Absolutely abyssal sleaze, but good for a few laughs, 18 August 2008
Author: TheMarquisDeSuave from Worcester, MA

I have a sneaking suspicion that "The Godson" was produced later than 1971 or that it was rushed into the works as a cash-in. This softcore tale of the mafia bears a title similar to another mob film which was released the following year. Still, those expecting an epic story on scale with the Corleone Family, well, you're in for a treat. This might be the most low-rent story of the mafia ever made. This mob consists of about five guys lounging around at the Holiday Inn (the cheapest shooting locating I imagine). The film is utter trash and abyssal sleaze, but its enjoyable for a few chuckles derived from the shoddiness of it all.

As camp, this is enjoyable enough, but as sexploitation, it unsurprisingly fails. There are a good amount of attractive women (including my favorite sexploitation film star of the period Uschi Digart), but the film is so goofy there's absolutely no erotic value. William Rotsler directs, but this is nowhere near as good as either "The Agony of Love" or "Mantis In Lace" (two of the finest drive-in exploitation films of the period). Still, if you're a fan of Something Weird's brand of trash, this may be an entertaining enough diversion. (5/10)
