Mid-november Theatre Happenings On The California Central Coast

Well ... I just got back from Chicago where I had the honor of officiating at the wedding of a college buddy of our son's over the weekend. I also had the opportunity to visit the Ernest Hemingway Museum and Birth Home in Oak Park (did you know he wrote 2 plays - one full length one and a one-act?), had probably the best cinnamon rolls I've ever eaten at Ann Sather's in the City, as well as getting to attend the Sunday matinee of Young Frankenstein at the Cadillac Palace Theatre (Thanks for the great seats Amanda - Fun show!). But as much fun as the trip was, and as amazing as the weather was (70 in Chicago the second weekend in November?!) - it was good to get back to the Central Coast and all that's happening here! »

Okay, so I didn't watch only these two movies, but I have a few movies I am saving for actual reviews including the new Natural Born Killers Blu-ray and Mira Nair's Monsoon Wedding which hits Criterion Blu-ray on October 20. While Monsoon Wedding will be a traditional review, I hope to encourage some conversation when I post my commentary on Natural Born Killers.

Many funny women have graced the screen over the years, from Mabel Normand to Lucille Ball to Tina Fey, but one woman's impact was unlike any other -- Madeline Kahn's.

When Star Trek was looming and there was a loud undercurrent of chatter about the previous space-led films, my brain got punny and came up with "The Wrath of Madeline Kahn." At first, I explained away my attachment to the title as part of my love of word play. But soon, I realized it was more than that. Kahn's wrath is a lot of what made her such an indelible comedic figure in Hollywood, one that grabbed two Oscar nominations for her craft.

Tarantino brings Graphic Basterds to Playboy

For only the third time in the magazine's history, Playboy has teamed with a feature film director to bring a comic adaptation of a scene from their film onto the printed page. Following Woody Allen's Everything You Always Wanted To Know About Sex But Were Afraid To Ask in 1972 and Gene Wilder's Young Frankenstein in 1974, film-based comics return to Playboy after 35 years with a scene from Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds.

The 'Bunny gave Fango a pair of preview pages from the spread, which hit's stands this Friday, and can also be viewed online at this location.

The following scene was hand-picked and edited by Tarantino himself, right down to hand-written notes and edits on the pages.

Sam Rockwell Promises 'Iron Man 2' Team-Up For Justin Hammer And Whiplash

There's no shortage of nemeses for Tony Stark to wrestle with when "Iron Man 2" hits theaters next year -- and while Sam Rockwell's war profiteering villain Justin Hammer isn't as physically threatening as some of the film's other bad guys, he shouldn't be considered any less dangerous.

Speaking with MTV News about his character in the Jon Favreau-directed film, Rockwell confirmed what has long been assumed but has yet to be discussed at length—that the nefarious Hammer will not only share scenes with Mickey Rourke's Whiplash character, but they'll actually join forces against Iron Man himself.

"The closest I can come to [describing our characters' relationship] is maybe Gene Wilder and Peter Boyle in 'Young Frankenstein,' or Abbott and Costello," Rockwell half-kiddingly explained. "I'm sort of a fast-talking arms dealer and Mickey's a weapons maker, so he's a very dangerous man—he's been in the joint. And I've got the money. »
