Alternate versions for
Beyond the Valley of the Dolls (1970)

  • The British Board of Film Classification have cut the UK video release by 53 seconds. New opening credits were required for this release, as the BBFC would not allow a montage shot of a gun being pushed into the mouth of a sleeping woman, a scene that also reappears in full at the end of the movie (and was also cut). Ironically, the film has been broadcast uncut several times on UK network TV, by Channel 4.

  • In Australia, the film was refused a certificate in 1970. However, in 1981 it was issued on a very early home video release on the 20th Century Fox Magnetic label, at a time when classification issues were of little concern to the emerging home video market. The film was formally resubmitted to the Classification Board in 1989, who re-affirmed the ban. An appeal saw the film's ban lifted and an R18+ rating issued. This version was released on the CBS/Fox home video label. This home video version's opening credits, and the climax featuring Z-Man shooting a woman in her bed, were re-edited. Thus, this version was not uncut. However, the DVD version issued by 20th Century Fox Australia, in October 2003, is complete and uncut.

  • All the UK cuts were finally waived by the BBFC for the 2003 DVD release.
