Former gangsters Ventura and Constantin find that reasoning with Tommy Duggan doesn't work
9 January 2015 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

"Ne nous fachons pas" is a good and enjoyable comedy-crime movie, mostly firing on all cylinders. It looks good in color and widescreen, moves along nicely, has a goodly number of comic situations and lines, and features the comic talent side of Lino Ventura.

Ventura and Michel Constantin play ex-gangsters who now conduct businesses, a boat business and a restaurant, respectively. Visited by some old associates on the lam, Ventura takes on a debt collection task. He has to collect from deadbeat bookie, Jean Lefebvre. He plays an annoying comic character with a peculiar sense of values. Ventura and Constantin find themselves on the wrong side of the violent intentions of gangster Tommy Duggan, who uses a dozen young British lookalike thugs to do his violence. Ventura persuades Constantin that reasoning with Duggan will prevail. Fat chance. When Duggan persistently attacks them, they respond with a bombing campaign of their own. Along the way, Mireille Darc, Lefebvre's estranged wife, brightens up the show.

Ventura and Constantin appeared together before in "The Wise Guys" and afterward in "Le Deuxieme Soufflé".
