Trivia

The credit on the U.S. version of the film, "Battle Beyond the Sun", was given to 'Thomas Colchart', a pseudonym for then aspiring filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola. Roger Corman gave him the task of creating two monsters resembling genitalia (one male, one female) which were amusingly spliced into the film. See more »

Goofs

Near the end, when the North and South Hemis astronauts are launching from the asteroid that orbits Mars to return to Earth, you can clearly see the railings of a launch pad. There were no launch pads on the asteroid. See more »

Roger Corman's Bastardization of the Russian film: Nebo Zovyot
21 September 2014 | by (Canada) – See all my reviews

This rather sophisticated looking Russian science fiction adventure from 1959 tells the story of two competing nations comprised of the Northern and Southern hemispheres, each attempting to land manned spacecraft on Mars in preparation for colonization. Roger Corman acquired the distribution rights and immediately began it's transformation into an American style B movie by dubbing, editing and hiring Francis 'The Godfather' Ford Coppola to film a fight between two monsters to cut into the film. One of the monsters resembles a penis, the other; a vagina. Neither version is revered as a classic today but either cut is fine on a sleepy afternoon if you're in the mood for some retro sci fi fun.
