Gerard Oury plots to get his wife, Jeanne Moreau, to drop her lover
29 January 2014 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

"Le dos au mur" is a very fine film noir in the classic style, beautifully lensed, flawlessly acted, and staged with meticulous sets. The story, while having few main characters, has plenty of twists and suspense.

The story begins suspensefully with Oury carrying a dead man to his car and thence to his factory where he covers him with concrete in a new wall. The story then proceeds as a flashback with his occasional narration.

Industrialist Oury discovers that his beautiful wife, Jeanne Moreau, is having an affair with a young actor. He concocts a plan such that she will eventually think the actor is betraying her and drop him. Needless to say, there are complications.

Definitely recommended.
