We haven't reported on Franklyn yet but I figured, since I just stumbled upon a couple of yet unseen images from the film, I'd bend your ears (or eyes as the case may be) a little and discuss a flick I'm really looking forward to seeing more from. Franklyn is an upcoming dystopian mystery-drama that makes great use of that neo-noir style we love so much around here. It is also the first feature by director Gerald McMorrow who made a stellar looking scifi short called Thespian X, that I'm also dying to see. The film stars Ryan Phillippe, Ava Green, Bernard Hill and Sam Riley in four interweaving stories that take place in a alternate reality world where there is no division between church and state. Photo: Warner Home Video In conjunction with taking on the origins of the Earth I also recently traveled to the land of China via another BBC nature doc called "Wild China" narrated by King Theoden himself, Bernard Hill. "Wild China" was seen on the BBC in May and June of 2008 and here in the States on the Travel Channel in late July and early August. The DVD and Blu-ray hit store shelves on August 5 and is made up of six, hour-long, segments focused on not only the wildlife of China, but also the way it affects and interacts with human life. From the beautiful Himalayas to the Gobi desert this doc covers it all leaving no stone unturned and it is expertly edited together and never lacking in wonder. Steve Coogan is to play a gambling addict in a new comedy drama from The Royle Family's Craig Cash.
The three-part series - called Sunshine - will centre on Coogan's character Bing and his family. Cash and writing partner Phil Mealey have written the show and will appear in it along with Bernard Hill (Boys From The Black Stuff) and Lisa Millett (Blackpool).
