Ever since Dreamworks Animation announced their line-up for 2009-2012 earlier this year, there seems to have been a distinct lack of info coming out about arguably their biggest upcoming film, the fourth installment in the highly successful Shrek franchise, this time entitled Shrek Forever After (previously Shrek Goes Fourth). More focus has been placed on the spin-off film, Puss In Boots, particularly with voice star Antonio Banderas giving us some insight into what characters will appear in the movie, etc…
However, today, thanks to USA Today, we have our first look at Shrek Forever After, as well as the first in-depth synopsis of the film. Unfortunately the image isn’t high-res, or even that big of a size, but it nonetheless give us our first look at the film which may or may not be highly-anticipated after the critical failure that was Shrek the Third. Here’s the synopsis, as »

[Update: Silver Surfer isn't as dead as first reported. See post for details.]
The last significant update we heard on the proposed Silver Surfer movie was last summer when director Alex Proyas said he’s definitely not working on the project, emphasizing that he’d never work with Fox studios again.
Since then, we have found out that Fox is pushing forward with the Fantastic Four reboot and that it would feature an entirely new cast. What does that mean for the Silver Surfer spin-off many were hoping for? Well, it’s unlikely to happen anytime soon.
Writer J. Michael Straczynski recently spoke with Collider last week and touched on the subject, saying that the not-so-hot reception to Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer made the studio put plans for the Silver Surfer character on hold.
Straczynski’s script has been done for a while and is in the hands of Fox, however it’s tied into the last Fantastic Four movie »

It’s been a long, long time since I’ve seen a movie with as much heart and as little brain as Christmas Story. No, this isn’t Another special edition of Bob Clark’s A Christmas Story, it’s a Finnish film called Joulutarina, and in a dumb, sappy way, it makes me want to cheer. Nothing I’ve watched in the past year has had the balls to pull some of the heartstring cords this sucker does without a second’s hesitation. Angelic glows illuminate characters being hit with glossy Finnish winter sunlight through frost-baked windowpanes. It’s all very cinematic, and as much as the lover of overt “Do it in the most movie-centric way possible,” but the realist in me—not the frostbitten cynic—just can’t accept the sheer… Public Broadcastingness of it.
There was a moment when I put the DVD in and looked at the menus, »

"Spike" starts, as horror films often do, with a car crash along a rural road at night. But this particular car crash is no accident. Two couples traveling to an unnamed destination are halted by what looks like a steam punk accessory. No one is seriously injured in the accident, but after the lone dude goes to check out the tire damage, an unseen assailant attacks him. The gothic spikes he found in the tire are now sticking out of his throat and he's bleeding out fast. The three remaining girls go into panic mode and try to figure out how to save their friend and just what the hell is going on.
The situation escalates quickly. Naturally, there is no cell phone reception and the Evil Dead cam is stalking them. »

With the announcement of Carrie making a return to the Broadway circuit after a short-lived disastrous first go-round, I'm left holding my head and wondering, "Why?" Horror musicals are like your socially awkward cousin. You know, the one who talks too much and quite possibly bears an uncanny resemblance to Franklin from Texas Chain Saw Massacre.
Is it fair to hold the horror musical to the same standards as the dastardly horror film remakes that seem to be happening in droves? I don't think I can help it. Few horror musicals have been born from an original idea which leaves me with the same funny feeling. I'm well aware that remakes have been happening since the dawn of time but this kind of remake is worse. When you add the word 'musical' to anything it evokes a horrible visceral reaction within many people. Adding it to the »

I’m not going to lie, I typically hate box sets. They’re more often than not, a dumping ground for DVD’s that have spent one too many years collecting dust in some old warehouse that their distributers are just a little too eager to get off the shelves. You go to your local video retailer or Amazon.com and think “Awesome, John Carpenter box set. Surely it’s packed with the original Halloween, The Thing, and Escape From New York.” Much to your dismay, you come to realize you’re stuck with Ghosts Of Mars (featuring the acting prowess of Ice Cube), that damned Village remake, and Escape From L.A.. Moreover even if you happen to like one or two of the flicks in the set, you’re bound to hate the rest; that is to say, if you could even identify what the, often bottom barrel, »

For the unaware, www.horrorcore.com is one of the largest outlets of the horrorcore/wicked shit musical genres the online market has to offer. For nearly a decade the site has played host to some of the most promising horrorcore veterans and prospects alike. Horrorcore powerhouses such as Mars, Menacide, Psycho Jesus, Kid Crusher, Q-Strange, and Insane Poetry have all been known to frequent the website, as well as quite a few of those future shiners like J.Hexx, bOb e. NiTe, and CrAkD (to name a few).
Well, back in 2003, the aforementioned Menacide launched what would become an annual horrorcore.com tradition; each Halloween a collection of the best holiday themed music the site has to offer would be compiled into one mass collection and released under the Devilz Nite moniker. Over the years some excellent work has graced the Devilz Nite compilations; terrific appearances from the likes of Sinister X, »

Recently, Geoff Boucher from the La Times had a chance to sit down with producer Frank Beddor (There’s Something About Mary), one of the minds behind the Monopoly concept, and Beddor gave readers the first ever look into what the story for the upcoming movie adaptation of Monopoly will be. What he said is not totally surprising: Beddor is working on a re-imagining of the Alice in Wonderland story called the Looking Glass Wars and he took that idea and applied it to Monopoly.
“[Hasbro has] this big world and this game — it’s the most famous board game in the world — and it just really came out of the whole ‘Alice’ thing. I took the approach of thinking of the main character falling down a rabbit hole and into a real place called Monopoly City … It was the re-engineering of ‘Alice in Wonderland’ that got me thinking and then with »

Once upon a time a good movie was in theatres. Don't you love that story? I think the more fitting opening would be "once in a blue moon". Well, you can cut your own hand off and strap that chainsaw to your arm because The Evil Dead is back! Yes, it's true! And oh how sweet it is. According to Film Junk [1], Grindhouse Releasing is resurrecting the classic with plans for midnight showings in select theatres in Canada and south of the border after receiving blessings from writer/director Sam Raimi and producers Robert Tapert and Bruce Campbell. Specific cities and dates have yet to be announced, but anywhere that's anywhere will have the masses clawing at their own skins to get a viewing. Ellen Ripley (Alien/Aliens, 1979/86)
Warrant Officer Ellen Ripley is just hanging out on the intergalactic transport ship Nostromo, leading the often-dull life of a Space Teamster, when all of a sudden, out of nowhere, her idiot captain decides to land on the remote planet Lv-426 to investigate some stupid distress signal emanating from a crashed spaceship. Now, as we all know, responding to distress signals is one of the top five most insanely boneheaded tactical decisions any science-fiction/horror space traveler can possibly make, but this doesn’t stop Captain Numbnuts from ordering his crew to get their asses down there and dope out the spooky alien wreckage.
Of course, once they go down to investigate, some dumbass crewmember decides it would be totally hilarious to stick his face in one of the strange egglike things he finds in the smoldering wreckage of the derelict ship. »

Charles Dickens purists, fear not. Robert Zemeckis remains faithful to the beloved tale, all the while putting his own spin on the story. This version is a little more exciting, and a lot more sinister than previous outings (it also happens to be in 3D), but I loved it.
I don’t think I really need to spend much time on the plot. Everyone knows the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, the original curmudgeon who hates everyone and everything and is just downright unpleasant. One Christmas Eve, he is visited by four ghosts; his former business partner Marley; the ghost of Christmas past, the ghost of Christmas present, and the ghost of Christmas future.
After seeing himself through the eyes of others that he visits with these ghosts, Ebenezer changes his wicked ways. His long suffering but loyal employee, Bob Cratchit, has a son who is very ill and the no »

Almost 30 years after its original premiere, "The Evil Dead" will rise again.
Writer-director Sam Raimi's masterpiece starring the memorable Bruce Campbell is one of my favorite horror movies of all time. So this news from Paste Magazine is truly a delicious treat!
I've only seen "The Evil Dead" in its VHS and DVD formats, so I'm looking forward to watching this fantasy-horror-thriller extravaganza on the big screen.
Paste Magazine tells us:
In 2010, the creators and Grindhouse Pictures will offer midnight showings of the cult classic at select Landmark theaters in the U.S., Mayfair Cinema in Canada, and more venues will be announced after the first of the year.
The always unconventional Campbell has this to say about the release: .Nothing can prepare an audience for what they are about to see, because nothing punishes an audience like Evil Dead . especially on the big screen. I.m really glad it.s back. »

Before there was Spider-Man, Sam Raimi began his multi-billion dollar career with little more than $375,000 and a script for a schlocky X-rated horror film. But when Evil Dead was released in 1981, its gore and wit garnered it a cult following, amassing box office earnings of $2.4 million in the U.S. and over $29 million worldwide. Its success led to several sequels, a stage musical, and cult fame for its writer-director and its star, Bruce Campbell.... »
