Sharon Stone to guest on Law and Order Svu
1 hour ago
Remember how Sharon Stone first made her claim to fame? No, I don't mean her imitating Cybill Shepherd in the comedy Irreconcilable Differences with Ryan O'Neal, Shelley Long and Drew Barrymore. I'm talking about Basic Instinct, of course. As Catherine Trammell, she had perhaps the most famous crossed-knee move ever in the movies.
Well, now the star will be returning to the crime genre. Sharon will be appearing on NBC's Law and Order Svu later this season.
Stone will be appearing in a four-show arc, playing a former cop who's become a prosecutor, an assistant district attorney. That means instead of answering questions, she'll be asking them.

Espn shooting with 3D TV, but will it score?
If three dimensional television is just a passing fad, then clearly no one told Espn.
The all sports cable network will implement 3D technology with a new sports channel, set to premiere this year. The first 3D game will be the FIFA World Cup in June.
Would you watch your sports if they were in glorious 3D? If anything, it would make watching soccer tolerable.

Time Warner Cable shopping for a new name
3 hours ago
They've been called many names before by their customers and clients and this week, they are officially looking for a new one. Not that one, sicko.
Time Warner Cable has officially launched "Project Mercury," a behind-the-scenes marketing project to find the company a new name by the end of 2010. Why now? First, they had to come up with a name for the renaming project.
Maybe we can save TWC some bucks by asking our loyal readers to suggest their own names. And remember, all suggestions are monitored for obscenities.

You too can be wet and nerdy with Star Trek wetsuits
6 hours ago
You thought the waffles weren't enough? Now it's possible for deep sea divers to get their geek on with these Star Trek wetsuits available at Roddenberry.com. Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry was pretty good as the whole "selling out" thing upon the success of the series, so it's likely he would have approved of these items. Possibly he would have even incorporated them into the show.
If you see anyone wearing these wetsuits, then you can at least conclude that they're fairly wealthy nerds given the $470 price tag. If they have the guts to wear them in the first place then they're doing so well that they don't care what other people think. No doubt if this product is successful, wetsuit versions for Star Trek: The Next Generation will be released at some point in the future.
The red one should come with a warning label. "If you wear this suit, »

This is my favorite commercial right now
I have to hand it to Geico. I remember when I first starting see their TV commercials years ago, wondering who this little company was that was making these odd, probably ineffective ads. But now the company is not only making great commercials, they're iconic. How many companies have more than one memorable spokesperson/mascot that star in their ads like Geico does with the cavemen, the lizard, and the money pile?
The latest features Elmer Fudd. Kudos on being able to use Looney Tunes characters, Geico!

Is Kathy Griffin banned from CNN?
In 2008, Kathy Griffin said something on CNN's New Year's Eve show that was shocking, something concerning a heckler and his penis. A few days ago she said the F word live during the broadcast. Will she be back on CNN on December 31 of this year?
Not according to our friends over at PopEater. They say that insiders have revealed that CNN has banned Griffin from all future New Year's Eve shows. For the record, the network says that they have not discussed who will or won't be on the next New Year's Eve show.
So, should Griffin be banned? I'm all for outrageous humor, blah, blah, blah, but I think there has to be a common-sense limit to what she says on a live show. Her Bravo stand-up specials are one thing, but she says the F word on live TV after she says something equally risque' the year before? »

Guy breaks world record for TV watching
Another year, another TV watching marathon.
Jeff Miller, a businessman from Illinois, won his third (yup, third) Ultimate Couch Potato title at Espn Zone. Miller watched TV for three straight days, beating three other TV fans who couldn't stay up for that long. Not only if this the third straight time that Miller has won the title, he broke the Guinness World Record for watching television. He also won $1000 for a new TV, a recliner, a year of cable, $1000 to spend at Espn Zone, and a trophy shaped like a potato. He also gets to sleep for a few hours if he wants to.
Miller was only allowed to go to the bathroom every eight hours. I'm not sure if I could do that, especially if I'm drinking and/or eating during the three days. I think that would be harder than the staying up part. I wonder if they »

Wheel of Fortune has been on over a quarter of a century, so there have been a lot of mess-ups and weird moments on the show. But there are few as weird as last night, when none of the contestants could get "Regis Philbin & Kelly Ripa," even After the entire puzzle had been revealed!

It's time to play Spot the Mistake at the Fiesta Bowl!
Here's how our little game works. We'll show you a picture taken from the telly and you have to find the mistake. Sound easy? It should be if you have more than half of a brain, which it seems would immediately disqualify you from being hired by the Fox Sports Network.
Buzzfeed caught a shot from last night's Tostitos Fiesta Bowl between Texas Christian University and Boise State that contains a rather ironic mistake. Here's a clue: they didn't misspell Johnson's jersey number.

NBC picks up latest Adam Carolla project
Jeremy Clarkson's long lost American clone has scored some more TV time.
Former Man Show and Top Gear USA host Adam Carolla has put together a pilot for a new sitcom and it has been picked up by NBC.
So far, it's just a pilot order and not a promise for an actual series. It's also the second pilot order Carolla has scored since his radio show was pulled out from underneath him by the tightwads at CBS Radio.
This latest pilot is about a contractor who finds his life in shambles after a divorce. If it goes to the airwaves, expect Carolla's trademark hardware sarcasm surrounding toggle bolts and cordless drills with adjustable torque clutches.

Antiques Roadshow jade objects don't fetch as much money as thought
12 hours ago
If you watched PBS' Antiques Roadshow last night, you saw the biggest appraisal in the show's history. A woman from North Carolina brought in jade objects that her father brought home from China after World War II. The woman wasn't sure how much they were worth, but the appraisers told her they were worth $710,000 to $1.07 million. Turns out though that she didn't get quite that much when she went to sell them.
Maine Antique Digest reports that the jade objects brought in $494,615 when she sold them at Skinner's in October.
Why didn't the objects bring in as much money as the Antiques Roadshow people thought? It's all explained in the article linked above but too involved to get into here. It involves math.

New ABC cop drama inspired by The Office?
The major networks seem content to play it safe in 2010 by greenlighting more cop shows and hospital dramas. NBC recently renewed Mercy for a full season, and now ABC has picked up I-8-7 Detroit, a series that follows the exploits of Motown homicide detectives.
But there's a twist!
1-8-7, ABC's first drama pilot of the year, will be a mockumentary show. The detectives' lives will be seen through the eyes of a fictitious documentary crew, ala The Office or Modern Family (or Reno 911?). The show isn't touted as a comedy, but Variety says the drama will be tinged with comedic moments.

Review: Men of a Certain Age - Powerless
(S01E05) As the title of this episode suggests, the guys were all feeling a big powerless and it looked for a time that it was a position overwhelming to each of them. What was reassuring, then, was to realize that with age comes experience and wisdom and a way to figure out how to deal with just these kinds of issues. Each of our men of a certain age were powerless in some way for a time, but not by the end of the hour. That's one for the old guys, if you're keeping score.

Apparently, Tyra's show has just been one giant bowl of crazy
14 hours ago
I haven't been a regular watcher of Tyra Banks' syndicated gab-fest for obvious reasons (I have male genitalia and eyes).
But judging by this list of the show's most clinically insane moments in the wake of its pending cancellation, I'm really really glad I wasn't, especially if my gene pool decided to turn my outie into an innie.
Here's my favorite of the bunch: Tyra going into a crazy spiral over Vasoline ... or judging from her reaction and my occasional run-in with the neighborhood junkie, it could have more to do with mescaline.

Goodbye Walter Cronkite (again)
I was wondering when this would happen. CBS has replaced Walter Cronkite as the announcer of The CBS Evening News.
Now, those of you who never watch The CBS Evening News are probably saying, "of course they replaced him. Didn't he die months ago?" Yes, he did, but he recorded the opening ("This is The CBS Evening News, with Katie Couric") before he passed away and the show kept the same opening even after he was gone.
And who is the new announcer? It's none other than Andy Dick! This is a daring choice by CBS. Ok, I'm kidding, it's actually actor Morgan Freeman. Which is only fair, since Michael Douglas does the intro for NBC Nightly News (ABC has Mike Rowe).

Star Trek reaches new unexplored universe of merchandising with waffles
15 hours ago
No Star Trek fans, you aren't seeing an accidental divine image of the holy ones in that breakfast carb cake.
Star Trek's never ending cavalcade of memorabilia already knows no limits, but this truly has gone where no ad man has gone before. Eggo released a line of official "limited edition" Star Trek waffles to coincide with the J.J. Abrams' Star Trek movie.
They feature images of the new cast, the Star Trek insignia and even the ol' Enterprise herself in all of its buttery glory. I wonder if they released any of the waffles with any special filling. Biting into a raspberry waffle as a "red shirt" falls to his or her doom would make for a mentally unbalanced breakfast.

Review: Heroes - Let It Bleed
(S04E14) See, Heroes does answer questions. Now we know what happened to Claire's flying boyfriend, West. Spoiler Alert! They're Facebook friends.
This second episode in a two-hour Heroes extravaganza returned attention to Sylar's storyline, last seen walking away from Peter, having fully regained control of his body. Does that mean Sylar is back 100%? It may not be that simple. We also got the wake of Nathan's funeral, where we learned that Peter isn't finding it very easy to let go.
I also am going to choose to believe that Nathan's wife and kids were there somewhere. It's been so long since we've seen them, if they were there I'm not even sure I would recognize them. But I'll give the writers the benefit of the doubt on this one. We didn't see everyone.

Review: Heroes - Upon This Rock
(S04E13) Samuel's plans are coming together as he finally tracks down one of the last pieces he knows to make his utopian dream of a home for people with special abilities a reality. At least that's the snowjob he spends most of the episode feeding Claire. And in typical Claire fashion, she remains just as conflicted and confused as she always is.
Speaking of confused, remember when Hiro spouted off some nonsense and then disappeared last time we saw him? I thought maybe it was a reference to something I'd forgotten -- it happens -- but instead it was just the first sampling of whatever that dude did to his brain. It takes Sam's "swiss cheese memory" from Quantum Leap to a whole new level.
