good and according to Collins, has a pretty good tolerance for booze. I got to chat with Collins about what's coming up in the next few episodes, whether Castiel is still a virgin and his many minions on Twitter. Ok, I have to jump right into the upcoming episode “Changing Channels,” because I hear we are in fantasy TV land.Yes!So what can you tell me about the episode? You know what? It looked like the most fun episode that I've seen from a director's or cinematographer's standpoint. The show is jumping back... »

Alec Baldwin: I Have A Great Ass, I'd Love To Remarry
6 November 2009 11:39 AM, PST
Alec Baldwin appears on the cover of the new holiday movie preview issue of Entertainment Weekly, promoting his upcoming romantic comedy 'It's Complicated' with costar Meryl Streep. Baldwin, who messily split from Kim Basinger, his wife of eight years, in 2001, talks about his own complicated love life and taking his clothes off for the movie. On his nude scene: "[That was] my ass double! You can put that in Entertainment Weekly so people know. I have a great ass, if I may say so. That's a part of my body that needs no surgical enhancement or rearranging." On teaching daughter Ireland about love and loss: "I had a pretty tough divorce myself, so sometimes I sit there and I go, 'Well, should I have worked it out? Maybe I should have tried harder.' It's also what you teach your children about... »

6 November 2009 10:32 AM, PST
Sarah Jessica Parker covers the December issue of Elle, and inside she talks about her Satc costars and twin daughters, Marion Loretta Elwell and Tabitha Hodge, born in June to a surrogate who is now at the center of a scandal. Two Ohio police chiefs now face trial for snooping on the surrogate in her home for tabloid fodder. Here are some highlights from the interview: On her love for Sex and the City co-star Kim Cattrall: "I don't think anybody wants to believe that I love Kim. I adore her. I wouldn't have done the movie without her. Didn't and wouldn't." On her decision to use a surrogate to carry her twins: "I knew there would be lots of opinions about, 'Well, why didn't you adopt? Why didn't you do this? Why didn't you do that?' and the truth of the... »

Rihanna: Chris Brown 'Had No Soul In His Eyes' After Beating (Video)
6 November 2009 10:00 AM, PST
**AP Text, Scroll down for video** New York - Rihanna on Friday described the horror she felt as her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown was biting and punching her during a violent argument in February, saying she saw "no soul in his eyes." "There was no person when I looked at him," the 21-year-old singer recalled during the second installment of an interview airing on ABC's "Good Morning America." "He had no soul in his eyes. Just blank." Brown was arrested Feb. 8, hours after he was accused of beating Rihanna after the two argued over another woman. He later pleaded guilty to felony assault. In the interview, Rihanna, who is no longer with Brown, described him as "definitely my first big love." She said their relationship was intense. "The more in love we became, the more dangerous we became for each other -- equally as dangerous,"... »

Stephanie Seymour Gets Naked In Vanity Fair (Photos)
6 November 2009 9:04 AM, PST
Supermodel Stephanie Seymour, who is embroiled in a bitter divorce with estranged husband Peter Brant, has taken her clothes off for Vanity Fair. Brant is a multimillionaire businessman and polo pony breeder who is seeking sole custody of the couple's three children because, he claims, Seymour is hooked on drugs and booze and has repeatedly cheated on pee tests to hide it. He also claims his estranged wife's shopping habit costs $257,000 a month. Seymour, 41, accuses Brant of trying to turn their children against her and ordering the domestic staff to keep her away from them. Also, there is a dispute over a Maurizio Cattelan bust of Seymour said to resemble either a hunting trophy or the figurehead on a ship's bow. Is getting naked the best revenge? Here is one photo and you can see more and read the... »

Interview: Christopher McDonald Plays Guys You Love to Hate
6 November 2009 8:29 AM, PST
Christopher McDonald admits it: "I love to work," says the 54-year-old actor, who turns up in Splinterheads, opening today (11.06.09) in limited release. Then he shrugs and adds, "Terms like 'ubiquitous' are not good. I think I'm one of the only actors who's had two films opening against each other on the same weekend, like, five different times. But hey, I don't choose the dates. I just like great parts." Or parts he can convince himself might be great: "I don't say yes to everything," he argues. "I do turn things down. But I do look for ways to say yes." "For me, it's got to be a good story, or I've got to like the character. It might be about who's directing it or who else is involved. It might be the economics of it. Or it might be a great... »

Actor Matthew Marsden Hides Right-Wing Political Views
6 November 2009 8:20 AM, PST
Americans take it on faith that movie stars are politically liberal. Whether the celebrity lives in L.A. or New York, from Streisand to Sarandon, we know how they see the world because they're honest about it. Some don't think liberal actors should espouse personal views. The performer should shut up and dance, or sing, or act. This is different from other professions. If you sit at the corner bar, you'll hear a butcher, baker, candlestick maker opine on all sorts of things in public, often loudly after a few drinks. It's their right, yet they'll also be the first to tell you that so-called "famous people" shouldn't do so.....unless they're conservative, of course. The Dixie Chicks? Never, never, never. The new documentary from Academy Award-winning director Barry Levinson, Poliwood examines the intersection of politics and... »
