Storyline

David is the new kid at Central High. The only person he knows is Mark, who runs with the local toughs led by Bruce. Mark and David share a bond from years before when David came to Mark's aid when Mark was being beaten by school bullies. David keeps his distance, preferring not to join the "club." He tries to convince the other students not to be pushed around, and intervenes once too often on their behalf. When he directly becomes a victim of Bruce's gang, David orchestrates a plan that causes an attrition problem among the members of the clique. Mark worries for his safety, even though he and David were once friends. Written by Ed Sutton <esutton@mindspring.com>

Buy ONE seventies exploitation movie........get a cautionary fable FREE!

At a first glance, MASSACRE AT CENTRAL HIGH sounds like (as is packaged like) a cheesy 70's 'slasher' flick. And although, it contains several 'inventive' death sequences, a much darker subtext is at work here. Reason and logic are thrown out of the window from the first act, and the movie soon becomes a morality tale on the 'cycle-of-violence'. Teenage athlete (mark) comes to a new high school, doesn't want to fit in with the local bullies (despite their pleads for him to join) but when mark confronts these bullies, and sides with the down-trodden, the bullies cripple him. Now, twisted and bitter, mark plans brutal revenge on his tormentors, but these 'acts of revenge' are only the beginning .

A lot of the set-ups and plot devices are unrealistic, to the point of the movie bordering on the sci-fi/fantasy genre. But the plot (and the social message that comes with it) soon meld with the way-out 70's performances, and create a dreamlike quality. The police are never seen (until right at the end, despite several previous 'violent' murders) and any adult supervision (in the form of teachers) are glimpsed briefly (once again) in the explosive final act. Performance wise, the acting is competent enough (the 'message' is the star, here) and the (despite what others have said) haunting theme tune (crossroads of your life) work well to back up a great cult movie. Should be shown in all schools/high schools and universities, as a cautionary tale on fascism begetting fascism, from a time when movies (however low-budget) would still take risks, over box-office and CGI.

Fine movie is well worth a solid ten out of ten.
