Lee Hits Out At 'Ageist' Movie Bosses

29 June 2008 11:30 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Acting legend Christopher Lee has slammed movie bosses for cutting his scenes from new film Stone Of Destiny - branding them ageist and "spineless".

The Wicker Man star shot scenes for the forthcoming movie but was disappointed to learn that his role had been scrapped, after focus groups gave a negative response to seeing an elderly gentleman on screen.

And Lee, 86, has criticised the people in charge of the picture - insisting they should not discard veteran actors.

He says, "The American distributors looked at the film and decided they didn't want me in it. These people are guided by focus groups; their ideal film-goer is apparently 18 and has an aversion to old faces.

"But what struck me as depressing was that the director, Charles Martin Smith, and his team agreed to this request. This seemed to me spineless. You would think they would have more pride in their work."

20 June 2008 5:49 PM, PDT | From bloody-disgusting.com | See recent Bloody-Disgusting.com news

A few hours ago Variety posted an article on UK horror films and discovered a few details about Hammer Films' upcoming titles. They already announced that they'll be remaking the Swedish vampire film Let The Right One In, and have launched their online horror series via MySpace entitled Beyond The Rave, now they've got three new feature films in the works. Hammer Film Prods. is getting in on the act in the wake of the banner's revival last year by Dutch producer John De Mol by unveiling a slate of pics far removed from the bodice rippers of the 1960s and 1970s with which it made its name. The iconic studio is prepping three features that are a far cry from the theatrical dueling of Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing... The Wake, The Resident and The Quiet Ones.

Collins Offers Up Secrets From Scrapped Wicker Man Sequel

29 April 2008 6:58 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

The scrapped sequel to classic 1970s movie The Wicker Man was to star Joan Collins and Christopher Lee as evil cult leaders.

Collins reveals the production, which was due to start shooting in the Scottish Highlands this month, was to be directed by Robin Hardy, the man behind the original.

And she still hopes the film can go ahead. She tells Black Book magazine, "It's about two young people from America who are gospel singers. They go to a remote village in the Highlands to convert people to Christianity.

"They come in contact with an evil cult led by two people. One of them is Christopher Lee, and the other one is me."

Lee played the villain in the original film, which starred Edward Woodward.

The sequel was scrapped last month due to "financial difficulties".

Dante Refused To Let Knifing Ruin Rare Movie Screening

16 March 2008 3:44 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Gremlins director Joe Dante was so determined to finish a rare screening of Italian horror movie The Whip And The Body, he refused to move from his cinema seat when a member of the audience was stabbed.

Dante was watching director Mario Bava's cult 1963 film, which stars Christopher Lee, when a man was 'knifed'.

But the movie-loving future filmmaker stayed in his seat at the 'grindhouse' cinema in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania as police arrived.

He recalls, "There's a scene where Christopher Lee is beating Daliah Lavi with a whip on a beach at sunset. Somebody in the theatre got so excited that he stabbed the guy next to him.

"This was the only time this picture had played and, by God, I wasn't going to get up and leave. The police came... but I stuck around to see the end of the picture."
