Surprises highlight the Screen Actors Guild nominations

Moments ago, the Screen Actors Guild nominations for 2017 were announced, and boy did they contain some surprises. SAG hit on a fair number of the expected contenders, but they went in notably different directions as well, including a few huge snubs. Being the first of the Guilds to announce, that’s important. Their tastes will be what to watch. So, seeing Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri do so well is worth paying attention to, along with how Get Out was embraced. SAG is just one Guild, but they’ve now set the tone. It’s going to be fascinating to see where the race goes from here. “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” is the saga’s most unique entry yet

The force is strong with this one. Very strong, in fact. Rian Johnson has managed a delicate balance with Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Not only has he crafted a more than worthy sequel, he’s also differentiated himself with the most distinctive outing yet. This bodes very well for the next trilogy he’s begun developing. This week, the film opens across the globe and looks to be a massive hit. It could very well be as big as Star Wars: The Force Awakens was. At the very least, it should easily be 2017’s biggest movie. Luckily, it’s also one of the year’s very best. This film, for those somehow not in the know about it, is the next installment in the main portion of the iconic Star Wars Saga. It picks up right after Rey (Daisy Ridley) encounters Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), now living in exile. »

2017 Golden Globe nominations announced!

This morning, the nominations were announced for the 2017 Golden Globe awards. As always, it was a mix of Academy Award frontrunners and one offs that will see their only moment in the sun courtesy of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. The Globes are as much about perception as anything else in the awards season, so doing well here certainly doesn’t hurt. Nothing and no one was made or broken today, but the better you did, the more helpful that will be going forward. That’s just the name of the game with the Golden Globes. Mark another precursor off on your calendar folks. We’re speeding along to the guilds, which will really impact the race in a notable way.
