Rosenberg says that he was at Miramax for what he calls the “golden age,” when films like “Pulp Fiction,” “Shakespeare in Love” and “Good Will Hunting” were made and released. He also said that he was young and “sure he had struck gold” by working with the Weinstein brothers, Harvey and Bob. Now, »

Here’s Who Can Sue Harvey Weinstein – and Who Can’t

If proven, most of the accusations against Harvey Weinstein would constitute textbook sexual harassment. But most of the women who say he targeted them are not legally able to sue. Those who say Weinstein targeted them in the 1990s and 2000s probably cannot sue for sex harassment because the statute of limitations has passed, attorneys familiar with harassment laws told TheWrap. Those women include Rose McGowan, Rosanna Arquette, Ashley Judd, Kate Beckinsdale, and Heather Graham. (McGowan, who says Weinstein raped her, received a settlement, according to the New York Times.) But women who accuse Weinstein of fairly recent misconduct can still. »

Netflix CEO Reed Hastings Denies Interest in Buying Weinstein Co.

After the recent string of sexual harassment allegations and termination of honcho Harvey Weinstein, the Weinstein Company — or pieces of it — are looking for a buyer. One company who isn’t likely to write the check: Netflix. “It would be extremely unlikely for us to be a bidder for the firm,” Netflix CEO Reed Hastings said on a webcast following the company’s third-quarter earnings release Monday afternoon. While Netflix’s market cap of $87 billion would allow it to easily absorb TWC’s TV business and film library, which will almost certainly sell for less than $1 billion in total, the streaming. »

Netflix CEO Reed Hastings Says Disney Pullout Won’t Stop International Growth

Fresh off its strong third quarter earnings report, with the company adding another 5.3 million subscribers into the fold, Hastings said on its earnings call the concerns about Disney have been overblown. With the Mouse House aiming to break away and start its own streaming service in 2019, Hastings said move will have little impact on its continued international rollout. Shame on ‘Ray Donovan’ for Treating Animal Cruelty as Set Dressing (Guest Blog)

It’s rare when I feel so invested in a cable series that I’m offended by a single scene to a point of reacting as I am about to. Last night, Showtime’s magnificent series “Ray Donovan” showed a pit bull dead and tortured, infested with flies, hanging outside a white-trash hovel. I was offended to the core. These are strange times. There isn’t a day that goes by where an image of a tortured animal jumps out of a seemingly well-meaning Facebook or Instagram post. The sickness is pervasive — individuals who feel they have to show the carnage of innocence. »

Former Gawker chief Nick Denton says the case of Harvey Weinstein proves Gawker-slayer lawyer Charles Harder isn’t as all-powerful as some people think. Harder represented Weinstein and promised legal action against the New York Times for a story that exposed widespread sexual misconduct accusations against him. But Harder bailed on plans for the suit over the weekend. “Charles Harder is dangerous to media companies to the extent that he has a deep-pocketed backer like Peter Thiel behind him,” Denton told The Wrap. Netflix Glows With Blowout Q3 Earnings, Adds 5.3 Million Subscribers

Netflix may have been overshadowed by streaming rival Hulu at last month’s Emmy Awards, but it remains second to none in terms of reach, as the company beat expectations by adding nearly 1 million more new subscribers than expected — while traditional pay-tv outlets continue to struggle. For the three months ended September 30, Netflix reported revenue of $2.99 billion and earnings of 29 cents a share. That easily beat the $2.29 billion in revenue and 12 cents a share in earnings the company pulled in during the same time last year. Analysts had estimated revenue of $2.97 billion and earnings of »

Newt Gingrich Typo-Ridden Tweet Garners Laughs Online: ‘Are You Ok, Fella?’

Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich took to Twitter to praise Donald Trump’s joint press conference with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, and it’s getting attention online for its many typos. Gingrich misspelled five of the first seven words of his tweet; the words he correctly spelled are “was” and “in.” It seems he was trying to say “President Trump was remarkably strong in his joint press event with Sen. McConnell. His grasp of the issues is very deep and growing.” It turned out like this, however: Also Read: Trump Wants 2020 Rematch With Hillary Clinton: 'I Hope So' Gingrich later deleted. »
