Family Guy’s Something Something Something Darkside Trailer: The Empire Strikes Back Spoof

25 November 2009 10:39 AM, PST | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

So here's the thing: Star Wars spoofs are basically the most obvious and dated thing imaginable, but I actually kinda liked Fanboys. Go figure. That still doesn't make me any more interested in another Family Guy Star Wars special, but I know there are a lot of people out there looking forward to this. The first Family Guy Star Wars special Blue Harvest was such a huge hit that Fox decided to push the release date for the sequel back a bit and release it on DVD before it airs on TV (a practice becoming more and more common nowadays). It's called Something Something Something Darkside, and it parodies the events from The Empire Strikes Back. A trailer has arrived on Apple.com [1], which makes it like... official, or something. I'm sure you know what you're in for. Are you a Family Guy fan? Is this something you plan on checking out? »

Family Guy’s Something… Dark Side Trailer

24 November 2009 8:33 PM, PST | newsinfilm.com | See recent newsinfilm news »

This is a post about Family Guy’s “Something, Something, Something Dark Side” trailer, but I couldn’t fit the whole title in the subject line.  I hope you’ll forgive me.

The movie is Family Guy’s humorous take on Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back after their success with Episode IV parody titled “Blue Harvest.”  By the way, the title comes from this clip in the “Barely Legal” episode (season 5) where the Emperor finds the formula for great Star Wars dialogue. The trailer is funny, but seems to be a lot of recycled jokes from previous seasons.

Official synopsis:

The saga continues as Luke (Chris), Leia (Lois), Han Solo (Peter) and Chewbacca (Brian) have evaded the dreaded Imperial Starfleet led by the cunning, conniving and curiously short evil lord Darth Vader (Stewie), setting up a new secret base on the remote ice world of Hoth. »

Trailer for Family Guy: Something Something Something Dark Side

24 November 2009 3:14 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

If you need an example of why I no longer watch Family Guy, you need look no further than this trailer for the show’s parody of The Empire Strikes Back, Something, Something Something, Dark Side.  I used to be one of the show’s most ardent fans before it was cancelled.  I was so happy when Fox brought it back and then I discovered that the show just wanted to recycle all of its old jokes.  That’s why you’ll see the Giant Chicken as Boba Fett or an At-at grabbing its knee like Peter did in the Willy Wonka episode back in 2000.  But hey, it’s a Star Wars parody and you don’t see a lot of those so hit the jump and check out the trailer for Something, Something, Something Dark Side.  The hour-long episode will be available on DVD and Blu-ray on December 22nd. »

Family Guy: Something, Something, Something, Dark Side Trailer

24 November 2009 11:24 AM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

The full length trailer for Family Guy's Empire Strikes Back parody Family Guy: Something, Something, Something, Dark Side premieres today on the iTunes store, Apple and YouTube. The trailer is "a nearly exact remake" of the original trailer from the 1980 classic The Empire Strikes Back. Watch it now embedded after the jump. Here is the official synopsis: The saga continues as Luke (Chris), Leia (Lois), Han Solo (Peter) and Chewbacca (Brian) have evaded the dreaded Imperial Starfleet led by the cunning, conniving and curiously short evil lord Darth Vader (Stewie), setting up a new secret base on the remote ice world of Hoth. With the rebellion in trouble, young Skywalker must take the advice of his late, and rather lascivious, mentor Obi-Wan Kenobi (Herbert) and learn the ways of the “farce” under Jedi Master Yoda (Carl) to save the galaxy once and for all. The movie will be released on iTunes, »

Rampaging Elephant Gadget Inspired by 'Star Wars'?

23 November 2009 9:30 AM, PST | Fast Company | See recent Fast Company news »

Rampaging elephants may not be a particularly bothersome problem around your neck of the woods, but they are in India. Instead of anesthetizing them, an inventor's come up with a neat solution that's seems to have sprung from repeated obsessive Star Wars viewing.

Elephants are revered in the Hindu faith (thanks to elephant-headed god Ganesha) and they're a big part of many religious observances--as well as being a tourist attraction all by themselves. Animals, of course, are similarly used throughout the world, but when the beasts get ticked off, bored, or suddenly threatened, it's a much more serious problem than, say, an irate goat or ornery horse. The current solution is to fire an anesthetic dart into the elephant, but it's not ideal--the effect can sometimes add to the stress the elephant is experiencing, and in a panic, several shooters can fire multiple darts into the elephant's flank and that »

Karl "Bones" Urban on Star Trek 2

20 November 2009 11:40 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

After a notable role as Eomer in the second and third chapters in Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Karl Urban went on to star in the ill-fated Pathfinder, Marcus Nispel's Vikings-versus-Native Americans action film.

Urban followed up his little-seen Pathfinders starring role with the supporting role of Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy in J.J. Abrams' revamped Star Trek, a role that promised to put him back in the spotlight. However, Abrams' film focused primarily on the relationship between James T. Kirk (played by Chris Pine) and Spock (Zachary Quinto), rather than on the the Kirk-Spock-Bones trinity that served as the basis for the original series. In a recent interview with IGN, Urban said that he hopes that his role gets beefed up for Star Trek 2, if only to pay homage to the original.

The structure [of the new film] wasn't really the traditional triumvirate that you've seen on the television show. »

Opinion In A Haystack: Eric Lichtenfeld Part 2

Interview: Eric Lichtenfeld Part 2 of 2

This is the second half of my talk with Eric Lichtenfeld, author of Action Speaks Louder: Violence, Spectacle, and the American Action Movie. Please don’t forget to check out the first half of this interview or my original review of his book.

Bob Rose: Do you enjoy action film satires such as True Lies, Shoot ’Em Up, or Hot Fuzz?

Eric Lichtenfeld: I like True Lies a lot.

Br: It’s definitely a satire, at least to some degree.

El: Yes, a loving one. It’s one of those films that works both ways. I think Robocop is an even better example than True Lies, but both of them illustrate this well: it’s a satire that works as a movie even if you don’t get the satire. You don’t watch them and think that there is something you’re missing. »

'Fantastic Mr. Fox': A toast to stop-motion animation

15 November 2009 2:45 PM, PST | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

I adored Fantastic Mr. Fox, which opened this weekend in Los Angeles and New York, and expands nationwide on Thanksgiving. We could discuss how working in a new medium has rejuvenated director Wes Anderson's creative juices, or how all of the voice performance were delivered in the same slightly ironic, yet still heartfelt tone, or how composer Alexandre Desplat wrote one of the most delectable scores in quite some time (as part of a soundtrack that already makes exemplary use of the Beach Boys, the Rolling Stones, and Jarvis Cocker). But really, above all else, it's the film's stop-motion »

Family Guy ‘Empire Strikes Back’ Parody Trailer

13 November 2009 2:01 PM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

To round off this Friday nice and easy, I thought I’d post a little something to get you laughing (or hopefully at least chuckling). Family Guy has become a household name at this point, but the show managed to out do itself back in 2007 with its season 6 premiere, “Blue Harvest”, an hour-long parody of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.

Well, today we have the trailer for Family Guy’s follow up to “Blue Harvest”, which could only be an equally hilarious skewering of the next film in the Star Wars canon, The Empire Strikes Back.

With “Blue Harvest” the Family Guy team lampooned pretty much everything you could ever want to make fun of in a Star Wars movie, and earned extra points for inserting all our favorite characters from Quahog into ironic (and gross) Star Wars roles. [Nerd Alert] “Blue Harvest” was the fake working title used during »

The super fresh trailer for director Louis Leterrier's new vision of the 1981 classic is now online to cure our fantasy fix. Go ahead and watch it now, I'll wait... ...pretty tasty eh? As mentioned before Clash of the Titans is a remake of the classic 1981 mythical adventure about the story of Perseus who must win the right to marry his love Andromeda and fulfill his destiny. To do this Perseus must complete various quests and tasks including battles with Medusa and the Kraken monster in order to save Princess Andromeda. The original boasts the special effects creatures and wizardry of stop-motion FX master Ray Harryhausen. This time around they are taking from those foundations and expanding with the cream of the crop effects of today. Star Wars The Clone Wars: Season One Blu-ray Review

3 November 2009 12:13 PM, PST | TheHDRoom | See recent TheHDRoom news »

As the Star Wars prequel trilogy unfolded it became painfully clear that the Clone Wars emotionally alluded to by Ben Kenobi in A New Hope would not be the focus. The narrative chosen by George Lucas was a major blow to scores of adults who waited decades to see insinuated epic battles unfold only to be given glimpses of a galaxy-wide war through a short montage of Jedi being purged and a blink-and-you'll-miss-it skirmish pitting Wookies and Clones against droids.

The exclusion of the Clone Wars in the Star Wars prequels opened the door for spin-off alternative forms of entertainment to delve deeper into the world of Clones, Jedi, politics and the Separatist forces. After a short test of anime-influenced Clone Wars shorts on the Cartoon Network, LucasFilm embarked on a new CGI animated show that will cover the Clone Wars slipped over between episodes II and III of the live-action films. »

I'm filing this in two places: 1) Incredibly awesome and 2) thing I will never have the time to try and do. Is that not the coolest thing you've seen all day, or what? Ong Bak 2: The Beginning (review)

29 October 2009 1:07 PM, PDT | www.flickfilosopher.com | See recent FlickFilosopher news »

A few years back, the dynamic, gritty, exciting martial arts action flick Ong-Bak: The Thai Warrior gave us country bumpkin (Tony Jaa) in modern Bangkok, hunting down a relic stolen from his home village and busting it up with mobsters and street punks and all manner of bad guys. Now, Jaa is back, and they’re not kidding about it being “the beginning.” Rewinding to 15th century Thailand, this is the downright Dickensian tale of a royal boy kidnapped by slavers and raised by thieves who grows into a man, Tien (Jaa), who vows revenge on everyone who’s wronged him. While the first flick was thoroughly grounded in the here and now, this one sings with a fantastical flair that recalls everything from The Lord of the Rings to Apocalypto to The Empire Strikes Back (in Luke’s Jedi training), along with its own unique touches: there’s a »

New 3-D Star Wars Trilogy on the Horizon?

22 October 2009 8:18 AM, PDT | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

File this one in the "We'll Believe It When We See It" category, but MarketSaw is saying an "absolutely connected," "trusted source" has let slip that, in addition to re-releasing the entire 6-part Star Wars trilogy in 3-D, George Lucas is planning on creating a new trilogy of Star Wars movies, filmed entirely in 3-D.

The article goes on to claim that Lucas is only interested in producing the trilogy, not directing, and that he may tap his friend Steven Spielberg, or perhaps Francis Ford Coppola, to helm one or all of the films.

Again, we'll believe it when we see it.

Update: Is a New Star Wars Trilogy Coming in 3D?

21 October 2009 7:58 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

It seems we might be going back to a galaxy far, far away in stereoscopic 3D, if a new rumor is to be believed. MarketSaw is reporting that a new Star Wars trilogy is being prepped for a 3D release.

It was also reported by the site that they're sources indicate the new trilogy will not be directed by George Lucas, although he will still produce, and that heavyweight directors Steven Speilberg and Frances Ford Coppola could be in consideration to direct these new films.

The site is also saying that these films moving forward is heavily dependent on the success (or failure) of James Cameron's 3D epic Avatar, which is set for a December 18 release. It was also reported that work is under way on converting the original trilogy - Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back and »
