Braff's Notorious Doppelganger

14 December 2009 12:06 AM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Zach Braff was devastated when he met his hero Eddie Murphy - because the film funnyman mistook him for Anne Hathaway's jailed ex Raffaelo Follieri.

Braff was thrilled when he spotted the Beverly Hills Cop star in a Hollywood coffee shop and couldn't resist the temptation to approach his idol.

But his joy was short-lived.

The Scrubs star explains, "I saw him in a coffee shop and I started shaking. I went over to him and I couldn't stop talking, I was blabbering, like 'You are my hero'.

"He then stopped me and said, 'Did anyone ever tell you you look like Anne Hathaway's boyfriend who went to jail?'

"That guy (Follieri) has been bothering me for years." …

Part 2: From Andrew Sachs to Harry Potter

Andrew Sachs Sent the Beeb into cautious compliance meltdown

If Manuel had bothered to pick up his phone, Ross and Brand wouldn't have been tempted to leave their naughty messages, the Daily Mail wouldn't have been able to work itself up into a hypocritical moralistic lather, thousands of people who'd never heard the original show wouldn't have rung in to complain, Russell Brand would still have his Radio 2 show instead of Alan bleedin' Carr, and the BBC wouldn't get all jumpy every time Frankie Boyle made jokes about the Queen's fanny. 'Beverly Hills Cop' is 25 Years Old Today... Can You Believe It?

5 December 2009 2:38 AM, PST | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Reading up on the history of Beverly Hills Cop, it never should have worked. By the time the movie went into production, there were about 8 billion different versions of the script. The final product was basically scotch-taped together from those different versions and whatever else didn't work was improvised by the cast.

Way back when, the story looked like a star vehicle for Al Pacino or James Caan in what would have been a much more serious take on the story. Then Mickey Rourke was attached. Then Rourke walked. Sylvestor Stallone came on board for an even bloodier version that never came to fruition because it would have been too expensive (reportedly Stallone took many of that version's ideas and made Cobra. I'm assuming it was most of the really bad ideas). So what did the studio do with what was once a serious tale of revenge? They made it a comedy. …

Kevin Smith's Latest Film Is "Average...in a Good Way"

28 November 2009 12:55 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

When filmmakers self-promote as much as Kevin Smith does, they typically get the reputation for being a snob. However, when Smith does it, it's often so candid and humorous that he ends up coming off as self-deprecating rather than arrogant. In a recent interview with AICN, Smith described himself as " a big f--in' loser from Jersey" and said that his success has forced him to rethink the films that he makes.

It was devastating the day I realized that, like, I can't do this anymore, 'cause it's too easy at this point. Like, I could do this in my sleep, but it's disingenuous. Like, I love Zack and Miri. I mean, I think it turned out well, but I look at Zack and Miri, and I look at Chasing Amy, and I go, Okay, two movies cut from similar cloth. What's the difference? One is made with the passion and …

Stephen King is working on ‘Doctor Sleep’, a sequel to ‘The Shining’

25 November 2009 8:38 AM, PST | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

Acclaimed author and Entertainment Weekly columnist Stephen King (I love his articles on movie theater candy, seriously) announced that he is working on a sequel to arguably his most popular novel, The Shining.

While King was promoting his new Under the Dome story in Toronto, he told fans and reporters that his current project is a story entitled Doctor Sleep.

King believes that the first novel never explained what happened to young Danny and his super-cool psychic powers and that the events at the Overlook Hotel left the lad with “emotional scars.”

“Danny is now 40 years old and living in upstate New York, where he works as the equivalent of an orderly at a hospice for the terminally ill,” says King. “Danny’s real job is to visit with patients who are just about to pass on to the other side, and to help them make that journey with the aid of his mysterious powers. …

Eddie Murphy’s Return To R-Rated Comedy To Be ‘Fluffy?’

20 November 2009 3:04 PM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Fans of old-school Eddie Murphy, one of the greatest stand-ups of all time, may have something to get excited about – because for the first time in over 10 years he has decided to return to that which made him a household name, that which made him great: R-rated comedies. And the comedy he has chosen will be The Misadventures of Fluffy for Paramount.

Wait. What? Nevermind, everyone can sit back down. Really? The Misadventures of Fluffy? I hate even writing that title, let alone watching it. C’mon Eddie, what are you doing? Last thing we heard was that Eddie Murphy had backed out of starring in the Richard Pryor bio-pic and now we’ve got this? He’s picking Fluffy over Richard Pryor.

Now, before everyone decides to chase after him with pitchforks (ala Frankenstein), it should be known that as of right now he’s not starring in this film, …

Misadventures For Eddie Murphy?

18 November 2009 11:33 PM, PST | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Remember the days before Eddie Murphy starting churning out family comedy after family comedy? Those days could soon be returning. Paramount are looking for writers for Beverly Hills Cop 4, and Murphy is attached (currently only as producer, but we'll see) to The Misadventures of Fluffy. Which is not what it sounds like.Fluffy is, at the moment, developing as an R-rated comedy, again for Paramount. Sam Pitman and Adam Cole-Kelly (behind Tyler Perry's mooted The Diversification of Noah Miller) are currently writing the script, which is reportedly a social buddy-comedy a la Trading Places, about a journey across New York. Featuring talking animals.Talking animals have worked for Murphy before of course, to the tune of half a billion in box office for the Dr Doolittle films. But this sounds like rather a different proposition, and we hope to see him in front of the camera on this one, …

White Collar Review: "Flip of the Coin"

14 November 2009 7:27 AM, PST | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

This week White Collar didn't give us much into finding more about Kate's whereabouts. We do find out one piece of the missing puzzle - the X in the champagne brand name is used on the mysterious map as "X marks the spot".

To where and to what? We don't know yet - nor do we understand why it has to be so difficult for Kate to relay this message to Neal. It seems that they share a mutual love for brain puzzles.

We know that this is all leading up to a very climatic scene in White Collar - one that will most definitely test the trust and bond between Peter and Neal.

Elizabeth works her way into the show this week by helping her friend Dana's husband get out of the tangled web he is in. She pretty much wears the pants and decides that Peter and Neal …

English Laundry To Debut John Lennon-Inspired Collection

10 November 2009 11:00 PM, PST | icelebz.com | See recent iCelebz news »

John Lennon continuously inspires popular music, but his style is inspiring clothes-makers as well. Rock & Roll Religion and English Laundry designer Christopher Wicks looked to the Beatles frontman for his latest menswear collection, Designs Inspired by the Art of John Lennon by English Laundry.

The collection, which retails at price points from to 0, features t-shirts, woven shirts and even blazers which feature Lennon lyrics and artwork. Many of the looks also include Lennon's well-known "Give Peace a Chance" mantra. The 60's-inspired looks are what designer Wicks calls "what John wore, incorporated with his art."

"A day without music is a day without inspiration," Wicks said about the collection. "My obsession with music and fashion goes hand in hand, and a clothing line exemplifying the aura and artwork of the brilliant John Lennon is something I've wanted to do for a long time. Both as a life-long fan and a designer, …

Casting Notes: Cheadle and Gleeson, Witherspoon is #1, and Djimon Hounsou Works With Ong Bak Director

30 October 2009 8:55 AM, PDT | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Here's your blast of casting bites for the end of the week. First up, Don Cheadle and Brendan Gleeson will team as unlikely cop partners in The Guard. Film follows the confrontational small-town Sgt. Gerry Boyle (Gleeson), who likes hookers and isn't interested in drug runners, and FBI Agent Everett (Cheadle) in a tale of international coke smuggling. Sounds on the surface like an Irish reversal of Beverly Hills Cop, where the small-town local guy is the irreverent jokester while the outsider is terribly straightlaced. John Michael McDonagh writes and directs. If it weren't for the cast, and the fact that it takes place in Ireland (not even sure why that's a draw) I'd be brushing this one off already. [ComingSoon] After the break, Reese Witherspoon demonstrates the first rule and Djimon Hounsou kicks some ass. Reese Witherspoon will produce and star in Rule #1, a tidy little dramedy about "a New …

'Prince Of Persia: Sands Of Time' Trailer Detailed

29 October 2009 9:00 AM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Jerry Bruckheimer's upcoming game-to-movie translation of "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" is the next great hope for adaptations of this sort. Video games have a spotty history in the world of cinema. In fact, that's probably a generous characterization. While a few have certainly made money, none have yet achieved that rare parity between critical and box office approval.

Bruckheimer's "Persia" has a shot though. The mega-producer has a great track record with event blockbusters: the "Pirates of the Caribbean" trilogy, two "Bad Boys," "Black Hawk Down," "Beverly Hills Cop" and a string of Michael Bay-helmed hits, including "Armageddon," "The Rock" and "Pearl Harbor." Okay... maybe not so much with "Pearl Harbor." Now we've got the latest on "Prince of Persia," in the form of a detailed runthrough of the as-yet-unreleased new trailer for the movie, which …

Chippendales creator unfiltered in biopic

Remember back in the 1980s and the movies Tony Scott made? The Hunger, Top Gun, Beverly Hills Cop 2? Whenever the sky was in a scene the guy loved to use a red filter on the top part of it. This new project of Tony Scott's sounds like it was made for that red filter effect.

Scott is now attached to direct a movie about the man who created the Chippendales male exotic dance group, Steve Banerjee. The movie will be set in the 1980s, so that red filter effect has to be in this picture! It just has to be!

The story will be written by Lisa Schrager and follow the rise and fall of Banerjee as he discovers the idea for the shirtless Chippendales, makes women scream in delight and becomes insanely wealthy in the process. Living the high life in '80s New York City and running with the Studio 54 crowd, …

‘Paul Blart’ Director Helming Short Circuit Remake

27 October 2009 10:03 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Early this summer, we announced that Dimension Films was in the process of giving Johnny 5 a remake-over with a new Short Circuit film. They just about had all of the pre-production people in place to make it happen; all they needed was a director. Dan Milano (Greg the Bunny) was putting together the script; David Foster, who produced the original, was returning to produce the remake and joining him were Ryan E. Heppe and John Hyde. So where did Dimension Films go to find a director? Where everyone else goes when they need to find something, of course - the mall.

Steve Carr, who directed 2009 surprise hit Paul Blart: Mall Cop, has been chosen to direct the Short Circuit remake and that just means one thing - a embarrassingly, unfunny actor will surely be cast as the male lead. What brings me to that conclusion? I’m glad you asked… …
