Sea Shepherd Unveils New Anti-Poaching Vessel

Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, the direct-action marine organization, unveiled its newest vessel, the M/V Sharpie, at a press conference, Monday, December 11th at 11:00 am at the 5th Street Marina in Miami, Fla.
The group’s founder, president, and CEO, Captain Paul Watson, greeted media, fans, and local residents who came to the unveiling ceremony on the bow of the ship. Speaking to the crowd, Watson announced that the vessel would be joining its sister ships the M/V Farley Mowat and the M/V John Paul DeJoria in the Sea of Cortez for Operation Milagro IV, a campaign to save the critically endangered vaquita porpoise. All three ships are 110 ft. Island-class patrol boats.

Faith was the first-ever recipient of the “Sheltering Hand Award”, given in recognition for her work with the Tennessee Baptist Children's Homes.
Hill built a bird house for an auction to benefit the W O Smith Music School, which provides music lessons to low-income families.
She and her husband, Tim McGraw, took truckloads of relief items down to the Gulf area after Hurricane Katrina. They also performed a charity tour, giving all the proceeds to the Neighbor’s Keeper Foundation, a group the couple formed to help victims the disaster.

Ford’s overwhelming passion is the environment. In 1991, he was introduced to Conservation International, one of the world’s leading environmental research groups, and was deeply impressed with the intellectual capacity of its directors. Founded in 1987, Conservation International provides a fund for scientists in 30 countries to identify and overcome biodiversity threats. It focuses its efforts on tropical wilderness areas, marine areas, and major wetlands, and since its inception has donated over $100 million to conservation partners around the world.
Ford joined the ranks of Conservation International as a board member, and soon became vice chairman. He became actively involved in the organization’s design and growth, and now sits on the Executive Committee.
“I was looking for a way to give back,” he explained to the Epoch Times. “What kept my support is their success and the inventiveness of their strategies.”

Elton John AIDS Foundation Announces World's First Social Impact Bond To Tackle HIV

Elton John AIDS Foundation is piloting the world’s first Social Impact Bond (Sib) designed to tackle HIV in London.
It offers an innovative approach to social and financial returns. The aim is to dramatically reduce HIV transmission in South East London by bringing additional investment to fund the commissioning of new evidence based interventions to address local health needs.
The new collaboration involves the creation of a Social Investment Partnership (based on the Sib model) which is supported by a National Lottery grant from the Big Lottery Fund. The partnership brings together all local stakeholders in the London Boroughs of Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham involved in the commissioning of the HIV care pathway (Local Authorities, CCGs, NHS England and Public Health England).

The daylong event was hosted by Craig T. Nelson. Nelson stated that he wanted to work with the Oic and Swing for Kids Golf Classic because he believes in what UCLA is doing, furthermore he believes that the Oic is helping any and all kids with Orthopaedic issues as they do not turn any away.

Milano is the lead ambassador for the Global Network for Neglected Tropical Disease Control. Her first action as ambassador was to donate $250,000 to the charity’s Drug Fund to be used to battle lymphatic filariasis (Lf) in Myanmar.
She says, “Words cannot fully express the devastation and horror caused by NTDs [Neglected Tropical Diseases]. Until now, these diseases have been hidden in the shadows, but working with the Global Network, I am focused on bringing this tragedy to the public eye.”
