The content of this page was created directly by users and has not been screened or verified by IMDb staff.
Since the beliefs that parents want to instill in their children can vary greatly, we ask that instead of adding your personal opinions about what is right or wrong in a film, that you instead use this feature to help parents make informed viewing decisions by describing the facts of relevant scenes in the title for each one of the different categories: Sex and Nudity, Violence and Gore, Profanity, Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking, and Frightening/Intense Scenes.

Sex & Nudity

There is no sexual activity or nudity in the film at all. There are one or two relatively mild verbal references, and one use of sexual profanity in reference to sex.

Sexual Material Scale: 1/10 - Just a reference.

Violence & Gore

Gore scale 1-10: 8 = Very Gory

While "Creepshow" does feature some considerable violence, the film is based upon the classic E.C. horror comic books of the 1950s (which were aimed primarily at older children), and there is nothing more explicit here than what you would find in one of those comics.

A character is mauled by a mysterious beast. Others are pulled into a box to presumably the same fate (blood trickles from the box).

A zombie-like creature is shot with a pistol and black slime oozes from the wound.

A character has her neck broken and her head is later seen removed from her body. A man is killed by a gravestone falling on his head (no gore onscreen).

Two characters are strangled.

A man imagines shooting his wife.

A character is killed by swarms of insects, with the bugs crawling out of his mouth and graphically exploding from his chest.

The violence in "Creepshow" is deliberately very cartoonish and tongue-in-cheek to the point where it would be hard to take offense. Many of the more graphic scenes are photographed in bright red lighting and are accompanied by stylized animated visuals, which add to the film's comic-book atmosphere and minimize the effect of the gore somewhat. The film does not dwell too heavily on the violence, instead focusing on the macabre atmosphere, and most of the goriest images appear only very briefly on-screen.

Profanity

The use of strong language is infrequent and fairly mild throughout the film (e.g. 'b*tch', 'god-damn'), up until the final story, "They're Creeping Up On You!", in which one character uses some stronger language (ie. 'f*ck') as well as some racial slurs.

There is some smoking and drinking featured throughout the film. A man drinks beer. A few characters smoke cigarettes. An unsympathetic character is shown to be driving under the influence of alcohol. A man gets somewhat drunk on a bottle of wine and goes off to find another bottle. A character pours his friend a shot of whiskey to calm his nerves.

The film takes a moralistic stance on alcohol consumption; characters who drink excessively are shown to have other unpleasant characteristics and often receive an unpleasant comeuppance.

There is no drug use shown in the film.

In several sequences in the film, characters are menaced and attacked by rotting, undead creatures. Two characters are forced into a long and unpleasant death by drowning. A man commits suicide to escape an undesirable fate. An unsympathetic character is swarmed by thousands of cockroaches. There are a few jump-scare scenes and some gory detail throughout, but most of the horror is played with tongue-in-cheek humor, shot in a surreal cartoonish style, and is unlikely to be distressing to any but the most sensitive of viewers. There is nothing in the film too frightening for a mature 14 year old.
