Uh Oh: Tron Legacy Writers to Script Ouija Movie

2 November 2009 6:33 AM, PST | Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news »

Tron Legacy is definitely on my list of most anticipated upcoming movies. I love the original Tron, and can’t wait to see a revitalized 3D version of that world with Jeff Bridges returning to the fold.

Here’s the short list of some movies that I’m less excited about: Battleship. Monopoly. Ouija.

Yes, it’s true: the writers of Tron Legacy (Adam Horowitz and Richard Jefferies) have been in talks with Platinum Dunes (who are breaking loose of the constraints of horror film remakes lately) to make a filmed adaptation of the Ouija board. I have no idea how talented Horowitz and Jeffries are (I’m hoping very), but it’s doubtful that they’ll make any use of the board scarier than a notable scene in Paranormal Activity.

According to the Heat Vision blog at Hollywood Reporter:

“The studio is looking at the project as a supernatural action-adventure movie. »

Tron Legacy Producer Talks About the Impact of Technology

31 October 2009 5:56 AM, PDT | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

When a sequel to an effects-heavy movie is made 27 years after the original, it's assumed that the technological advances in effects would give the sequel a much different look — especially when it's arriving in 3-D and features "groundbreaking technology".

In a recent interview with GameRevolution, however, producer Sean Bailey explained that Tron Legacy won't stray far from the original design — until the action begins.

The great thing is that the design is relatively timeless, but the ability we had effects-wise, action-wise, the speed we can move the Light Cycles at — we thought we could deliver just an incredible ride, an action movie, a science-fiction movie. We have the benefit of all this great design. I'm pretty confident that for all ages, this is going to be a rock 'n' roll ride, here. It's going to be a lot of fun.

Tron Legacy Producers Talk Disc Tourneys & Light Cycles

29 October 2009 4:02 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Chris Hudak of GameRevolution had the chance to sit down and chat with Tron Legacy producers Steven Lisberger and Sean Bailey at the D23 Expo in Anaheim. The wide-ranging interview touched on a number of aspects of the film, including the film’s look, its tone, and its music. I’ve excerpted some of the juicier segments below. For the full interview, visit GameRevolution.

Steven Lisberger on the tone of Tron Legacy:

“The tone of first film reflects a certain naïve idealism. This film reflects the temperament of Joe Kosinski, our director, our young writers, and Sean Bailey, my fellow producer – those who have a more realistic point of view of the upsides and downsides of technology and cyberspace.”

Sean Bailey on matching the “newness” of the original Tron:

“The great thing is that the design is relatively timeless, but the ability we had effects-wise, action-wise, the speed »

Jeff Bridges: The Dude Who Stares At Goats

28 October 2009 9:01 PM, PDT | Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news »

November 6th will see the release of the much anticipated The Men Who Stare at Goats. The film about an army battalion of “psychic spies” stars four Hollywood’s heavyweights: George Clooney, Jeff Bridges, Kevin Spacey, and Ewan McGregor.

Although each actor is well-known and has been in stand-out movies–Spacey in American Beauty, Clooney in Ocean’s 11, and McGregor in Moulin Rouge–Bridges takes the cake for playing, arguably, one of the most memorable characters in cinema history.

Bridges has had a long acting career, getting his unofficial start as an infant in the 1950 melodrama The Company She Keeps. At nine years old, Bridges began working in television with small roles in various shows over the next several years.

His first major role came in 1971, at the age of 22, in the film The Last Picture Show. The coming of age flick was a stellar debut for Bridges, earning him »

Daft Punk Contributing More than Music to Tron: Legacy

7 October 2009 1:49 AM, PDT | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

According to actress Olivia Wilde, the dance duo known as Daft Punk will be doing double-duty on Tron: Legacy, appearing on camera, as well as scoring the soundtrack. In a recent interview with MTV Wilde said, "They were in the movie" and also mentioned that they might be helping to promote the remake of the 1982 classic Tron. There's some ideas in the works about how to incorporate them into a [San Diego] Comic-Con event.

Wilde recently admitted that filming Tron: Legacy was "the most difficult thing" she's ever done, comparing it to giving "birth to a 19-pound baby." Wilde would not — or could not — divulge much more about her character or the plot, but admitted that she did get to handle one of the iconic pieces of Tron hardware in the film, the Deadly Disc.

I do use the disc, but I don't play with it in the same way as the other characters. »

Daft Punk to Have a Cameo in 'Tron Legacy'

5 October 2009 7:23 PM, PDT | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

Daft Punk will contribute more than scoring the original music for "Tron Legacy" as their cameo appearance in the movie has been recently revealed. Bringing up the news to the surface was Olivia Wilde, who will be seen as Kevin's loyal confidant named Cora in the "Tron" sequel. To MTV News, she simply said, "They were in the movie."

Although revealing the cameo appearance, the depicter of Thirteen in "House M.D." didn't offer further details, especially on what role the duo known for their robot personas will take on. She did note, however, that Disney plans to feature them in future promotional efforts. She said, "There's some ideas in the works about how to incorporate them into a Comic-Con event."

Back in March, it was announced that Daft Punk have been signed to write the original music score for this movie. While both members, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter, »

Exclusive: Daft Punk To Cameo In 'Tron Legacy'

5 October 2009 1:00 PM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Daft Punk likes to play dress up. The Euro electronica duo is basically never seen in public without spaceman helmets clamped to their heads. It's a look that would not be out of place in a sci-fi flick like, say, "Tron Legacy," Disney's mega-budget remake of the 1982 original about artificial intelligence, a computer-generated world and Jeff Bridges in a skin-tight neon suit.

And that's just where Daft Punk will be when the new "Tron" hits theaters in December 2010. MTV News has exclusively learned that the group will not only be scoring the film—as previously revealed—but that they will actually appearing in the movie itself.

"They were in the movie," star Olivia Wilde let slip during an interview with Josh Horowitz.

The 25-year-old "House" actress didn't go into detail about what Daft Punk's role will be, nor how long they will be on screen for, but she did »

Olivia Wilde Discusses The Difficulty of Making Tron: Legacy

4 October 2009 10:17 AM, PDT | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

With the shooting of Tron: Legacy behind her, Olivia Wilde told ComingSoon that making the sequel to 1982's Tron was about as difficult as giving "birth to a 19-pound baby."

It was, like, the most difficult thing I've ever done. We shot some 20-hour days, we were wearing the suits, which are not easy to wear. I was doing a lot of my own stunts and training a lot of the time. Really pushing myself physically as well as mentally. It was an epic undertaking. It was a Huge film to shoot in those few days. I was so proud to be a part of it. The morning that we wrapped it was an unbelievable feeling. We all just lost it. It was sunrise and we couldn't believe we were actually done.

You know, no matter how many people tell you it's going to be the hardest thing you've »

Tron: Legacy Attracted Jeff Bridges with "Groundbreaking Technology"

2 October 2009 8:54 AM, PDT | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

The original Tron movie was a triumph of the senses when it debuted in 1982, if not exactly a box office smash. It was one of the first features to incorporate the extensive use of CGI technology and was nominated for Academy Awards in Best Costume Design and Best Sound. With Tron: Legacy, Disney is relying on the latest graphics technology to help draw fans back into theaters to watch a sequel 27 years in the making. According to actor Jeff Bridges, the incredible CGI behind Tron: Legacy made his decision to reprise the role of Kevin Flynn an easy one.

That's the reason why I came on board for the sequel – for the same reasons I did the first one. Just to be a part of the groundbreaking technology.

It's really mind-blowing what they do. I went to Comic-Con this year and Disney had three movies there: Tron [Legacy], A Christmas Carol, »

Chris Wedge to Meet The Leaf Men

24 September 2009 10:23 AM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

A little over two years after the project was originally announced, Fox Animation has recommitted to producing “Leaf Men,” Chris Wedge’s (”Ice Age,” “Robots”) latest animated movie. Based on an illustrated children’s book by William Joyce, “Leaf Men” centers on a group of bugs who turn to the mythical Leaf Men in order to save their garden from an evil spider queen. In other words, it is “A Bug’s Life” but waaaay better. Find out who watches the leaf men after the jump.

According to Variety’s report, Fox initially agreed to co-produce the film alongside Wedge’s own Blue Sky Studios, Wedge was later allowed to try and find a new home for his project. Enter Pixar, where John Lasseter (who worked with Wedge as animators on the original “Tron”) was all too happy to bring his friend into the fold. Before the final deal with Pixar was struck, »

Tron: Legacy to Open in IMAX 3-D

24 September 2009 5:39 AM, PDT | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Tron: Legacy opens in the crowded weekend of December 17, 2010, next to The Green Hornet and Yogi Bear, but the movie has one thing that will set it apart: Tron: Legacy will be released simultaneously in 2-D, 3-D, and IMAX 3-D. Yogi Bear is the only other 3-D movie opening that weekend, but no other movie is opening in IMAX 3D.

Legacy is Disney's third movie in a five-movie deal with IMAX, and IMAX chairman and president, Greg Foster, is excited about it.

We share a common goal with our partners at Disney, which is to transport people to places they normally can't go, and the world of Tron is certainly one of those cool places. Since I saw the first glimpse of Tron: Legacy in 3-D over a year ago, I've felt it was the perfect match for the The IMAX Experience. Take that, Hornet and Yogi! »

Chris Wedge to Direct Leaf Men

23 September 2009 5:19 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

According to Variety, Chris Wedge (Ice Age) is going to direct the animated Leaf Men for Fox. Wedge's Blue Sky Studios will be producing.

The film will be an adaptation of the William Joyce illustrated children's book "The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs." The script was written by Jim Hart.

Initially Leaf Men was set up at Fox then it wasn't. So Wedge took it to Pixar. Wedge has been close to Pixar's John Lasseter since they made Tron.

The deal with Disney and Pixar was thwarted when it turned out Fox wanted Wedge to make Leaf Men for them.

In the story of Leaf Men "a troop of bugs" do everything they can to save a garden from the wrath of an evil spider queen. With nowhere left to turn, the bugs ask the Leaf Men for help.

Tron Legacy Coming to IMAX 3D December 2010

18 September 2009 1:27 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Disney has announced that the upcoming Tron sequel, Tron Legacy, will debut in IMAX and IMAX 3D theaters the same day as the movie’s worldwide release (surprise), December 17, 2010. That means that you can see the crazy sort of CGI light cycle races and battles (which impressed most everyone I know who watched the Tron Legacy first trailer) in full IMAX 3D glory!

Now in about 98% of cases, I’m don’t go for the IMAX and/or 3D marketing gimmick option (ticket prices in my town are high enough as is - $12-13!), but Tron Legacy (so far) looks to be that rare 2% instance where I’m going to be reaching into my wallet for that extra $10.

Michael Sheen Might Not Play The Tron: Legacy Villain

15 September 2009 9:43 AM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

The basic assumption for months now has been that Michael Sheen, a.k.a. David Frost from Frost/Nixon, would be playing the villain in Tron: Legacy, because who better to take on Jeff Bridges than the man who made Nixon fess up to doing wrong? But Coming Soon has learned that, in fact, Sheen's role is something closer to the owner of a Tron-verse version of Studio 54. Talking to Coming Soon at the Toronto Film Festival, Sheen said, "My stuff was mainly in this amazing set that they built because I'm a nightclub host, so they built the nightclub and there were hundreds of extras and it was one of those great scenes where there's just loads going on." Of course, no one is saying that a nightclub host can't also be a villain, and it seems pretty likely that that it could still be the case. »
