Centuries-old vampire Barnabas Collins [Jonathan Frid] is awakened from the family crypt at Collinwood Estate. Dr Julia Hoffman [Grayson Hall] falls in love with Barnabas, but while she searches for a cure for Barnabas's "vampiric blood condition" (she discovers an extra cell in his blood and devises a series of injections that supposedly will cure him), Barnabas pursues Maggie Evans [Kathryn Leigh Scott], lookalike to his previous fiancée Josette Dupres. When Julia is spurned by Barnabas, she changes his injection, causing him to age into an old man. Barnabas drinks Maggie's blood (killing her) to become younger, but in the end is staked by his own assistant, Willie Loomis [John Karlen].
