I firmly believe that one cannot judge a movie on first viewing. I like to review a movie after watching it a second time, after a week of my first viewing, preferably a month later. So may be I should not write this review an hour after seeing Avatar. A second viewing shows me things that I might have missed the first time. I like to form my opinion after several days, but but But... the initial opinion never changes.
I can watch a movie any number of times, but the first impression is, my dear movie aficionados, Always the best impression. So here it is, the first impression. You know the feeling when watching a really great movie, that awesome realisation that you are watching a masterpiece, the fuzzy feeling in your heart that you will be waching this movie again and again with your kids and grandkids?
Well,

James Cameron, don’t leave us for this long again.
What’s encompassed in the 161 minutes that the King of the World has crafted shows us a seasoned veteran who knew what he had all along. The feeling called back to something I felt at the 1996 Olympics when I witnessed Michael Jordan and the Dream Team make their way to another gold medal. Jordan effortlessly handled the ball unlike anyone who had played the game before him and ever will, no matter how many Kobe’s or LeBron’s come our way. I couldn’t help but be breathless as I witnessed a legend show why he was a true master of the art.
Simply put; Cameron has done things in Avatar I have never seen before in a film.
Never before have I used that phrase to describe any movie these eyes have ever seen, and maybe it’s

Warner Brothers No Longer Master of He-Man's Universe

With the box office success of movies based on toys like Transformers and G.I. Joe, the re-invention of another iconic toy line, Mattel's Masters of the Universe, seemed like a no-brainer. But adapting the adventures of He-Man and his battles against the evil Skeletor have proven to be quite the challenge, and it looks like these difficulties have finally taken their toll on Warner Bros. Variety reports that WB and Mattel reached a mutual agreement to let the studio's option on this property expire so that Mattel can take the project elsewhere. But what exactly does this mean for director John Stevenson and producer Joel Silver?
Word on the street is that Stevenson will stay attached to the project, but Joel Silver and his company Silver Pictures (being exclusive to WB) will stay behind. More than likely this separation should benefit Mattel in that they'll get the project they want.

Is it too late for "9" to be the action movie of the summer? Shane Acker's dystopian fable shares a subject with the latest entries in the "Terminator" and "Transformers" franchises (not to mention "Battlestar Galactica"), but his direction is a model of clarity and grace, and his animated, inhuman protagonists are more life-like and individuated than those of the average blockbuster.
Acker's feature, an expansion of his Oscar-nominated short, is set in a sandblasted future littered with desiccated bodies and shattered buildings. There are no humans -- the last dies just before the film begins -- but life, of a sort, still stirs amidst the rubble in the form of nine tiny figures, each with single digit etched into its back. With their burlap bodies and zippered torsos, they're like toys from the pre-industrial era, part mechanical and part organic. Although they're all the product of the same hand,

[TV] Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Complete Season 8

The pleasure of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles could be easily epitomized by any number of lines of dialogue, visual details, or questionable pieces of logic, but I’ll be lazy and go with the one that comes in the very first few minutes of the first episode in this collection. The Turtles (Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo; all named for Italian renaissance artists) are talking to crack reporter April O’Neal, who informs them that a gang of car thieves are hiding in the ‘old warehouse across the street’. She then points to the warehouse, which has a large sign at the front with simply the word ‘warehouse’ across it. I spent several moments wondering why that would ever be necessary, but by that point I had already missed all sorts of crap about Dimension X, and had to rewind.
The premise of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is fairly

The new Batman videogame: Does 'Arkham Asylum' deserve all the accolades?

Reviewers and gamers are going c-r-a-z-y over Batman: Arkham Asylum. The game, which went on sale today, is terrific: It masterfully weaves together a compelling storyline by veteran Bat-scribe Paul Dini, bone-crunching fisticuffs, vintage Bat-gadgets, oft-neglected detective work, and a satisfying turnout by the Dark Knight’s colorful rogue’s gallery (headlined by a Mark Hamill-voiced Joker). But I'm still surprised by how much attention it's getting.
The shocker, of course, is that the game has risen above the skepticism people usually have with movie- and comic book–licensed games. Just in the last few months, games based on Wolverine, Transformers, Terminator, Harry Potter, Indiana Jones, G.I. Joe, and Ghostbusters have underperformed, underwhelmed, or have flat-out flopped. Some of the backlash against these games was overly harsh — I actually enjoyed a lot of them, and I think the majority of the gaming audience didn’t give these games

If you were a kid growing up in the 1980s, your afternoons just didn't get any better than watching the wonderful animated adventures of Transformers and G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero, and yes, I was one such kid. Yes, I loved both of these series and one man was at the vocal center of both of these series. Gregg Berger provided the classic voices of the feisty Grimlock in Transformers and the Native American hero Spirit in G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero and you can find the Complete Series of both of these wonderful cartoons on DVD shelves now ( and to find out all the details on these massive new sets).
While I was down in San Diego for Comic-Con 2009, I had the honor of sitting down and talking to Berger for an exclusive conversation about these classic characters and his career in voice work as a whole.

Spoilers Below – Read At Your Own Want.
Update – Avatar site is now live: http://www.avatarmovie.com
Recap – Um, damn. Damn damn. That’s all that can really be said. What we saw explained why Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) becomes a Navi and basically showed off the world he’s created and some of the action sequences. There was no mech, but there was an Aliens throwback, a fight with a hammerhead looking beast, and Jake becoming “initiated” with the Navi tribe. The Navi’s themselves look ok, but everything else is nothing but flawless. Transformers or any other effects-fest is not winning the Oscar for visuals next year. Bottom line, this is the film you want to see the rest of the year. Period.
4:17 Pm Pst – They’re taking over IMAX 3D and 3D Theaters worldwide on August 21st to see 15 minutes of Avatar for free. Avatar Day indeed.

The Transformers: The Complete First Seasonshout Factory Home ENTERTAINMENT1984-85/General Audiences/6 HoursNow Available . List Price $29.99Has it really been twenty-five years since 'The Transformers' hit the scene? Man I feel old. I was actually into the 'Go-Bots' toys for a (very) brief period before this far more interesting story of alien robots waging war on Earth came to my attention in the fall of 1984. The animation was what one would expect from Marvel/Sunbow productions who had previously done great work on shows like 'Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends'. Basically 'The Transformers' animated series and comic books were created for the sole purpose of selling Hasbro's new toy line, but try telling us kids that. The writers came up with such likable characters and interesting stories that the line between fiction and reality would often be blurred for a ten-year-old. The character of heroic Autobot leader

Jose Padilha Picks Up The Controller For Lionsgate Video Game Adaptation

Lionsgate has nabbed director Jose Padilha and writer Braulio Mantovani to develop a live action adaptation of “Agent in Place,” an upcoming video game from Union Entertainment. Variety describes the project as “a character-driven action thriller” based on the until-now-unannounced game from Flint Dille, who has previous game writing credits on “Dead to Rights” and Starbreeze Entertainment’s excellent “The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay,” itself a spin-off from David Twohy’s “Riddick” films.
Union Entertainment, the company that previously brought comic book publisher Top Cow Productions’ “The Darkness” to Starbreeze for an Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 game, is working with Dille on “Agent.” Mantovani will produce a script based on Dille’s concept while Padilha finishes up with his current commitment to “The Sigma Protocol,” an adaptation of the same-titled Robert Ludlum novel. Padilha and Mantovani also previously worked together on “The Elite Squad,” an action/thriller set in Brazil.

Good, bad or interesting, the strange ideas from Hollywood for upcoming films keep coming at us like a runaway train and it’s time to grab on or get out of the way because it would appear that this train cannot be stopped. I, for one, have decided to get my ticket punched and grab a window seat because I’m curious to see where it’s heading next.
The next train pulling up belongs to Mattel - The toymaker that has given the world such classic toys as: Barbie, Hot Wheels, Chatty Cathy, Pound Puppies and my personal favorite, Rock’em Sock’em Robot. Mattel has recently inked a deal with Universal Studios to produce a live-action musical for a yet-to-be-named Mattel toy property.
Not much is known about the new movie other than it will be a musical and that Mattel’s new toy line that it’ll

He-Man Movie - Now Called 'Grayskull' - Gets Another New Writer

The Transformers effect has already led to a G.I. Joe movie, there will
be a Thundercats movie in a couple of years, and, as you probably know, they're reintroducing He-
Man with a flick called Grayskull.
The Hollywood Reporter says that Warner Bros. has changed course on Grayskull, bringing in
relative newcomer Evan Daugherty to put together the latest draft for director John Stevenson (Kung Fu
Panda), and this one not only reimagines the backstory of the He-Man alter ego, Prince Adam, but is
also supposed to be much grittier than previous versions.
It seems obvious that Warner Bros. will work with Mattel to develop a second generation toy line in conjunction with the film, which is still on the docket for 2011, but will the trend still be hot then? Will it even make it through this summer, with two toy franchises released within six weeks?

WB and producer Joel Silver have hired writer Evan Daugherty to rewrite the script. For all you budding screenwriters, Daugherty was a freelance video editor not a year ago but he entered a writing contest, his

New Live Action Ninja Turtles Movie Really Happening

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles attempted a comeback in 2007, with their first all-cgi movie Tmnt. It wasn't exactly a Transformers level success. Now they're going back to what propelled the franchise to lofty heights among pizza-lovin kids in the 80s and 90s: Rubber suits.
Well maybe not rubber suits, but The Mirage Group is working on a new live action, ninja turtles movie. They've talked about doing this for awhile, but Variety says it's finally moving forward as a prequel. The film, which they're targeting for a 2011 release will be an origin story for Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, Raphael, and Splinter.
An origin story seems a little strange. I've never really thought of the turtles as having a particularly film worth origin. Weren't they just a bunch of snappers who accidentally fell in radioactive ooze? How do you get an entire movie out of that? An origin montage maybe, but not
