Parents Guide for
Poltergeist (1982) More at IMDbPro »

The content of this page was created directly by users and has not been screened or verified by IMDb staff.
Since the beliefs that parents want to instill in their children can vary greatly, we ask that instead of adding your personal opinions about what is right or wrong in a film, that you instead use this feature to help parents make informed viewing decisions by describing the facts of relevant scenes in the title for each one of the different categories: Sex and Nudity, Violence and Gore, Profanity, Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking, and Frightening/Intense Scenes.
Visit our Parents Guide Help to learn more

Sex & Nudity

A female character's shirt is lifted by spirits (non-sexually), although no nudity is shown.

A female is seen scantily-clad in a few scenes.

Violence & Gore

In one scene, a character graphically peels off his face and parts of it fall into a sink. His bloody skull is shown.

A boy is almost eaten by a tree (shown bloody afterwards) and strangled by a clown.

People are shown drenched in blood.

A steak explodes, revealing maggots.

A pool is filled with decomposing skeletons.

Coffins burst from the ground, and open to show rotten corpses.

Profanity

Some minor curse words are uttered, but nothing strong. The s-word is used and so is son of a b***h.

Parents smoke pot in one scene.

Although no deaths are evident in the film, it has many scenes that place children in threatening conditions. Several scenes might also be considered too strong for the youngest audiences. One scene features scores of skeletons. Children who fear clowns probably shouldn't watch.

Although the film is rated PG, some of the above content is pretty intense and parents should probably consider some of it on par with a PG-13.
