Akira Targets Thor: Ragnarok Director Taika Waititi

With his highly-anticipated Thor: Ragnarok hitting theaters in November, director Taika Waititi has just landed his next high-profile project, Warner Bros.' Akira. The director has entered negotiations to take the helm of this manga adaptation, which has languished in development hell for several years, and has never been able to get off the ground yet. This long-gestating Akira movie last made headlines back in May, when Jordan Peele turned down the project, following the success of his hit movie Get Out.

Deadline broke the news today, also revealing that the studio has always planned to make two Akira movies, each of which would cover three books apiece in the 6-volume Akira graphic novel by Katsuhiro Otomo. The last we heard about this project was that Akira creator Katsuhiro Otomo has final approval over every aspect of the Akira movie, which may explain why it's taken so long to come to fruition. »

Not too long after word broke that the Nightwing movie may be seeking American Horror Story star Finn Wittrock as the title character, a.k.a. Dick Grayson, new artwork has surfaced revealing what the actor may look like in costume. Artist BossLogic continues his tradition of speculative artwork, despite there being no confirmation that Finn Wittrock is in talks for the role, or that the actor is event interested in joining the Dceu. Still, the rumor surfaced after some interesting Twitter activity was noticed by a number of fans.

The artwork surfaced on BossLogic Twitter, shortly after rumors surfaced about Finn Wittrock's involvement. The original rumor started when Finn Wittrock started following Nightwing director Chris McKay on Twitter, although the director and actor haven't had any interactions as of yet. While this certainly may not be the most accurate way of gauging candidates for acting and filmmaking jobs, »

At the very least, »

Army of Magnum, P.I. Cosplayers Get Booted from Ballpark for Catcalling

In today's very touchy social climate, catcalling is an absolute no-no. It doesn't matter if you're Tom Selleck, Magnum P.I., or simply dressed as such. A group of over 45 men dressed as the famed Hawaiian detective learned that the hard way at a Tigers game in Detroit this past Saturday.

The large group of men were celebrating as part of a bachelor party when they were told by security that they had to leave the Detroit Tigers game. The men were all dressed in Hawaiian shirts, mustaches, and Tom Selleck's signature Detroit Tigers ball cap. The site of this army of Magnum lookalikes was certainly something to behold. But the ringleaders for the group deny they ever did any 'catcalling', as it were. And don't want to be accused as such.

Joe Tuccini is getting married soon, and it was his best man's bright idea to have the »

Melissa McCarthy's Cook Off! Trailer: We Dare You to Keep Watching

Are you ready for a half-baked comedy with extra cheese? That's what they're selling in Lionsgate's new holiday offering Cook Off!. It appears to be a mockumentary sold in the comedic stylings of Christopher Guest. And while it's aping movies like Spinal Tap and Best in Show, it could be mistaken for the real thing.

Helping make this look like an authentic Christopher Guest movie is the fact that the trailer actually has some laughs in it. They're hard to find, but they're there. And Guest mainstay Wendi McLendon-Covey is on hand as well. We have the first trailer and the poster for this comedy, which seemingly came out of nowhere, and must have been made in-between takes on the Ghostbusters set. From the look of the footage, even though Melissa McCarthy is being touted as the star, we might be seeing all of her footage in this two minute spot. »

10 Best Stephen King Movies So Far

It stormed the box office in September 2017, smashing box office records, pleasing critics, and quickly washing away the bad taste of so many poorly wrought Stephen King adaptations like the current of a suburban neighborhood sewer. Move over Ernest Hemmingway! Beat it Dr. Seuss! The Stephen King adaptation is a hot commodity in Hollywood once again.

Sure, those aforementioned authors have had their books adapted less than half as many times as the works of Stephen King. With so many adapted works from the same prolific storyteller, many of them are sure to be bad. And that is the case with Stephen King. If you grew up in the 80s, you might even remember that a Stephen King movie was not anticipated with the kind of must-see attitude of today's audiences. Many laughed off the notion, believing that if it was a Stephen King movie, it must be bad.

But as It reminded audiences, »

Wonder Woman Honest Trailer Dares to Speak the Truth

Wonder Woman may very well be remembered as the movie that saved the DC Extended Universe from certain destruction. However, that couldn't save her from getting the Honest Trailer treatment. The Screen Junkies gang has finally released the Wonder Woman Honest Trailer and it should please lovers of the movie and Dceu haters alike. This is something we can all rally around.

Screen Junkies released the Wonder Woman Honest Trailer just ahead of the movie's arrival on Blu-ray/DVD, which makes the timing just about perfect. The video points out that movies like Elektra and Catwoman scared big studios away from female-led comic book movies in the past, but that director Patty Jenkins managed to make this movie such a success by simply not making a bad movie, even if it isn't perfect. Wonder Woman abandoned the tropes that have failed the Dceu in the past and told an effective origin story, »

Margot Robbie Calls Joker and Harley Quinn a Messed Up Love Story

Harley Quinn Vs. the Joker is definitely happening. And while David Ayer had some fun last week sharing an old image from Suicide Squad that showed Harley in her Jester outfit, and got everyone speculating about his return as a director, it sounds like writer/directors Glenn Ficarra and John Requa might actually be taking on this iteration of the two characters. Out promoting Goodbye Christopher Robin, Margot Robbie confirmed that she's also heard that this director duo is on board for the super villain spin-off.

As nice as anyone wants to be to DC Films, there's no denying that their impending Dceu slate is an outright mess. There are movies in development all over the place, but none are a sure thing. We've heard that Shazam, which is technically a New Line movie, will be the next to go into production after Aquaman. And from there it is anyone's guess. »

The Croods 2 Finally Gets a Release Date

DreamWorks has firmed up some of their upcoming slate and it is a little surprising, for various reasons. Croods 2 is now set for release on September 18, 2020, and Spooky Jack is set for a September 17, 2021, release. Last year, it was reported that the studio canceled The Croods 2, despite the fact that the movie was a big financial success. For some reason, that has changed and now the sequel is on track for release in a few years.

The Croods was released in 2013 and made a very impressive $587.2 million worldwide. Even though it seemed, for whatever reason, they weren't going to do the sequel, DreamWorks Animation has had a change of heart and The Croods 2 is back on. Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone, Ryan Reynolds, Catherine Keener, Cloris Leachman and Clark Duke are all set to reprise their roles for the sequel, with Leslie Mann set to join the cast this time around. »

Jennifer Lawrence Explains Mother to All the Haters

Pushing all critics aside, modern audiences are pretty suave, so they may take it as a slap to the face that the star of a movie they hate has to come out and explain it to them like a bunch of school children. But that's exactly what is happening with the thriller Mother!. Directed by Darren Aronofsky and starring Jennifer Lawrence, the movie earned an F Cinemascore. While critics liked the movie, general audiences loathed it. Lawrence and her director believe the movie is being hugely misunderstood. And they have both come out to try and explain their work.

In Mother, a couple's relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence. It is a riveting psychological thriller about love, devotion and sacrifice. If we're to believe the star and her director, it's also about so much more.

There is no denying that the movie »

Nightwing Movie Wants American Horror Story Star Finn Wittrock?

Ladies and gentleman, the Dceu may very well have found its Dick Grayson. The Lego Batman Movie director Chris McKay is currently working on a Nightwing movie and, though we don't have a release date, we know it is in development. Some recent activity online, as well as a rumor from a DC fan page, suggest that American Horror Story star Finn Wittrock is the actor who has been tapped to play Dick Grayson in the Nightwing movie.

As reported by Comicbook.com, this rumor first started gaining some heat when some interesting Twitter activity was noticed. Finn Wittrock recently followed director Chris McKay on Twitter, but the two have had absolutely no exchanges whatsoever. Similar social media activity preceded Dceu castings in the past.

Then, the owner of the DC Extended Universe fan page on Facebook posted an update to their page claiming that an anonymous source tipped them »

Can Kingsman 2 or Ninjago Take Down It at the Box Office?

While the It had no trouble repeating atop the box office for a second straight frame in a row last weekend, it doesn't seem that it will be going for a three-peat, with three new movies vying for the crown in wide release, 20th Century Fox's action-packed sequel Kingsman: The Golden Circle, Warner Bros.' Lego Movie spin-off The Lego Ninjago Movie and Entertainment Studios' horror-thriller Friend Request. While it very well could be a close race, we're predicting that Ninjago will come out on top with $55.6 million, while Kingsman 2 will follow just behind with $52.4 million.

Box Office Mojo reports that both Kingsman 2 and Ninjago will be released in roughly 3,900 theaters, with Friend Request opening in roughly 3,000 theaters. All of those movies will still fall short of the 4,138 theaters that the blockbuster It remake was playing in last weekend, but after a record-breaking opening weekend, and a normal second-weekend drop, »

Valerian 2 Still Possible Following Positive Fan Reactions

Just because a movie happens to be one of the biggest bombs of summer doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad movie. And that very much seems to be the case for Valerian. Sure, the movie tanked in the states, arriving as the most expensive production in France's long cinematic history. But fans who actually ventured into theaters to see it loved it for the most part. And because of that, director Luc Besson believes Valerian 2 may happen sooner than later.

There were some big disappointments at the summer box office, including King Arthur: Legend of the Sword and Dark Tower. But perhaps none landed with a louder thud than Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, based on an old comic book that most in this country aren't overly familiar with. The movie was a big budget visual roller coaster that looked like nothing that has come before. Sure, »

Crossbones to Return in a Future Marvel Movie?

Are we in for another rather unexpected return in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Frank Grillo had a couple of pretty great turns as Crossbones in Captain America: The Winter Solider and Captain America: Civil War, but it seems, or at least seemed, his days in the McU were numbered. But Grillo recently hinted that there may be some more Crossbones coming our way in the future.

Frank Grillo recently spoke with Forbes about his work in the Purge franchise, but they couldn't help discussing his work as Crossbones in the McU. While talking about it, Grillo revealed that, even though it seemed like his character bit the dust pretty definitively in Civil War, he may be returning to the franchise. Here's what he had to say about it.

"I have three boys who are fanatical about Marvel, and I was surprised not too long ago because there is some news that nobody knows yet, »
