Does anyone out there watch The Librarian series with Noah Wylie on TNT? They're my guilty little pleasure.
The first Librarian TV movie appeared in 2004 and was called "Quest for the Spear". The second was in 2006 and was called "Return to King Solomon's Mine" and the final one (or so we thought) aired in 2008 and was called "Curse of the Judas Chalice". My favorite was the second one, but I always like sitting down to watch the others whenever they air.
The series stars Wyle as Flynn Carsen, a pretty square guy who's hired by the Metropolitan Library as a librarian. He soon learns that the library is actually in the habit of collecting and preserving historical and magical artifacts, including Excalibur and Pandora's Box (sort of like a more kid-friendly Indiana Jones). Some other big names star, including Olympia Dukakis as Flynn's mother, and Jane Curtin and Bob Newhart as Library employees. »

Harvey Levin, the attorney who founded the tabloid website TMZ, has indicated that he plans to take action against the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office for obtaining his personal telephone records in their investigation of TMZ's story of Mel Gibson's anti-Semitic tirade after he was arrested on drunk driving in 2006. Speaking to the Radio and Television News Association of Southern California at UCLA Monday, Levin called the sheriff's action "a brutal assault on freedom of the press." The TMZ report, he told the group, demonstrated that the arresting deputy, James Mee, had been ordered to rewrite his original arrest report, removing all mention of Gibson's remarks. That demand, said Levin, "was indefensible. It was corrupt." But even more ominous, he suggested, was the sheriff's attempt to discover the source of TMZ's information by obtaining his phone records. "It breaks federal law. It breaks state law," he declared, indicating that he has reason to believe that he is not the only journalist whose phone records have been obtained by the sheriff's department. "We have met with lawyers and we are charting our course of action," Levin said. "I can only imagine the Pandora's Box that will open up." »

Okay, am I the only one who thinks the biggest enemy we face now isn't the Taliban, or Al Qaeda, but bad taste? Just when it looks like we've heard enough about Roman Polanski's capers, and after we finally laid Michael Jackson to rest, David Letterman has to go and open his own peculiar Pandora's box by revealing affairs with staffers, and an attempt at extortion, both before a live audience. We must really love reality, in this country, because we can't seem to get enough reality TV. Either that, or we have some celebrity whose water is about to break pouring his heart out about transgressions that, frankly, we could have done just fine without hearing about. In this, what someday may be known as the "too much information" age, we know which stars are wearing underwear, which senators are... »

(S02E01) Look, I'm just going to say it up front and get it out of the way: Nathan Fillion is the most charming man on television. All I could think of when I was watching the season premiere was, "wow." Also, how could Beckett resist him? Sure, he went against her express wishes and reopened her mother's case, which brings with it the distinct possibility of opening a Pandora's box of despair and obsession that could ruin her life and career -- but has she seen him smile? Come on.
Ordinarily, I have very little patience for obviously inconsequential tension like we have in this episode with Beckett refusing to partner up with Castle. It's the season premiere -- obviously, she's going to take him back; it's kind of the premise of the show. However, they manage to conclude the storyline in such a way that it doesn't overshadow the rest of the episode, »

It's the last Thursday episode of Big Brother 11 (but don't cry, CBS just renewed Big Brother for a 12th season next summer). Usually at this point we all know what's going to happen, but this season executive producer Allison Grodner is being sketchy on the details.
Will there be a live competition and eviction tonight? Will Pandora's Box show up? And how, exactly, will Big Brother address the fact that the jury will only have six members? Either we're in for a huge twist or Grodner and her fellow producers have no idea what they're doing. »

Turner Classic Movies is honoring New York's Fashion Week with a list of the films it has deemed the most sartorially influential of all time. First, a look at their Top 15 (in chronological order): Pandora's Box (1929) Letty Lynton (1932) It Happened One Night (1934) Pat and Mike (1952) Rear Window (1954) Rebel Without a Cause (1955) And God Created Woman (1956) Auntie Mame (1958) Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961) Bonnie and Clyde (1967) The Thomas Crown Affair (1968) Shaft (1971) Annie Hall (1977) Saturday Night Fever (1977) Flashdance (1983) Most notable is the '50s- and '60s-heavy lineup -- which perhaps makes some sense, as films were likely the dominant way style was passed from Hollywood to the masses (as opposed to the TV, Us Weekly and internet of today). And there's no arguing with the likes of Breakfast at Tiffany's (which I would deem the most fashionable movie of all time), Bonnie and Clyde, Shaft, Annie Hall, Saturday Night Fever, and Flashdance. »

Big Brother is a game built on manipulation, lies and subterfuge -- a skill-set that newly-crowned Hoh Natalie easily took to a whole new level on Sunday's episode. In the real world, if you're a liar by nature, you better have a good memory. But in a world where relationships last only sixty days and the end-goal is to throw even your best friend under a high-speed bus, moxie and manipulation trumps memory every time. At the end of the day, Natalie could safely say, "I am playing this house like a fiddle!" After limping through the first half of the game, Natalie has finally been exposed as Nata-lies. She took the last Hoh crown and the rest of the house -- Kevin, Jordan and Michele -- did their best to fake enthusiasm. But then again, if they were better actors, then they wouldn't be on Big Brother in the first place. »

To be a successful poker player, you need to be able to bluff and have your opponent believe you. By that definition, Natalie is the worst poker player in the history of the world, and I have no doubt that I would be able to beat her any day of the week.
The latest episode of Big Brother 11 crystallized exactly how awful Natalie is, and represented everything I hate about her as both a player on Big Brother and as a person in general. The ultimate revelation came when Natalie opened Pandora's Box to spend 20 minutes with her boyfriend (now fiance, and I'll save how unlucky that guy is for another time). »

The final "Power of Veto" competition was held, and Kevin won it. Kevin will definitely take himself off the block at the veto ceremony tomorrow or Monday, and when he does, Jordan will go up in his place next to Michele. The current plan between Kevin and Natalie, is to evict Michele out of the house. Natalie was relieved that Kevin won Pov, especially since she took herself out of being able to help him play for the Pov because she opened Pandora's box. »

After making the biggest move in the Big Brother 11 house a few weeks ago and then turning on his own alliance, Jeff was backstabbed by his new backstabbing alliance, and exited the house. That makes way for the home stretch of Big Brother 11: Next week we have an eviction on Tuesday, and then the start of the final Hoh competition. In addition, Julie Chen said that new Hoh Natalie will find "another temptation"... keep reading » » read the full story and comment, or find the latest news about Big Brother 11

The sigh heard around the Big Brother Universe…Jeff got duped and was sent packing last night. Personally, I have no agenda as to who goes each week, but I'm not going to lie…I've had so many people come up to me this summer wanting to talk about Jeff. Folks love The Underdog and let's face it…he was targeted week one (despite the fact he was on the winning clique!) and managed to make it to the Final Five. I'm sorry to see him go, though. After today, it's just going to be "Unintentionally Funny Comments from Jordan"…although Michele, Natalie, and Kevin had some zingers this week as well (granted, they have all season, but Jeff and Jordan's random interactions were just priceless. Those to come at the end of this blog!). Michele on the Buddha statue in the house: "I don't need Buddha's power…I have my own power. »

In this hit or miss season of Big Brother, last night's episode was definitely a hit, thanks to the mystery room in the Hoh room. When Kevin saw the door with the question mark on it, he screeched and said of the door, "Oh my god, I'm so scared." Scary door! That "Pandora's box" had the potential to be good or bad for the whole house, and Kevin went for it, sticking his hand into... keep reading » » read the full story and comment, or find the latest news about Big Brother 11

In most cases familiarity breeds contempt, but after 55 days and with just five house guests remaining in the Bb House, it just breeds crazy. Michele went from weeping to leaping with joy as Jeff and Jordan's worst nightmare came true when they found themselves facing each other on the eviction block. Add to that the fact that Hoh Kevin got his greedy paw locked in a box while the rest of the house scampered about the yard collecting cash that rained down from the sky and what you have is just another day in the Bb house. After winning Hoh, Kevin has kicked his game into high gear. The graphic designer has played a smart, patient and under-the-radar strategy. Somehow, despite being aligned with some of this season's most volatile characters, Kevin has never upset the Bb apple cart. In fact, Kevin's genius lies in the fact that he's avoided it at every turn. »

To fully appreciate "Inglourious Basterds," an extensive knowledge of world cinema helps. Here are some key references:
* Leni Riefenstahl: Often referred to as "Hitler's favorite filmmaker," Riefenstahl directed the propaganda masterpiece "Triumph of the Will." She is discussed outside Shosanna's cinema, which is playing a revival of "The White Hell of Pitz Palu" in which Riefenstahl appears as an actress. Arrested for war crimes, she was acquitted and continued to deny knowledge of the Holocaust until her death in 2003 at age 101.
* G.W. Pabst: The Austrian co-director of "Pitz Palu, »

Have you heard the news that Warner Bros has opened up their vaults? Seems at least one of the major studios has realized that those who truly love the cinema love the entire history of it. They'd like to see more of that history.
Norma Shearer and Robert Montgomery live Private Lives but they
still want to show off their brand new DVD collections!
There's a reason that some former mega stars (Norma Shearer is a good example) fade in the public consciousness quicker than others. Actually there are many reasons: changing tastes, mediocre filmographies, undramatic personal lives -- especially if they don't end tragically, pop culture's rapid "who's next?" star meat grinder, lack of gay appeal (think about it: fascinating the gays insures a long shelf life for entertainers. I don't think I need to cite examples... they've probably popped into your head just reading that sentence). But I'm »
