New Don't Look in the Basement Redux Coming from Josh Vargas

10 December 2009 2:14 AM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Director Josh Vargas (Sway) dropped us a line today letting us in on some pretty cool news -- he's been signed to write, direct, and executive produce a new remake of the S.F Brownrigg film Don't Look in the Basement.

Not to be confused with the previously announced Alan Rowe Kelly project of the same name, Vargas tells us his Don't Look in the Basement will be an entirely different beast.

The upcoming remake is being produced by Parrish Randall and Burton Bailey and will be shot in South Texas at the same exact location as the original. That's pretty badass if you ask us!

"The original 1973 film is one that not only I, but Burt and Parrish hold very close to our hearts, explains Vargas. "This will not be a 'reimagining' or 'reinvention', but a straight-up remake of a great horror film that deserves a shot at a new generation of horror fans. …

Deneen Melody ('Master's Devils', 'Dark Hallways')

7 December 2009 8:42 PM, PST | Pretty/Scary | See recent pretty-scary news »

-Interview by Nic Brown-

The saying goes "Don't mess with Texas!" and although she may be based out of Chicago now, you'd still be well advised not to mess with native Texan Deneen Melody! She's played everything from an assassin to one of the devil's daughters. This former ballerina-turned-horror actress is not just an actress; she's also a model who's learning to do her own stunt work! Now Deneen is taking a break from learning how to fight on screen to talk with Pretty Scary about her new projects, why she gave up ballet, and why some people may call her a nerd (but not to her face, remember she's learning to fight!)...

Deneen, how did you get your start as an actress?

Well, before I got into film, I was actually a ballet dancer. Unfortunately, when I was 16, I broke my left foot during a performance. It was …

Filming for Alan Rowe Kelly's remake of the drive-in classic, Don't Look in the Basement has been postponed. According to Kelly the bad economy is taking its toll on indie films this year, but he hopes to have the film up and running by 2010. In the meantime, Kelly plans on completing the anthology Gallery of Fear starring an all-star indie horror cast including Debbie Rochon, Raine Brown, Terry West, Jerry Murdock, plus many more. Fans can expect Gallery sometime around February/March 2010. …

Don’t Look in the Basement Getting the Remake Treatment

8 March 2009 5:21 PM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Well, it seems like these days every other news item in the horror world is about a remake…and this is no exception.

Indie director Alan Rowe Kelly, who received some minor buzz for his first film I’ll Bury You Tomorrow in 2002, talked to Fangoria while at the Chicago Weekend of Horrors and dished with them that he intends on filming a remake of the 1973 gorefest Don’t Look in the Basement (also known to some as The Forgotten).

Kelly, owner and producer with SouthPaw Pictures, told Fango, “I love the first film. I really want to do justice to it and it looks as if it will be set and shot in Southern Indiana. Debbie Rochon and Raine Brown will be in the cast and so is Anthony Brownrigg who is the son of S.F. Brownrigg (who directed the original).”

“We are staying true to the original film, …
