Parents Guide for
Being There (1979) More at IMDbPro »

The content of this page was created directly by users and has not been screened or verified by IMDb staff.
Since the beliefs that parents want to instill in their children can vary greatly, we ask that instead of adding your personal opinions about what is right or wrong in a film, that you instead use this feature to help parents make informed viewing decisions by describing the facts of relevant scenes in the title for each one of the different categories: Sex and Nudity, Violence and Gore, Profanity, Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking, and Frightening/Intense Scenes.
Visit our Parents Guide Help to learn more

Sex & Nudity

There is one scene where Shirley McClaine's character pleasures herself on the floor beside a bed. There is no nudity, but she does a credible job with the voice acting.

There is one scene in which a man asks Chance if he has ever had sex with another man.

There is a joke about genital size

Violence & Gore

None.

Profanity

Average amount for a PG movie of the 70's. Would get a PG-13 rating today for profanity/sexual innuendo.

Profanity is infrequent and includes: 2 instances of the use of the word "damn"; 3 instances of the use of the word "shit"; 1 instance of the use of the word "hell"; 7 instances of the use of the word "ass"; 2 instances of the use of the word "bastard" Other profanity used: "Chickenshit", "Asshole"

As the closing credits roll, bloopers from a scene that does not appear in the movie are played: Sellers, lying on a gurney, tries in vain to recite the "message" given by the gang leader, which includes quite a bit of swearing.

No drugs. The occasional cigarette as well as casual drinking.
