Inception to be one of the big films for 2010

18 hours ago | Monsters and Critics | See recent Monsters and Critics news »

Along with Iron Man 2, Tron: Legacy and Alice In Wonderland, Inception is one of the films for 2010, which has been creating buzz among the film industry. Critics have described the minute-long trailer alone as 'fantastic'. Directed by Christopher Nolan, the man behind The Dark Knight and Memento, it features a strong line-up of stars including Leonardo DiCaprio, Sir Michael Caine, Marion Cotillard and Tom Hardy. Inception has a lot to prove, though, having been dubbed The Matrix for a new generation. With a budget reported to be around the £120 million mark, the sci-fi thriller features top-notch visuals and effects, has a complex plot set within the workings of the mind – the tag »

Mia Wasikowska felt "isolated" on 'Alice'

20 hours ago | digitalspy | See recent digitalspy news »

Mia Wasikowska has admitted that filming Alice In Wonderland was an "isolating" experience. Speaking to the Los Angeles Times, the 20-year-old Australian explained that she found it difficult to act on greenscreen sets. "I was basically planted in this sea of green," she said. "I really had to use my imagination." Tim Burton's adaptation of Lewis Carroll's fantasy story, which casts Wasikowska in the title role, sees Alice return to Wonderland 12 years after her first visit. "She's (more) »

'Prince of Persia' Featurette: 'The Sands of Time'

27 December 2009 9:13 PM, PST | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

Jerry Bruckheimer's latest major push will be or is already Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. It'll be out on Memorial Day weekend, but once upon a time it was supposed to be released in June of this year, the week before Transformers, in fact. The upcoming Tooth Fairy was also a June 19th film at one time, if you can believe it.

The extra time Bruckheimer and Disney gave Persia allows for things like this, the second in what promises to be a long line of featurettes related to the video game adaptation. There doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason to them so far, like Watchmen's once-a-month video journals, but it is keeping the name out there a little bit before the studio really starts pushing it, which should be sometime between Alice in Wonderland and the summer kick-off.

The latest featurette explains, through Bruckheimer, »

New Alice in Wonderland Creature Images

27 December 2009 4:44 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Disney has released a new batch of character stills for director Tim Burton's latest movie, Alice in Wonderland. Based on the books by Lewis Carroll, Burton's Alice tells the story of adult Alice's (played by Mia Wasikowska) return to Wonderland and her quest to dethrone the wicked Red Queen ( Helena Bonham Carter).

Previous images and posters have focused mainly on the human and human-looking characters of Alice, the Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp) and the Red Queen, but these new images put the spotlight on some of the bizarre creatures that populate the whimsical Wonderland landscape. In addition to a clearer image of the Caterpillar previously seen on the movie's official Facebook page, the new stills include the White Rabbit, March Hare, Doormouse, and Cheshire Cat.

1 Pop Ellie Goulding Ellie Goulding's success in 2010 may be preordained by industry insiders, but don't hold that against her. "I'm a country girl – I couldn't be less sceney if I tried," she laughs. New Character Art for 'Alice in Wonderland'

24 December 2009 6:15 PM, PST | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

We're less than three months away from Alice in Wonderland, and while it's been almost 50 years since the Disney cartoon, the wait may have been worth it for the resources to catch up to Tim Burton's creativity. Here's a new bit of Alice art (thanks to JoBlo) that showcases Burton's imagination and how it meshes with Lewis Carroll's original tale.

Hey, enlarge it

It's the next movie planned for IMAX (following Avatar) and in fact it's lined up to be the first major heavyweight of 2010, the kind of movie that might still be on the box office list a year from now, in part because it won't need the IMAX money because it will have such a broad appeal to young and old, or at least older.

Expect Disney to ram it down our throats between now and early March and then expect it to pay off. Here »

Merry Christmahaunakwanzikah Eve, everyone!

In the spirit of giving, Disney has released some new pictures of characters from Tim Burton’s upcoming adaptation/sequel to Alice In Wonderland.

So far we’ve gotten looks at major characters like The Red & White Queens and The Mad Hatter – but what about our other crazy friends? Well, wait no longer because we have quality pictures of quite a few familiar characters from the world of Wonderland.

The March Hare, the Dormouse, the Cheshire Cat, The White Rabbit and The Caterpillar – they’re all here, and they’ve all got some famous voices bringing them to life.

The Caterpillar is voiced by Alan Rickman, The White Rabbit by Michael Sheen, The Cheshire Cat by Stephen Fry, The March Hare by Paul Whitehouse (The Corpse Bride) and  the Dormouse is voiced by Barbara Windsor.

What are the best music videos of the noughties?

24 December 2009 3:07 AM, PST | The Guardian - TV News | See recent The Guardian - TV News news »

Let us know your favourite pop promos of the decade

What makes a great pop video? Explosive action? Mind-bending animation? Bling? Bottles of Cristal? Being ripped off in the latest TV advert? One viewer's masterpiece is another's dross, and they will never agree.

And there are simply more videos now than there used to be. In the 70s and 80s, quality videos stood out because there wasn't much else around – Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody, Jacko's Thriller and Peter Gabriel's Sledgehammer were events. Now videos cram every corner of YouTube, blogs and TV channels from Viva to MTV.

In the noughties, having a director for your video wasn't enough – they had to be a big name. Hype Williams was one of the busiest, shooting videos such as Kanye West's Gold Digger and Stronger, Beyoncé's Check on It and Coldplay's Viva La Vida. Other directors such as Mark Romanek »

New Persia featurette

While everyone has been (rightly) drooling over Disney's Tron: Legacy and Alice In Wonderland, let's not forget that in 2010 the Mouse House will also be releasing Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time. In this new behind-the-scenes featurette on the film, producer Jerry Bruckheimer, star Jake Gyllenhaal and director Mike Newell all attempt to explain exactly what the Sands of Time are and what it does, etc. As Jake (as Dastan) notes, "Releasing the sand, sands back time!" Come And Join The Tea Party: A New Alice In Wonderland Banner

23 December 2009 3:50 PM, PST | FilmShaft.com | See recent FilmShaft.com news »

What will Disney’s biggest release be for 2010? While it’s anyone’s game at the moment, I think it’d be a safe bet to put your money on Alice in Wonderland, Tim Burton’s deliciously gothic sequel to the original story. Starring Johnny Depp, Mia Wasikowska, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway, Crispin Glover, Matt Lucas, Alan Rickman, Stephen Fry and Michael Sheen, the film is certainly not short of star quality, and judging by the two latest trailers (here and here) it’s going to be one hell of an experience!

This leads me perfectly to today’s addition of a new Alice in Wonderland poster/banner. Featuring all of the central cast in what seems to be one of the Mad Hatter’s tea parties, it’s yet another wonderful look at the world Burton has created, check it out below:

This Week in Trailers - 'Iron Man 2,' 'Robin Hood,' 'Clash of the Titans'

20 December 2009 1:18 PM, PST | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

This could have been the best week of the year for trailers, something to keep in mind when next December rolls around. From Iron Man 2 to Robin Hood to Clash of the Titans, we saw more than our share of blockbusters unveiled in the past seven days.

But wait...there's more. We finally got to see some footage of Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning as The Runaways, and Hot Tub Time Machine looks as stupid as it sounds, and that's a compliment.

Wow, Iron Man 2 looks good

...And so does Robin Hood

...And actually, for the most part, the same goes for Clash of the Titans

The Runaways gives us about 50 seconds of 70s girl rock

Writers talk 'Alice In Wonderland'

20 December 2009 4:25 AM, PST | digitalspy | See recent digitalspy news »

Writers Leah Moore and John Reppion have revealed how they tackled Lewis Carroll's classic tale in The Complete Alice In Wonderland. The pair said that their aim was to represent the famous characters through dialogue "as completely as we can" while allowing series artist Erica Awano to have more creative freedom with her designs. Moore told Newsarama: "Some of the characters have a really distinct way of speaking (the Gryphon for example) and we have always tried to keep in any characterisation there. Zenoscope "Returns To Wonderland"

19 December 2009 2:36 PM, PST | SneakPeek | See recent SneakPeek news »

The developing motion picture "Return To Wonderland" adapts Zenoscope Publishing's 2007 "Alice In Wonderland" graphic novels, spinning-off from their popular horror comic book series "Grimm Fairy Tales".

Based on author Lewis Carroll's public domain satires "Alice In Wonderland" and "Through The Looking Glass", the comic book "Return" is written by Raven Gregory, following adult 'Alice Liddle', living in a disturbed, perpetual dream state with her teenage daughter 'Calie', an alcoholic, party girl.

Zenoscope's "Grimm Fairy Tales" debuted June 2005, offering classic fairy tales, with modern twists and expanded plots.

Each issue has a main story revolving around sexy 'Sela', who has the ability to show people the 'error of their ways' through fairy tales, ultimately dispensing her own style of 'justice', while nemesis 'Belinda' has similar but more 'evil' powers.

Zenoscope recently optioned their comic book character "The Piper" based on another one of their "Grimm Fairy Tales" spin-offs. »

I'm not a big science fiction fan, so it's no surprise that I rarely watch the Syfy channel, but when the network aired an ingenious retelling of my favorite childhood story Alice in Wonderland, I had to tune in.
