Since the beliefs that parents want to instill in their children can vary greatly, we ask that instead of adding your personal opinions about what is right or wrong in a film, that you instead use this feature to help parents make informed viewing decisions by describing the facts of relevant scenes in the title for each one of the different categories: Sex and Nudity, Violence and Gore, Profanity, Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking, and Frightening/Intense Scenes.

Sex & Nudity

None

Violence & Gore

There is a short scene in the beginning where apes kill their prey and another scene where they kill another ape. Nothing explicit. A few references to humans being killed, though not shown nor described graphically.

Profanity

Very mild language presented. Words shown are a few 'hells' and 'damns'. Said quickly and casually in conversation.

None.

There is some intensity where HAL, a robot, kills 3 hibernating stronauts by cutting off their life supports. We also see an astronaut floating in space, supposedly after being hit by a pod. There is also some tense scenes involving the robot denying one astronaut entrance into a ship, and leaving him to die.

An astronaut travels into a star gate/portal into another dimension. The following colorful visuals accompanied by a haunting music arrangement may be quite disturbing for some viewers.

Even though Its Rated G, some of the music is quite frightening and haunting in some scenes.

Like all of Stanley Kubrick's work, the films plot is very mature and thought provoking. Younger viewers will not understand the complexity of 2001: A Space Odyssey.
