Best of Jesus Lizard catalog gets deluxe-reissue treatment
In certain shadowy circles of the rock ’n’ roll universe, The Jesus Lizard are The Beatles. And despite the fact that All Music Guide’s entry on the former begins, “Willfully abrasive and atonal...” and that the latter wrote scores of catchy ditties that are etched into our collective psyche, the bands have more in common than one might imagine, especially in terms of influence. Of course, this wasn’t always so. “It’s pretty weird that there are no bands like The Jesus Lizard around anymore,” Pitchfork’s Brent Dicrescenzo began his review of rarities/singles collection, Bang, in 2000. “...The absence of cacophonous, piss-drinking, steel-chewing rock sums up the current climate. Young musicians seem hesitant to frighten and discomfort.” He has a point. Or did, at least, at the time. »

A couple of good interviews now for the fans of The Twilight Saga: New Moon. In the first one, actress Kristen Stewart talks to Interview Magazine about her role in the colossal series, and about how her new found fame has changed her outlook on life.
The interview was conducted by actor/director/legend Dennis Hopper, check out the good stuff below:
Stewart: The sad thing is that I feel so boring because Twilight is literally how every conversation I have these days begins—whether it’s someone I’m meeting for the first time or someone I just haven’t seen in a while. The first thing I want to say to them is, “It’s insane! And, as a person, I can’t do anything!” But then I think to myself, God damn it, shut the fuck up.
Hopper: [both laugh] You know, you’re giving really wonderful performances. Since »

As if Toronto wasn’t spoiled enough by its annual international film festival, The Bloor Cinema (596 Bloor Street) will be showing a series of diverse genre flicks over the course of six weeks programmed by Shaun Of The Dead director Edgar Wright, who’s in town shooting his new film Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World. Wright has chosen some of his favorites for single and double features starting this Saturday, February 28, and continuing every weekend until Sunday, April 12, in a program entitled The Wright Stuff.
The features include a gory Asian cult classic, a Jackie Chan kung fu extravaganza, three off-kilter musicals and one of the best from Canadian fright master David Cronenberg, along with Wrights two previous comedy features, Shaun and Hot Fuzz, and his cult fave TV series Spaced (all starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost); the director will appear in person to do Q&As on two of the evenings. »

Another classic television series, V, is set to come to us re-envisioned and hopefully will be another nice dark hit like some other re-imagined series we all know and that I’m trying to resist mentioning.
Another Remake On The Horizon:
Do you remember V? No, not V for Vendetta. V the television series.
Well, in case you thought your fuzzy distant memories were nothing but that, think again gang. Back in October of ‘08 ABC gave the green light to a remake (yes, yet one more remake) of the old show. What? You don’t remember V? That’s fine. Nothing to be ashamed of.
V was about rodent-eating lizard aliens that showed up on Earth and though they said one thing, they had their eyes set on our planet’s water. It starred Marc Singer, Faye Grant, Jane Balder, Michael Ironside, Robert Englund & Lane Smith, to name a few. »
