Holy Sh*t: Rey Could Be a Palpatine in the New Star Wars Trilogy

It's been well over a year since Star Wars: The Force Awakens blasted into our galaxy, and we're still processing. While there are some lingering questions about the latest trilogy, one glaring mystery seems to stick out among the rest: who the hell are Rey's parents? While there are plenty of plausible theories, one insane internet claim out there alleges the most unexpected lineage for Rey: she could be related to Emperor Palpatine. Is Rey the granddaughter of the evil Sith Lord? We're unpacking all the most prominent evidence so you can decide for yourself. Her Fighting Style Is Similar Rey's first move in her lightsaber duel with Kylo Ren is a forward stab. This also happens to be the exact same first move Emperor Palpatine executes in Revenge of the Sith. It's also worth noting that these are the only two Force-sensitive individuals to use this form of attack. »

Broad City's Abbi Jacobson on Giving Back During the Holidays and That Infamous Blue Bandage Dress

Image Source: Courtesy of J.Crew In addition to being one half of the dynamic duo from Comedy Central's hit series Broad City, actress, writer, and illustrator Abbi Jacobson also has a heart of gold. The 33-year-old comedian, who got her start as a member of NYC's Upright Citizens Brigade Theater, is partnering with J.Crew and the nonprofit One Warm Coat to kick off their national coat drive. Abbi's goal is to encourage J.Crew shoppers to donate their gently used coats to help those in need this holiday season - and it's an initiative she has some experience with. I got the chance to chat with Abbi about her involvement with One Warm Coat and J.Crew's Give and Get Coat event, which aims to warm 1 million people in need with outerwear this year. And yes, we talked about Broad City, which is currently it its fourth season »

Prince Fans Weren't Exactly Thrilled by Jimmy Fallon's Thanksgiving Day Parade Tribute

Jimmy Fallon's questionable choice to cover Prince at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade left some of the Purple One's fans out in the cold on Thursday. Although the Tonight Show host bounced energetically through a version of "Let's Go Crazy" on the streets of NYC with some help from The Roots, the fact he attempted to cover the 1984 Prince and the Revolution song at all left a bad taste in the mouth of some Twitter users. Needless to say, more than a few were convinced the late icon was looking down on the parade performance with plenty of side-eye. The Roseanne Cast Reunites 20 Years Later For the First Photos From the Reboot

23 November 2017 6:45 AM, PST

Image Source: Everett Collection Our first good look at the Roseanne reboot is here, and our hearts are practically buckling under all of this nostalgia. Most of the cast of the beloved sitcom, which ran between 1988 to 1997, have returned to bring the Conner family back together again. ABC shared a photo of the first read-through, giving us an official glimpse at everyone who's back on board. Laurie Metcalfe (who played Roseanne's sister, Jackie), Roseanne Barr, Sara Gilbert (Darlene Conner), Michael Fishman (D.J. Conner), and Sarah Chalke (who appeared as Becky in the show's original run) all attended the table read. Although John Goodman's character, Conner patriarch Dan, died in the series finale, it looks like even he couldn't resist bringing the show into the 2000s (we'll just go ahead and assure they're ignoring that past plot point, à la the Will & Grace revival). #Roseanne is coming back »

All the Places You Can Watch Fixer Upper Right Now

23 November 2017 3:35 AM, PST

Hgtv announced in September that everyone's favorite home improvement show, Fixer Upper, is ending after the next season. Season five will be the last set of new episodes for Texas couple Chip and Joanna Gaines. Nooooo! Of course, it's understandable that the Gaines's might want a break. They recently revealed that they film the series 11 months out of the year, and it hasn't left a lot of time for family activities. Plus, their fame has led to several other expansive business opportunities, like their own home store, bakery, and real estate agency, so Chip and Joanna definitely have their hands full. But if you want to keep reliving the gorgeous renovation projects (and also the Gaines's adorable family life on their Texas farm), here are your options for watching previous seasons. Old episodes are rebroadcast all the time on Hgtv, including a marathon that is running all day on Nov. »

The Unconfirmed Call Me by Your Name Sequel Already Has a Setting

22 November 2017 4:15 PM, PST

Warning: ending spoilers for Call Me by Your Name below. If you've already immersed yourself in the idyllic romantic journey of Call Me by Your Name, there's one thing to say for certain: time is the enemy. The incredible story follows two young men, Elio (Timothée Chalamet) and Oliver (Armie Hammer), as they fall in love over the course of six short weeks during one magical Summer in Italy. Perhaps the most striking aspect of the film's ticking clock is that it clearly affects the characters, but it affects the audience as well. Speaking for myself, I never wanted the romance to end. Luckily, director Luca Guadagnino has already kind of, sort of begun planning a sequel. Just ahead of the film's release, I sat down with Guadagnino to discuss the beautiful world he'd created. When I asked if he'd considered what direction he might go into with the tentative sequel, »

How St. Vincent's New Album Captures a Planet - and a Person - in Crisis

22 November 2017 3:00 PM, PST

Image Source: W Hotels Worldwide I'm seated with four other individuals in a room at the W Hotel. Before us, resplendent in an oversize gold jacket with matching gold boots, is Annie Clark, better known in the music world as St. Vincent. She's talking about her fifth studio album, Masseduction, as she plays a handful of tracks on a nearby laptop computer. "It's about sex and power and sadness," she says, swiveling in her chair. Clark, 35, first entered the music world as St. Vincent a full decade ago. Marry Me dropped in 2007, establishing the artist as a sweet-singing siren with a wild and electric sound to back her up. When I first listened to St. Vincent, I introduced her to my friends as a "punk rock Disney princess." In my own mind, I envisioned her beguiling all the creatures in a mystical forest . . . before setting it on fire. "Are you feeling a jam? »

The Walking Dead: The Plausible (and Disgusting) Reason Father Gabriel Might Be Sick

22 November 2017 2:10 PM, PST

In typical Walking Dead fashion, the most recent episode saved almost all of the action for the last few minutes. In addition to a mysterious helicopter and a heartbreaking revelation about Negan, Father Gabriel appeared to fall gravely ill. Actor Seth Gilliam would only reveal to Popsugar that his character is "Uh . . . sick," rather than any concrete details, but a fan on Reddit seems to have uncovered an interesting (and disgusting) reason for why the ill-fated preacher might be suffering. If the show follows the comics, we know that Father Gabriel won't meet his demise until much later. That being said, it doesn't mean they won't thrust the character right up against the edge of death to pump up the drama in the meantime. Now, if you watched the last episode, "The Big Scary U," you got to see Gabriel and Negan escape the trailer surrounded by a thick horde »

26 Reasons Dean and Castiel Have Supernatural's Best Bromance

22 November 2017 12:46 PM, PST

Crazy to believe that we've been following Supernatural for over a decade now, right? Our unwavering love for the show (and the Winchester brothers) has remained steady, and now it's stronger than ever. Some things have changed for the better, though, including Castiel's introduction back in the beginning of the fourth season. No shade toward Sam, because Supernatural wouldn't be the same without him, but Cas and Dean are an absolute blessing. These two have a high-quality bromance we didn't even know we needed. No matter how often one of them goes, the other is sure to follow . . . even if it is to hell and back. »

You Definitely Missed Dr. K Foreshadowing This Major This Is Us Season 2 Plot Line

22 November 2017 11:46 AM, PST

Warning: spoilers for This Is Us ahead. Although it's clear to every This Is Us viewer why Randall Pearson (Sterling K. Brown) wants to adopt - or foster - a child after the wonderful life he was given by his own adoptive parents, this major season two plot line was actually subtly foreshadowed in season one by none other than the adorable Dr. K. In the show's 10th episode, "Last Christmas," the Pearson family has to spend Christmas Eve in the hospital while 9-year-old Kate gets her appendix out, which is where they also reconnect with a sick Dr. K. As you might recall, he's the man who delivers Kevin, Kate, and their late brother, Kyle, in the premiere. While Dr. K lies in his hospital bed awaiting surgery, young Randall offers the man a gift to say thank you for encouraging Jack to adopt him as a baby: a beautiful, »

Aw! Chris Pratt Pets a Tiny Dinosaur in New Jurassic World Footage

From our Jurassic family to yours. @FilmBayona @PrattPrattPratt @BryceDHoward @LeDoctor #Fallenkingdom pic.twitter.com/KiR3et9Vx1 - Colin Trevorrow (@colintrevorrow) November 22, 2017 It's been more than a couple years since Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard brought us back into the dinosaur kingdom with Jurassic World. Luckily (or unluckily, depending on how you look at it), we haven't seen the last of these gargantuan prehistoric creatures. Time is ticking down to the June 2018 release of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and this week, we finally got to see some footage of the sequel. Unfortunately, the clip - which was shared by director Colin Trevorrow on Twitter - is only six seconds long. But considering it shows Pratt melting while petting a tiny dinosaur, we will happily accept it. The real issue is not watching it 100+ times. »

Godless: Obsessed With Netflix's New Series? We Have Bad News

22 November 2017 11:05 AM, PST

Godless debuted Nov. 22 on Netflix as the streaming service's first foray into the Western genre - and if this one is any indication, the Netflix executives should now be looking for any Westerns they can get their hands on. Scott Frank's miniseries, starring Jeff Daniels, Michelle Dockery, Jack O'Connell, and Merritt Wever, is a beautifully shot story that plays out over seven episodes, fully taking advantage of not having to stuff all the plot into a feature-length film. Frank told Variety that he first wrote it as a film, but executive producer Steven Soderbergh (The Knick, The Girlfriend Experience) suggested that it might be better as a miniseries - and he was right. The seven-episode format really lets Frank establish the characters before moving them into confrontations with one another. The only question is, will we get more of Godless? Watching Godless on Netflix? Of Course You Recognize Whitey Winn

22 November 2017 10:35 AM, PST

Image Source: Netflix If you like Westerns, Netflix's new drama Godless is right up your alley. As you watch the gunslingers work to bring down the gang of outlaws terrorizing various townsfolk, one particular lawman might have caught your eye. The reason he looks so familiar? Because he previously starred on one of the biggest shows on TV. On Godless, we first meet Sheriff's Deputy Whitey Winn while he practices drawing his six-shooters in the mirror, pumping himself up with lines like, "You know why they call me Whitey Winn? 'Cause I always do." But the kid has some serious gun skills, which he puts on fine display one night when a pair of would-be troublemakers start shooting their mouths and their guns off. It's no green sight, but it's still pretty impressive. Image Source: HBO Wait, green sight? That's right. The actor who plays Winn, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, is none »

Godless: This Actor Is Almost Unrecognizable as the Villain

22 November 2017 10:25 AM, PST

Netflix released a new miniseries on Nov. 22 titled Godless, a Western hearkening back to the days of classics like The Searchers, Bad Day at Black Rock, and Shane. Like any good Western, it has a terrifying bad guy at its center. In the case of Godless, that man is Frank Griffin, an outlaw laying waste to the countryside as he tracks down his son-like partner who left Griffin's gang when he could no longer abide their brutal behavior. If Griffin looks familiar, that's because he definitely is - but Jeff Daniels is almost unrecognizable in the role. RelatedJeff Daniels Just Pulled Double Duty as 2 of His Most Famous Characters First of all, Daniels doesn't often sport such wild hair choices. But in Godless, it is 1884 and outlaws definitely did not have time to be well-groomed, what with all that killing and robbing and stuff. The shaggy hair and bushy beard are historically on point. »
