Jeanette MacDonald is a Princess romanced by tailor Maurice Chevalier in Love Me Tonight (1927), a playful and sexy operetta directed by Rouben Mamoulian. William Wyler directs Margaret Sullivan and Herbert Marshall in The Good Fairy (1935), written by Preston Sturges. Lucille Ball is a showgirl who goes undercover in the low-budget period thriller Lured (1947), directed by Douglas Sirk and co-starring George Sanders, Charles Coburn, and Boris Karloff. Ava Gardner plays muse to James Mason in Pandora and the Flying Dutchman (1951), directed by Albert Lewin.
