Yes People, Spider-Man 4 Is Delayed
Things are not well over in Sony Towers, following on from the rumours last month that Spider-Man 4 had been put on hold (rumours which Sony vehemently denied) it now seems that it has in fact been confirmed that Spider-Man 4 is on hold due to differences between the studio and director Sam Raimi.
The problem has arose because Raimi is hoping to have The Vulture as the film’s primary villain while Sony bigwigs are dead against the choice and are also hoping to crowbar The Black Cat in there for an additional love interest (Gwen Stacey: Spider-Man 3 anyone?). Personally, since we’ve already covered this story, none of this comes as a huge surprise. Yes, Sony denied it back in December, however it seems that THR have now confirmed the rumour and that’s pretty much all there is to it, this from THR:

If you’ve purchased Warner Home Video’s The Final Destination and you live in the States, then you’ll be treated to a lot more than you bargained for! Included in the package is an exclusive behind the scenes look at what is arguably this year’s most anticipated horror release – the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street!
Including footage that seems to be from the San Diego Comic Con, and interviews with Jackie Earle Haley (Freddie Krueger) and Platinum Dunes producer Brad Fuller, it’s a quick but interesting watch for horror fans. Check it out in all it’s gory glory below, courtesy of an Elm Street fan on YouTube:
Freddy Krueger returns in “A Nightmare on Elm Street,” a contemporary re-imagining of the horror classic. A group of suburban teenagers share one common bond: they are all being stalked by Freddy Krueger, a horribly disfigured »

Sam Mendes Signed For Bond 23?
Sam Mendes is in negotiations to direct the 23rd installment in the popular James Bond franchise, according to The Hollywood Reporter. News broke just hours ago that the British director was in discussions to direct the pic with Eon heads, Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, despite the well publicized financial troubles of Bond’s parent company, MGM.
According to THR’s sources, production is being fast tracked for the pic, expected to be the third outing for latest Bond, Daniel Craig, with production starting as early as June aiming for a 2011 release date. Sony co-produced and distributed The Quantum of Solace, the most recent Bond film and so are likely contenders to pick up the rights when they come up for sale.
Neal Purvis and Robert Wade are penning the script along with “Frost/Nixon” scribe, Peter Morgan and Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli will reprise production duties.

Kevin Feige Talks Marvel’s Past, Present And Thor
11 hours ago
Prior to the release of X-Men back in 2000, it’d be fair to say that comic book movies sucked balls big time, that’s not to say that there weren’t one or two gems in the late 80’s/early 90’s, but by far and large the likes of The Phantom, Judge Dredd, The Shadow and (shudder) Batman & Robin were all tacky abominations. Worse than that, any film Marvel had released prior to 2000 ranked among the worst comic book movies ever known to man!
Then came the X-Men, an exciting, intelligence translation of 40 years of comic book history on-screen and everything changed. Throughout the last decade, Marvel ruled the roost when it came to comic-cinematic outings and according to Kevin Feige that’s long going to continue!
In an article featured on Marvel.com, Feige, Marvel Studio’s president touches on that time in the industry and gives us some »

A Second Trailer And Two New Images From Paris With Love
11 hours ago
Following hot on the heels of the two new international TV spots earlier this week, a second trailer and two new film stills have been released for recently announced Dune director, Pierre Morel’s explosive action flick, From Paris With Love. Film stars John Travolta, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Amber Rose Revah and Melissa Mars.
The trailer features all the usual explosions and escapades you’d expect from this kind of action thriller, as well as some fresh new footage to boot. Personally I cannot seem to take my eyes off of Travolta’s shiny bald head, it’s almost hypnotic and it’s certainly a different look for the man! Check out the new trailer and stills below, let us know what you think…

Sean Penn Rejoins Three Stooges
It was a big “will he, won’t he” moment in cinema. The Farrelly’s thought they had him at hello. Has Sean Penn discovered his funny-bone after playing Harvey Milk? Could well be. After derailing the Farrelly Bros. Three Stooges venture to focus on his divorce with Robin Wright Penn, the paparazzi-punching actor is back on board.
Bobby Farrelly has told the Boston Herald’s Inside Track:
“We got him back. He always said he wanted to do it after, you know, taking care of his family.”
All’s well that ends well? Perhaps. Does the world need a Three Stooges movie? Will anybody from a younger generation actually know who the hell they were? Also circling the project was Jim Carrey and Benicio Del Toro. Carrey moved away from the film after Penn jumped ship. But now he’s back, who knows? Taking two serious character actors and »

Will Smith and Denzel Washington Heading Uptown Saturday Night?
Way back in 2002, Will Smith purchased remake rights to Sidney Poiter and Bill Cosby’s 1970s comedy Uptown Saturday Night. Not much has been done since, however, it has been known for some time Denzel Washington and Smith have been searching for a project to work on. According Pajiba, Uptown Saturday Night could be it.
The original starred Poiter and Cosby has two friends who visit an illegal nightclub and have a winning lottery ticket taken from their wallets. Hilarity ensues!
Could this be the project fans have long waited for? The prospect of Will Smith starring alongside Denzel Washington in a film is a pretty brilliant idea: as long as it isn’t turned into a smug-fest by Smith and they actually turn in a decent script and film. Washington isn’t particularly well suited to comedy, although he was funny in Training Day (in a scary way). Smith »

Warren Beatty: Easy Rider?
Or it could be: Warren Beatty: Sex Machine. I never thought I’d ever write those words. Peter Biskind’s authorised/unauthorised biography of the American actor and producer, entitled Star: How Warren Beatty Seduced America, has been causing a rumpus in the media. All men like to brag about their sexual conquests (real and imagined), but the staggering figure of 12,775 women who received some “Warren love”, is quite extraordinary even if it is made up. According to Biskin’s book the Hollywood star is like a dog with ten dicks and has bagged and tagged some very famous actresses down the years. It will no doubt cause embarrassment and annoyance (as well as a providing a great selling point).
Biskind is the author of notorious Easy Riders, Raging Bulls, a book detailing the rise of the Hollywood auteur. Many had complaints about it, including those who didn’t come off as particularly likeable, »

Pierre Morel Signs Up For ‘Dune’
News has landed from a far away place in space and time, well, Los Angeles. It is a message of potential greatness, earthlings. The word being spread by Variety at the moment is Taken and From Paris with Love helmer, Pierre Morel, has “taken” over directing duties on sci-fi epic, Dune.
Originally in the hands of Peter Berg (before he jumped ship), it now seems Paramount are mad keen on the French action director to shout “action!” There’s already a script for this done by Josh Zetumer, perhaps Morel’s good friend Luc Besson, will be hired for a re-draft? Since David Lynch was talked into making a version in 1984 on the back of Star Wars success, there has been a mini-series. However, it does appear Paramount want a big screen adaptation…perhaps it will be a thril-logy like Lord of the Rings or something!

Calling All Shire-Folk – Casting Call For The Hobbit
4 January 2010 5:29 PM, PST
With the lawsuits, the trouble at New Line Cinema last year and the well publicized financial collapse of MGM seemingly imminent, you would be forgiven for thinking that the long awaiting big screen adaptation of The Hobbit was never going to get off of the ground. However it seems that the prequel to the popular Lord of the Rings series is very much alive and well, and we’ve seen the casting call to prove it!
To date only three of the Lord of the Rings cast have been confirmed for the two prequel movies, to be directed by none other than “Pan’s Labyrinth” genius, Guillermo Del Toro, and they are of course Sir Ian McKellen as Gandalf the Grey, Hugo Weaving as Elrond and Andy Serkis as the love him/hate him, Gollum.
As such, much of the primary cast has yet to be signed, and Spoiler TV »

New TV Spot For Legion – The Angels Are Coming
4 January 2010 5:04 PM, PST
If, like me, you picture angels as beautiful, innocent guardians of the human race…then move along because there’s nothing for you to see here. If you’ve been keeping up with Paul Bettany’s latest outing, Legion, then you know that angels would as soon as rip your face off as look at you. Starring the aforementioned Paul Bettany, Dennis Quaid, Adrianne Palicki, Lucas Black, Tyrese Gibson and Kevin Durand, Legion is a Judgement Day-style action thriller with balls!
This latest TV spot focuses on God’s winged bastards, you get another look at crazy lady from the cafe and a close look at God’s (un)holy army in action, it’s pretty damn good, despite the 33 second runtime. Check it out in all it’s heaven and earth glory below:

International Trailer for The Karate Kid (2010)
4 January 2010 4:43 PM, PST
Given that when I first heard about this project, my initial reaction was one of anger and disgust, I was surprised at how the first trailer for The Karate Kid was able to change my perspective on this highly controversial remake. I am occasionally guilty of being too opinionated but then, I am film critic so I suppose that comes with the territory.
If you missed the first trailer for The Karate Kid, which stars none other than Will Smith’s own son, Jaden Smith in the title role and Jackie Chan as his mentor, then this International trailer might be just what you need. There’s really nothing new here when compared to trailer #1 so I do feel it lacks any imagination, still it’s a good watch and it might make you think twice about condemning what looks to be a potentially good film.

New TV Spot For Percy Jackson And The Lightning Thief
4 January 2010 4:24 PM, PST
A brand new TV spot has been released for the new fantasy adventure, Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. Featuring another look at the central cast, and of course “The Bride” herself, Uma Thurman as Medusa, it’s just another reason to get excited over what looks to be quite a promising film.
Directed by “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” and “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” director, Chris Columbus, “Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief” as it’s known in the Us, features and all-star cast and is based on the books by Rick Riordan. Polanski Thanks Supporters In Public Letter
4 January 2010 10:27 AM, PST
Yes, the Roman Polanski saga rumbles on…
In a very recent move, the notorious filmmaker has written to French philosopher Bernard-Henri Lévy to thank him for his support and asked the letter be made public. In it, Polanski writes:
“I would like every one of them to know how heartening it is, when one is locked up in a cell, to hear this murmur of human voices and of solidarity in the morning post. In the darkest moments, each of their notes has been a source of comfort and hope, and they continue to be so in my current situation.”
Since his arrest on decades old charges of rape on 26th September last year, Polanski has spent time in a Zurich prison, before posting bail. He is currently under house arrest in Gstaad, where he has a holiday home. The authorities and legal wheels are still in motion for his extradition to the Us. »

The Hurt Locker Picks Up More Awards
4 January 2010 9:44 AM, PST
After years of nearlies and almosts, Kathryn Bigelow finally delivered her masterpiece in 2009. In a career spent deconstructing alpha-male film genres such as the action picture or sci-fi, it has been her “Iraq war movie” that finally yielded universal accolades. However, far from being an anti-war polemic, the film focuses on a terrifying premise: war as addiction.
Not since Full Metal Jacket as such a proposition been made. It even opens with a rather telling quote:
“The rush of battle is a potent and often lethal addiction, for war is a drug.”
Although it only bagged $16 million dollars at the box office, thanks to a raft of ever-increasing awards, The Hurt Locker might be given a second chance. It thoroughly deserves it. On Sunday night, in the Us, the National Society of Film Critics bestowed a great trinity upon it: Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor (Jeremy Renner).

Cameron Is King Of The World…Again
4 January 2010 4:36 AM, PST
Avatar has been out three weeks and looks set to re-crown its director James Cameron as King of the World. The sci-fi screamer is set to knock The Dark Knight of its perch and could sink Titanic off the top spot as the biggest film of all-time. And that’s exactly what Cameron delivers: big. Michael Bay is no doubt seething with jealously and plotting something even, er, bigger.
Avatar grabbed $68 million dollars in its first three days in the Us and Canada alone. The Hollywood Reporter have it that it will finish earning around the $500 million…again, this is restricted to the Us and Canada. It has already been confirmed as the fastest film in history to rake in $1 billion. These figures will have Fox and Cameron laughing themselves silly. Once again, Cameron shows he is only in competition with himself. It also shows that special effects-driven flicks pay-off like nothing else. »

Orphanage Remake Gets Director
4 January 2010 3:54 AM, PST
Is 2010 going to be just a slurry of remakes or what? Mark Pellington has secured directing duties on the English language remake of The Orphanage. The 2007 Spanish horror film was directed by Juan Antonio Bayona and produced by Guillermo Del Toro. Its massive worldwide success pretty much guaranteed a Hollywood remake.
While these Hollywood remakes are generally a bad idea, I can’t help but feel that this has a better chance of not being completely rubbish as some others in the past. I’m still of the opinion that it is completely unnecessary to remake The Orphanage but with Del Toro himself co-writing and producing this may turn out much better than expected.
The original film tells the story of a young woman taking over the orphanage where she herself was raised. Along with her husband and son she sets about turning the place into a home for disabled children. »

The Thing Returns!
4 January 2010 3:41 AM, PST
If there is one exception to the whole ‘remakes are bad’ rule it has to be John Carpenter’s version of The Thing. His 1982 version is awesome! It really doesn’t get much better than that for sci-fi horror, delivering better shocks than pretty much any horror film that came after it. The original is also a testament to how brilliant John Carpenter was before churning out the likes of Vampires and *Shudder* Ghosts Of Mars.
Anyway, the supposed prequel for The Thing has been in development for some time but only now have Production Weekly reported that it will begin shooting this coming March in Toronto. The filming is scheduled to continue until late June.
It is being directed by Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. who will be working from a script by Ronald D. Moore and Eric Heisserer. Moore has had major success as a writer with the TV »

The Second Trailer For How To Train Your Dragon
4 January 2010 1:31 AM, PST
The second trailer has now been released for Dreamworks’ latest animated fantasy adventure, How to Train Your Dragon. The film features the vocal talents of Jay Baruchel, Gerard Butler, America Ferrera, Craig Ferguson, Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Kristen Wiig, the film is directed by Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois.
Having been a bit of a Dragon fan my whole life (seriously, who didn’t love The Flight of Dragons?), I believe this film could be a total blast. Add in a few Vikings and some serious vocal talent from our aforementioned stars and this could prove to be one hell of an experience. Check out the new trailer below:
From the studio that brought you “Shrek,” “Madagascar” and “Kung Fu Panda” comes “How to Train Your Dragon.” Set in the mythical world of burly Vikings and wild dragons, and based on the book by Cressida Cowell, the action comedy tells the story of Hiccup, »

New TV Spot For The Edge Of Darkness
3 January 2010 5:04 PM, PST
Continuing today’s apparent theme for new TV spots, the latest clip has been released for the latest Mel Gibson vehicle, Edge of Darkness. Being the second Hollywood film to be adapted from a BBC miniseries in as many years, Edge of Darkness seemingly has as much grit and conspiracy thrown into the mix as one of my favorite films of 2009, State of Play – and that can only be a good thing for sure!
Directed by Martin Campbell, Gibson stars as homicide detective Thomas Craven. When his daughter is gunned down in what appears to be an attempt on his own life, Craven soon finds that the web of lies and deceit is far more tangled than he could’ve imagined and soon finds himself caught in the middle of a massive conspiracy – just my kind of film!
