Star Wars The Clone Wars: Season One Blu-ray Review

3 November 2009 12:13 PM, PST | TheHDRoom | See recent TheHDRoom news »

As the Star Wars prequel trilogy unfolded it became painfully clear that the Clone Wars emotionally alluded to by Ben Kenobi in A New Hope would not be the focus. The narrative chosen by George Lucas was a major blow to scores of adults who waited decades to see insinuated epic battles unfold only to be given glimpses of a galaxy-wide war through a short montage of Jedi being purged and a blink-and-you'll-miss-it skirmish pitting Wookies and Clones against droids.

The exclusion of the Clone Wars in the Star Wars prequels opened the door for spin-off alternative forms of entertainment to delve deeper into the world of Clones, Jedi, politics and the Separatist forces. After a short test of anime-influenced Clone Wars shorts on the Cartoon Network, LucasFilm embarked on a new CGI animated show that will cover the Clone Wars slipped over between episodes II and III of the live-action films. »

'Pulp Fiction' music mashup masterpiece: A bad motherf--ing clip

30 October 2009 11:42 AM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

I'm filing this in two places: 1) Incredibly awesome and 2) thing I will never have the time to try and do. Is that not the coolest thing you've seen all day, or what? I want someone to do that with The Empire Strikes Back. (Not me, of course, because I'm busy with that thing I've got to get back to doing. Right. Carry on.) »

Ong Bak 2: The Beginning (review)

29 October 2009 1:07 PM, PDT | www.flickfilosopher.com | See recent FlickFilosopher news »

A few years back, the dynamic, gritty, exciting martial arts action flick Ong-Bak: The Thai Warrior gave us country bumpkin (Tony Jaa) in modern Bangkok, hunting down a relic stolen from his home village and busting it up with mobsters and street punks and all manner of bad guys. Now, Jaa is back, and they’re not kidding about it being “the beginning.” Rewinding to 15th century Thailand, this is the downright Dickensian tale of a royal boy kidnapped by slavers and raised by thieves who grows into a man, Tien (Jaa), who vows revenge on everyone who’s wronged him. While the first flick was thoroughly grounded in the here and now, this one sings with a fantastical flair that recalls everything from The Lord of the Rings to Apocalypto to The Empire Strikes Back (in Luke’s Jedi training), along with its own unique touches: there’s a »

New 3-D Star Wars Trilogy on the Horizon?

22 October 2009 8:18 AM, PDT | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

File this one in the "We'll Believe It When We See It" category, but MarketSaw is saying an "absolutely connected," "trusted source" has let slip that, in addition to re-releasing the entire 6-part Star Wars trilogy in 3-D, George Lucas is planning on creating a new trilogy of Star Wars movies, filmed entirely in 3-D.

The article goes on to claim that Lucas is only interested in producing the trilogy, not directing, and that he may tap his friend Steven Spielberg, or perhaps Francis Ford Coppola, to helm one or all of the films.

Again, we'll believe it when we see it.

Update: Is a New Star Wars Trilogy Coming in 3D?

21 October 2009 7:58 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

It seems we might be going back to a galaxy far, far away in stereoscopic 3D, if a new rumor is to be believed. MarketSaw is reporting that a new Star Wars trilogy is being prepped for a 3D release.

It was also reported by the site that they're sources indicate the new trilogy will not be directed by George Lucas, although he will still produce, and that heavyweight directors Steven Speilberg and Frances Ford Coppola could be in consideration to direct these new films.

The site is also saying that these films moving forward is heavily dependent on the success (or failure) of James Cameron's 3D epic Avatar, which is set for a December 18 release. It was also reported that work is under way on converting the original trilogy - Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back and »

Amulet Book Two: The Stonekeeper’s Castle

By Kazu Kibuishi

Scholastic/Graphix, 220 pages, $21.99 (hardcover) $9.99 (paperback)

Kazu Kibuishi is a talented animator and comic artist who has produced several graphic novel series, including Flight, Daisy Kutter: The Last Train, and now Amulet. The first volume came out over a year ago and now Scholastic has released the second book in the run. This book could have benefitted from a previously page for new readers.

The story is familiar as Emily Hayes discovers a necklace and amulet with magical powers. In the first volume, she and her younger brother Navin have adjusted to living in their great-grandfather’s home with their recently widowed mother. The amulet speaks to her, warning of impending danger which immediately results in a ghastly creature swallowing their mother. The chase is on to rescue her and book one achieves that goal, but she is gravely ill.

Sr Pick: Star Wars Tauntaun Sleeping Bag

8 October 2009 11:43 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

We all remember the scene from The Empire Strikes Back: Luke Skywalker and Han Solo trying to survive the sub-zero temperatures of planet Hoth by finding shelter in the stomach of a Tauntaun. For you Star Wars enthusiasts out there, your reenactment sessions are about to get a little more “authentic,” as you too can now find shelter from the frozen wastelands (your front yard in winter) inside your very own Tauntaun stomach!

What started out as an April Fools joke has now became a reality for sale; Think Geek is offering Tauntaun sleeping bags to those who want, starting this November.

Here’s the April Fools joke that started it all (it makes for a pretty good press release if you ask me):

In the sub-zero wasteland of the planet Hoth, only the strong survive… and of course those lucky Jedi protected by the thick skin of a Tauntaun. »

The Tauntaun Sleeping Bag is really happening

8 October 2009 7:44 AM, PDT | Corona's Coming Attractions | See recent Corona's Coming Attractions news »

Do you remember that kids Tauntaun sleeping bag that ThinkGeek thought up for an April Fool's Day joke? Starting next month the joke won't be on us anymore as the innovative online store will actually begin to sell Tauntaun Sleeping Bags for lil' (and big) Star Wars munchkins. Thank the Force and the demands of fans that came, saw and requested it be made.

ThinkGeek will sell the bag for $99.99 and it will look just like the one seen on April Fool's Day right now to the illustration of Tauntaun innards on the bag's inside lining. Cool! And it will even fit "most adults" says ThinkGeek.

The initial supply of Tauntaun Sleeping Bags will be low so the company is telling people if they want one sooner rather than later, sign up now and they will email you when they become available. You can even take a photo of you »

Family Guy: Something, Something, Something Dark Side

18 September 2009 10:11 PM, PDT | HollywoodNorthReport.com | See recent HollywoodNorthReport.com news »

Family Guy: Something, Something, Something, Dark Side is the upcoming hour-long episode of the Fox animated series Family Guy and the sequel episode to the Star Wars parody Blue Harvest, retelling the story of Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back as Blue Harvest did with Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, recasting characters from Family Guy into roles from the film. The episode was originally scheduled to air as the Family Guy 7th season finale, but has been pushed back to season 8. Like the previous installment, the poster for Dark Side is based on the design of an actual Star Wars poster. "...While on the planet 'Hoth' and being chased by 'Darth Vader' ('Stewie Griffin'), young 'Luke Skywalker' ('Chris Griffin') has a vision of his dead mentor 'Obi-Wan Kenobi' ('Herbert'), who tells him to go to the planet 'Dagobah' and learn the ways of »

Dreaming Big About Guillermo Del Toro's 'Big D' Announcement

11 September 2009 10:00 AM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

In the pantheon of bearded, nerd-loving filmmakers, Guillermo del Toro is still a lesser lord. A Duke to Prince Peter Jackson and King (or is it Emperor?) George Lucas, if you will. His power has been on the rise these past ten years, as his mainstream Hollywood history shows. From monster-movie-by-numbers fare like “Mimic” to the fantasia of bad-assery that is “Hellboy II,” del Toro is on track to be one of the greats.

While “The Hobbit” seems primed to be del Toro’s crown jewel, I’m personally more psyched about this “D”-related announcement he is teasing. “The Hobbit” will be good but the potential for greatness here is limitless. Here are five possible projects that could put del Toro over the top.

“District 10”

TriStar and Sony have already said they want to turn Neill Blomkamp’s sci-fi parable into a franchise. Obviously, Blomkamp and writer Terri Thatchell »

Before There Were Websites... (Pt 2)

...there were scrapbooks (prev. pt 1)

Let's continue that silly reveal of my "Movies of the Eighties" scrapbook. I'm still hoping to locate the "Movie Stars of the Eighties" companion volume in which I ranked all the actors and actresses of the decade. Wouldn't that be a Rotfl experience? If I can find it I will share, despite the loss of dignity it will surely occasion.

Behold! To your left is the tv guide cover that started it all. I guess it wasn't an actual TV Guide as my personal mythology has always relayed but whatever television magazine thingie was inserted into the Detroit Free Press back in the day. That cover right there started my whole Oscar obsession -- look how worn, damaged and fingered it is. I thumbed through it so many times. What is this naked gold man they call Oscar??? This cover unlocked my latent awards mania. »

Movie lover to sell £1 million memorabilia collection

20 August 2009 2:43 AM, PDT | Boxwish.com | See recent BoxWish news »

Collecting rare movie memorabilia is a hobby that can leave a serious dent in your finances and so it’s proved for British film fan, Luke Kay. Over the past 26 years, the 42-year-old from Swindon, Wiltshire has amassed an incredible collection of silver screen treasures, one that has set him back a whopping £1 million. And now the father of four is planning on selling his haul of iconic props, replicas and costumes (the latter numbering an eye-watering 16,000!), as storing them has eventually proved too expensive. So, what gems does he have? You name it, he’s got it and we’re talking nothing but the good stuff.

Kay’s collection is heavy on the Star Wars, the beloved sci-fi franchise represented by among others, the original lightsaber wielded by Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) in Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, a full-size moving Jabba the Hut and even »

Review: 'Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode II' on DVD

11 August 2009 1:39 PM, PDT | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

Robot Chicken has been satirizing popular culture with tremendous success since its debut on Cartoon Network’s [adult swim] in 2005. The brainchild of executive producers Seth Green and Matthew Senreich, the show has skewered all manner of films, television series, and celebrities.

Their most successful outing was the Star Wars Special, first aired in June 2007. The wild success in terms of ratings, critical commentary, and DVD sales meant a sequel was inevitable. The Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode II special aired last November and was recently released on DVD by Warner Home Video. It was also nominated for a 2009 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program (for Programming Less Than One Hour).

Amazingly, the 22-minute special has been expanded and extended so the disc is filled with 93 minutes of material. You have the original broadcast version, plus the 38 minute extended versions and then 33 minutes of extras.  That’s pretty impressive.

The special is also pretty damned funny. »

Star Wars Episode VII: Weird Crazy and Absurd

31 July 2009 5:02 PM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

To mash up two wildly different movie quotes: I wish I knew how to quit Star Wars, but just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in. This time, it's prompted by a collection posted at online magazine Dark Roasted Blend, which has rounded up a massive amount of links under the all-encompassing theme Star Wars for Your Mind, Heart and Soul.

I knew that SciFi Squad readers had recently voted Star Wars the best sci-fi movie franchise of all time in The Ultimate Sci-Fi Fan Poll, but with all due respect, the true mark of admiration and/or inspiration and/or madness is to spend time and money creating Boba Fett's full-size armor out of Lego. Or crafting the Millennium Falcon out of a single sheet of paper. Some things are in questionable taste: the charred remains of Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru, packaged in plastic as a toy. »

Watch This: On Set 'Star Wars' Home Movies

10 July 2009 4:02 PM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

If studios weren't incredibly anal about leaks and spoilers, we might be seeing a whole lot of videos like this on the web. David Berry worked as a rotoscope and animation artist for six months on Star Wars, shooting home movies when time allowed. He's put up a nostalgic compilation of some of those set to music, and it's a fun look back at the behind-the-scenes of George Lucas' space romp in the mid-70s when facial hair was common among men, and bras were not among women.

As one of the commenters points out, it's strange (and awesome) to see a workshop without a computer in sight, and to watch people working on things like a model of the Millennium Falcon or starfields by hand. Berry went on to work at Industrial Light and Magic on films like Close Encounters of the Third Kind, The Empire Strikes Back, »
