While sharp writing and clever story structure are often the hallmarks of good comedy, one can’t overlook the impact of a fantastic comic performance. Is Caddyshack remembered for its plot? No, it’s become beloved because of the standout comic acting of Bill Murray, Chevy Chase, Rodney Dangerfield and Ted Knight. Same goes for The Honeymooners or Married With Children, both standard family scenarios elevated by standout performances from Jackie Gleason and Ed O’Neill, respectively. Not to elevate it to the same status as these classics, but this is what I thought of when watching Atom's new White Gorilla series.
White Gorilla is an original web series executive produced by comedy vet Jim Biederman (The Whitest Kids U Know, Michael & Michael Have Issues) and Chris Gillen . It all begins when normal average everyman Steve (Trevor Dellecave) receives a mysterious wooden crate from Africa that contains a talking White

Danielle Harris, star of four films in the Halloween franchise, as well as pictures like The Last Boyscout, City Slickers, Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead, and the television series Roseanne was kind enough to sit down with me at the 2009 Spooky Empire convention in Orlando, Florida to talk about her career. The interview was filmed live, but due to surrounding noise I have transcribed the conversation below.
Ja/Fangoria: First of all, can I say how nervous I am that we are making a film with John Landis sitting right over there?
Danielle Harris: (laughs)
Ja: We're here at the Spooky Empire convention in Orlando, Florida, and how has it been going for you so far?
Dh: It's been good! It's been really busy.
Ja: Have you met any creeps so far?
Dh: Not really at this show, only a handful. (laughs)
Ja: You actually lived here in Florida,

[DVD Review] TV Sets: Forever Funny

TV Sets: Forever Funny fetches a brilliant collection of shows to tickle the funny bone as a sampling of the comedic programs CBS has put out over time. Any collection that features Taxi, Cheers, The Odd Couple and Frasier is doing something right of the comedy front – but that’s only half the issue. Along with choosing the funniest shows possible, the funniest episodes of the series ought be selected as well. Instead, in an obvious attempt to encourage folks to start at the beginning, CBS has chosen the pilot episodes of each series. Once again, like in the TV Sets: Action Packed DVD, pilots are great for hooking an audience when the show is brand new – but these are classic shows that your average television viewer has seen at least a few episodes of.
There are two things more puzzling than the steadfast notion that the pilot episodes were

DVD Playhouse—May 2009
By
Allen Gardner
Paramount Centennial Collection Paramount Studios releases two more classic titles from its library on special edition DVD: The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance is John Ford’s last masterpiece (although he would go on to direct two more very good films) from 1962: about an Eastern lawyer (James Stewart) who travels west only to find primal brutality in the form of sadistic bandit Liberty Valance (Lee Marvin, great as always) and pragmatic brutality in local rancher Tom Doniphon (John Wayne), each two sides of a coin that represent a way of life slowly dying out as Stewart’s modern brand of civilization tames the West. A perfect film, period. Howard Hawks’ El Dorado is essentially a remake of his earlier classic Rio Bravo, with John Wayne, Robert Mitchum and a young James Caan as lawmen joining forces against corrupt cattle barons. Great fun. Two disc sets.
