‘A Christmas Story Live’ Delivers Lump of Coal to Fox in Early TV Ratings

‘A Christmas Story Live’ Delivers Lump of Coal to Fox in Early TV Ratings
Bah humbug: Fox’s “A Christmas Story Live!” just got blindsided by NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” in early TV ratings. Oh, and every other broadcast TV show beat it as well. The latest live television musical managed a 2.8 overnight rating/5 share in the 56 metered-markets monitored by Nielsen. Compare that with NBC’s “Sunday Night Football,” which posted a massive 12.3/21 last night. To be fair, that latter live telecast had the Dallas Cowboys. Plus, football is still football and no one expected “A Christmas Story” to compete — it certainly could have done much better than it did, however. ABC’s “Sound of.

BBC Two announced Monday that it has commissioned a two-part documentary to tell the “definitive story” of disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein.

With a working title of “Weinstein,” the documentary will chronicle not just Weinstein’s career, but also will look at how since the 1930s the Hollywood system has enabled “the complex mix of money, power, exploitation and abuse” within the studio system. Ursula MacFarlane (“Charlie Hebdo: Three Days that Shook Paris”) will direct the documentary and it will be produced by two-time Oscar-winning producer Simon Chinn’s Lightbox company.

Amazon Passes on Pilots Starring Bridget Everett and Glenn Close
Amazon is batting 0-3 with its 2017 comedy pilots: The streamer has passed on its entire half-hour pilot slate, including Glenn Close’s Sea Oak, Bridget Everett’s Love You More and Diarra Kilpatrick’s The Climb.

As noted by Deadline, which first reported the news of the trio’s demise, the quasi-canecllations come just weeks after the male execs who greenlit them, Amazon Studios boss Roy Price and his No. 2, head of comedy and drama development Joe Lewis, left their posts in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal.

Amazon has yet to decide whether to renew rookie comedies One Mississippi and I Love Dick.

Hollywood has definitely seen better days, with all the sexual misconduct scandals that are current raging, something that has sort of muffled the sounds of a common theme in the history of the world of entertainment and fame. The list of entertainers and famous celebrities that died well before their time is definitely too long to recite, but names like Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, River Phoenix, and Michael Jackson come to mind. It seems that some of most talented of our celebrities are the most troubled. And while many people seek fame, very few are emotionally and psychologically equipped to

Ratings: Fox's Christmas Story Live Trails All Live Musicals Before It
The ratings for Fox’s A Christmas Story Live were more “lump of coal” than Red Ryder Carbine-Action 200-Shot Range Model Air Rifle.

Opening opposite the tail end of one of the biggest NFL games of the fall over on CBS, the three-hour broadcast averaged 4.5 million total viewers and a 1.5 demo rating, thereby placing last among all live TV musicals of the past four years — starting with NBC’s The Sound of Music Live (still the reigning champ with 18.6 mil/4.6) and including Fox’s own The Passion (which in March 2016 did 6.6 mil and a 1.6).
