hilarious and obscure sleeper, 12 August 2002

"Spermula" is about a race of bodiless aliens living on the doomed planet of Spermula, and their attempts to eradicate the human race so that they can have their planet. The Spermulites take the form of women whose mission is to suck all the sperm out of the human males, thereby dooming the species; despite admonishments that they do not enjoy their sexual acts with the human males, all of them eventually begin to succumb to the temptations of the flesh. The famous Udo Kier plays a Spermulite who has been accidentally made a male (with an inconsiderable member), and who refuses to ask the "Great Mother" that he be made a female: he wants to be male and marry a woman. This unique and bizarrely stylized satire of conventional sexual morality somehow never became a cult hit - and very undeservedly too, as it is filled with some of the funniest dialogue this side of "Andy Warhol's Bad". As I understand it, the French filmmakers dubbed this into English themselves for their own aesthetic purposes, but I'm not entirely sure of this. It is now very obscure, but well worth the effort it takes to ferret out a copy - and hopefully some day it's worth will be more widely recognized and appreciated.

Great erotic fun, 9 August 2001

Spermula is a great, intensionally funny sex/sci fi flick, and it got Udo Kier (the world's most handsome man!) in one of the major roles. What more could you possible need? The story is based around "spermulites", the alien inhabitants of a dying planet. The only way they can save their planet is by sucking the men of planet earth dry of sperm, kind of like horny vampires. Of course they take the shape of sexy girls, but Udo's character is mistakenly transformed into a man with a 1 centimeter long penis. It's a very dumb movie, but it got heart and wit. Unfortunely it's a bit overlong. And Udo's voice has been dubbed, ruining the day for all us "Udolites" who love to hear his sexy mid european accent.

But it's still a good and fun flick, too well made to be labelled camp. They don't make erotic movies like this any more. Recommended.

You might have some trouble trying to find a copy of this lost Udo gem, but it's well worth the effort.

Quite good, quite beautiful, 23 January 2006

The Planet of Spermula is about to be destroyed, so the Spermulites travel to Earth. Their intentions are to take over the male species by taking on the form of the stronger females, and rallying females to their side. But can they withstand the strong human sexual urges?

This film was very well made. The actors are excellent, and the camera work is very artful and well done. The movie has great visuals throughout, and a very original soundtrack. This is not a very graphic movie, by today's standards it would be rated R. I laughed several times while watching this.

I was surprised to find that this has not been officially released. The quality of it, and it's cult appeal should insure an eventual DVD release by some cult film distributor. I purchased mine on DVDR from an online store, dubbed in English, very well. Hopefully someday a distributor will pick this one up. It's a very original piece of erotic surrealism and shouldn't be allowed to disappear.

surprisingly good sci-fi/horror sex comedy, 15 October 2003
Author: bukakkefriedchicken from fabulous Las Vega$!

A castle full of beautiful women(aliens in disguise) are here on Earth to suck us men dry! And I'm not talking blood, folks. This method of wiping out humanity is by far the most appealing I have seen in the history of cinema. Udo Kier is great as the 'accidental' male. Surprisingly high-style film is at once erotic and riotous, and it should be brought forth to the audience it deserves...a cult classic, if ever there was one, but, sadly...a difficult one to acquire. Worth the search! 7/10

A guide how not to make an adult film, 25 October 2005
2/10

Dayle Haddon, the supposed star of this epic, now advertises on TV for beauty products to fight the effects on skin of ageing. Creams and such like.

My apologies to Ms Haddon but I cannot watch these adverts without shuddering and remembering this film. As an afterthought, I also cannot but wonder what those tubes, she is is trying to flog to women, actually contain.

In Spermula (the film called something else I recall and I think it was produced by the Playboy organisation) she and the rest of the "cast" were way ahead of Cameron Diaz and the infamous "hair cream" scene in Something About Mary. What was Udo Keir doing in this? It mattered not - he phoned in his performance anyway.

Story board was nominally aliens want to use human species' essence, to survive. So became sexually attractive "laydees" in order to get the product sought. I am skating around the subject for taste.

Put it this way, this was one bunch of alien workers who wouldn't say "Blow this as a job". A lot a gratuitous nudity - which was no bad thing to the young me - but like many other adult films - logic took a back seat -or fell out of the car altogether. Never mind - it is still an hour and a bit I don't mind "wasting". Unlike when I watched Haddon's "Cyborg".
