Mumbai, Dec 13 (Ians) It was a dream come true for actor Anupam Kher to have met “Fiddler On The Roof” legend Topol recently.
There were two international cine-persons that Anupam Kher wanted to meet or work with.

Jewison Lands Lifetime Achievement Award

In The Heat Of The Night director Norman Jewison is to be honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award by The Directors Guild of America (DGA).
The Canadian moviemaker's 1967 drama starring Sidney Poitier scored five Academy Awards, and he went on to land another three Oscars for 1971's Fiddler on the Roof.
Jewison will now follow in the footsteps of legendary directors including Frank Capra and Alfred Hitchcock when he is awarded the DGA's highest honour in January.
DGA President Taylor Hackford says in a statement, "He is an incredible filmmaker whose calm, affable manner belies a ferocious creative fire within. Norman well deserves to stand among the giants of cinema whom we have honored in the past."
Jewison's last big screen offering came in 2003 with The Statement, starring Sir Michael Caine.

Norman Jewison, the Oscar-nominated director of In the Heat of the Night, Fiddler on the Roof, and Moonstruck will add another line to his resume on Jan. 30, when the Directors Guild of America gives him its lifetime achievement award. It's a fairly exclusive honor, too -- the DGA has been around for 73 years but only gives lifetime achievement awards occasionally. Jewison is the 33rd recipient; the last one was Clint Eastwood, in 2006.
Jewison, an 83-year-old Toronto native, is a somewhat unusual choice for the DGA in that he hasn't been active lately. The most recent recipients -- Eastwood, Mike Nichols, Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, Francis Ford Coppola -- had all been working pretty regularly at the time of their awards, but Jewison has only made three theatrical features in the last 15 years: Bogus (1996), The Hurricane (1999), and The Statement (2003).

Broadway icon Harvey Fierstein has stepped in to star in the musical tour of Fiddler On The Roof - after actor Chaim Topol bowed out due to a shoulder injury.
The four-time Tony winner will play lead character Tevye on the North American tour of the show, reprising a role he first played on Broadway in 2005.
Topol kicked off the production in August but was forced to step down to recuperate from a shoulder injury that required emergency long-term treatment, according to Variety.
Fierstein's start date had not yet been determined as WENN went to press.

Lea Michele was born Lea Michele Sarfati on August 29, 1986, in Bronx, New York, and was raised in Tenafly, New Jersey. A true Broadway baby, it's only appropriate that she's found major stardom as Rachel Berry on Glee (TV), which relies on Michele's killer pipes as she performs Broadway show tunes, current pop hits, and classic oldies. Michele, an only child whose mother left behind a nursing job to support her daughter's burgeoning career, started acting professionally at the ripe old age of 8. That's when she made her Broadway debut, playing Young Cosette in Les Miserables. She went on to appear in such other plays as Ragtime, Fiddler on the Roof, The Diary of Anne Frank, and, perhaps most notably, the groundbreaking original production of Spring Awakening. She was 14 when she participated in workshop versions of the Duncan Sheik musical and stayed with the show through its triumphant off-Broadway and Broadway runs.

One of the most popular events at The Way off Broadway Dinner Theatre and Children's Theatre is its annual Breakfast with Santa (and Mrs. Claus). Each year, children and their families get to spend a festive morning with Mrs. Claus and the elves waiting for Santa's arrival. This year, the theatre has three scheduled breakfasts: Saturday, December 19th; Sunday, December 20th; and Thursday, December 23rd.
The doors will open at 8:00 a.m. on December 19th and 20th and 9:00 a.m. on December 23rd. All tickets are $16.00 per person. First started in 2002, this has become an event families look forward to every year for the holidays.

Victoria Theatre Association is holding Live auditions November 17 from 4-7:30pm for the opportunity to sing on the Victoria Theatre stage with five Broadway stars in the Miami Valley and Good Samaritan Hospitals Broadway Series presentation of Broadway Holiday this December 8-20, 2009. The auditions will be held in the Mathile Theatre at the Schuster Center. Each applicant must bring his or her own accompaniment or pianist; a CD player and piano will be available. The auditions will be video taped for judging purposes. All applicants must schedule an audition time by calling the Victoria Theatre at (937) 228-7591. No walk-ins.
Victoria Theatre Association will continue to offer online auditions as well. This weekend, my people will gather will their families to celebrate the high holy holiday of Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year. Following the weekend festivities, Jews enter into a week of repentence, concluding with a day of fasting on Yom Kippur.
Technically, you're not supposed to be watching TV during Rosh Hashana, a certified "day of rest." I was raised in a reformed household though, so we play by a looser set of rules than more observant practitioners. Togetherness in my own family is usually punctuated by a movie or two. And since the Coen brothers' intensely Jewish "A Serious Man" doesn't hit theaters for a few more weeks, we've got to make do with what's watchable at home.
