  • Continuity: When Chunk is watching the police chase, he has a slice of pizza that he puts on the window. In the next shot he turns it around. In the last shot it's back where it was in the first shot.

  • Continuity: During the chase with the Fratellis, the police shoot three bullets into the back of the jeep, then when Chunk finds the jeep at the restaurant the bullet holes are in completely different places.

  • Audio/visual unsynchronized: When Chunk stops the car and is speaking with one of the Fratelli brothers, the Fratelli is singing while his reflection is the mirror is smoking a cigarette.

  • Revealing mistakes: The "smoke of success" emanates from the bone pipe organ slightly before Andy hits the final correct chord.

  • Continuity: The balloon used for the automatic gate changes color from red to pink.

  • Continuity: Mikey removes the broken glass twice from the map frame.

  • Continuity: Mikey's mother's fingernails are (not) painted when they dump the jewels into them.

  • Miscellaneous: Mouth thanks Stef for offering to save his life; a reference to a cut scene.

  • Revealing mistakes: As One-Eyed Willy's ship leaves the cave, the rocks that fall into the water float.

  • Revealing mistakes: When Troy's father and his associate are there to drop off the foreclosure paperwork, it sounds like it's raining and they're both holding umbrellas. However, when Brandon walks down the sidewalk to them to pick up the paperwork, you can clearly see that their umbrellas aren't wet. Nor is the car behind them, and neither Brandon or the paperwork gets wet.

  • Continuity: When Brandon gets the paperwork from Troy's father, it's folded in thirds by the width. However, when he walks back up the sidewalk to the porch, it's folded in half lengthwise.

  • Anachronisms: When the kids come across the dead explorer they pull a baseball card from his wallet. The card is Lou Gehrig from the 1973 Topps collection. However, they mention that he has been down there dead since the 1930s.

  • Continuity: While Mikey's Mom is showing Rosalita the house, she is moving items around the room and gets a white paint-like substance on her right hand which seems to come from one of the items. In the next shot when they are coming back down the stairs, there is no white substance on her hand.

  • Factual errors: A bullet shot against pavement would not be able to ignite gasoline, unless it were a phosphorus round. However, there were no phosphorus rounds in production at the time.

  • Revealing mistakes: When the pressure builds up and Troy is launched off the toilet by large amounts of water, you can easily see the platform he is sitting on and the pipe that pushes the platform up. Also, he is wearing red underwear on the toilet.

  • Revealing mistakes: Strings that hold the bats can be seen.

  • Continuity: After the Fratellis pull the kids out on the deck of One-Eyed Willie's ship, Mouth has a mouth full of jewels. When Data shoots the suction cup dart at Mama Fratelli's gun and it starts to pull him toward her, Mouth's mouth is open and no jewels are there; in the next shot they are back.

  • Revealing mistakes: When Sloth swings down to rescue Stef and Mouth from the plank, you can clearly see that there is a mock-up of Stef and Mouth that Sloth is rescuing, not real people.

  • Continuity: While the boys are going through the attic one of them knocks over a picture frame. The framed object is horizontal while the hanging wire in the rear of the picture is for something that is framed vertically.

  • Revealing mistakes: While in the basement of the Lighthouse Inn, Mikey argues with Brandon about continuing on with the Goonie adventure. If you listen carefully, you can hear Mikey call Brandon by his real name-Josh.

  • Continuity: While on the pirate ship and Mouth is reading the map, Andy picks up the doll twice and sets off the booby trap twice too.

  • Continuity: When the kids are jumping off the pirate ship you can see Data jumping off twice.

  • Errors in geography: The film takes place in Astoria, Oregon. The last scene of the movie shows the pirate ship sailing off to the west, and we see the sun in the background. However, the scene is supposed to be taking place in the morning, not late afternoon (as it would have to be with the sun in that spot over the Pacific Ocean on the West Coast).

  • Continuity: Andy is made to walk the plank. While she is on the plank her arms are tied together; while she is falling her arms are crossed. Then back in the water they are tied again.

  • Revealing mistakes: Chunk has a mole on his left upper lip. It's particularly obvious when he is reading about Chester Copperpot in the attic. But when he is thrown into the back of the black jeep, sees the dead body, and screams, the mole is on his right upper lip. It's the actor's own mole, rather than a Hollywood mole, leading to the conclusion that the negative was flipped.

  • Continuity: When the Fratellis are about to make everyone walk the plank aboard the Spanish ship, we see that Sloth is wearing boots. When the Fratelli brothers try to distract him by making him jump rope, there is a close-up of his feet in which he is shown wearing sneakers.

  • Continuity: When Mikey is pushed up through the hole they break in the wood on the pirate ship, there are jagged edges. Later when he looks back down the hole to the others, all the broken pieces of wood have been removed and there is a perfectly square hole.

  • Continuity: Brandon fixes the light up in the attic twice

  • Revealing mistakes: When they are all in the restaurant, and Brandon says it's not important, Mikey replies, "There is something buried under there, Josh!" (Josh Brolin plays Brandon).

  • Continuity: When Mikey asks Mouth to translate the map in the attic, Mouth is wearing a pirate hat. In the next shot, the pirate hat is gone, with no time for Mouth to have taken it off.

  • Continuity: Andy's foot repeatedly switches from on the bucket to off when they're in the well talking about Chester and that they got further than him. Then we see her put her foot up ready to be pulled up.

  • Continuity: The sink that Mouth is sitting in at the Walsh home is different in the close-up of Brandon turning the water on.

  • Continuity: When the maid pours the jewels from the bag into Mikey's mom's cupped hands, she is wearing dark nail varnish. When the shot switches to being from above, the hand holding the jewels has clean finger nails with no varnish.

  • Revealing mistakes: When Chunk is in the freezer with the body, the dead guy blinks twice.

  • Continuity: When Andy makes the first mistake on the bone piano, a huge hole appears and Mouth almost falls in. When she makes the second mistake, another hole appears and Brandon almost falls in, but the first hole has gone, and only reappears when the puzzle is solved.

  • Audio/visual unsynchronized: In the Goonie house, when Mouth, Mike, and Brandon are telling Chunk all his made up stories, Mouth tells him about when he said he ate his weight in pizza. Mouth's mouth doesn't match up to the words being said. He actually is saying "Pizza Hut", but when Pizza Hut refused being mentioned in the movie, Corey had to dub "Godfather's Pizza" in afterward rather than shoot the entire scene over again.

  • Revealing mistakes: When Mikey's dad tears up the contract and tosses the pieces into the air, you can clearly see another extra bunch of pieces thrown up in the same direction, but a second after the initial throw.

  • Continuity: When Chunk is drinking out of the cooler it is almost empty but when he hits it and grabs it to try to keep it from falling it is more than half full.

  • Incorrectly regarded as goofs: At the end of the movie, Data tells the news reporters that the "octopus was really scary". This actually refers to a deleted scene, but there's nothing to indicate that he wouldn't just make stuff up and talk about something which (in the final version of the film) didn't happen. The octopus scene is included in the TV version of the movie.

  • Continuity: Jake Fratelli drops the cloth sack on the deck of the pirate ship twice.

  • Revealing mistakes: When Chunk kicks over the framed article of Chester Copperpot in the attic, an adult's hand picks it up, not a child's hand.

  • Revealing mistakes: When the bats fly out of the fireplace, in the scene in which the Fratelli's are questining Chunk, it is obvious that some of the "bats" are bow ties.

  • Continuity: When Data is going to use the zip-line to Mikey's house, the back of his hands are facing the house, but when he starts to move down the line, his hands are the other way.

  • Revealing mistakes: Brandon has his hand on top of the gas lantern, this would cause a terrible burn on palm of hand. The lantern is later used to light candles.

  • Continuity: The words atop the issue of "Guns & Ammo" magazine that Troy reads on the toilette change. In the first frame, the headline reads, "The 2nd Amendment Means What it Says," whereas only seconds later it reads "40 Years of Weatherby Rifles." It is likely that they had to change magazines during later takes.

  • Continuity: While going down to enter the cave, Data's shoes are white with a black Nike sign. In the next shot he is wearing black shoes and a white Nike sign.

  • Crew or equipment visible: When the Fratelli brothers are pulled over on the side of the road to grab Chunk, there are cables coming out of the back of their vehicle and go off towards the forest on the side of the road.

  • Factual errors: Since the pirate ship is completely walled-in underground, where is the light coming from?

  • Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): When Andy is playing the bone piano she comments that she cannot tell if the next note is an "A Sharp" or "B Flat". They are the same note. Even if she is rusty, she does remember how to read notes and would have learned that fact.

  • Revealing mistakes: At the bone organ, when the kids look at the scores, one can see something like a line of single notes (a melody) with a few chords, but quite a long line. The girl just plays a few chords. Furthermore, at one point she says 'a c-sharp d' and nothing even similar to that is played by her.

  • Continuity: Right before they found Chester Copperpot's remains, both Brand and Mouth were carrying different lanterns. In the next scene, Brand was carrying the lantern that Mouth had, with no time to switch lanterns.

  • Revealing mistakes: When Mikey picks up the line of string for the first booby trap, its an adult hand that pulls at the string first.

  • Miscellaneous: When The Goonie Boys (minus Brand) are riding their bikes to the shore, Mikey drops the map, jumps off his bike to go get it, and then leaves his bike in the middle of the road.

  • Continuity: At the beach Francis Fratelli shifted the Jeep into 4LO (4x4 low range, very slow) The accelerating characteristics and highway speeds on the beach don't match a Jeep in 4LO. Shifting at that rate of accelerating would be very jerky and the top speeds not likely.

  • Continuity: In the underground tunnels, Mama Fratelli never appears wet, even though they would have chased the Goonies through the waterfall at the wishing well and down the water slide tunnels to arrive at the ship.

  • Audio/visual unsynchronized: When the Goonies first walk into the tunnel, Andy says "We've been walking forever. How far do we plan on going?" It is obviously a voice-over because Andy is mouthing something else when she "says" the line.

  • Continuity: When Mikey is reaching to put the copper stone on the three stones, he has it in his left hand. But when he's putting it on the stones, it's in his right hand.

  • Continuity: In the scene where Chunk is being put in the boot of the Fratelli's car the mole on his face changes sides frequently.

  • Continuity: The red bandana headband on Josh's character keeps changing its design back and forth.

  • Continuity: After crossing the log over the river, as Data turns to make a rude gesture at the Fratellis, he is shown turning over his right shoulder. In the next shot, taken from the other direction, he turns over his left.

  • Factual errors: When Mouth removes the caps from the bike tires as the Goonies embark on their adventure, we hear air escaping. However, they needed to depress the center pin on the tire stem for air to come out. The caps are merely cosmetic.

  • Crew or equipment visible: A camera is visible in the ORV's side view mirror when Mama Fratelli tells Francis to hurry up.

  • Miscellaneous: At one point there is a newspaper with a headline that reads something like, "Fratelli's At It Again." This is grammatically incorrect. There should be no apostrophe after "Fratelli" since it is not possessive, but plural, and should simply read, "Fratellis."

  • Continuity: When Mrs. Walsh and Rosalita leave, the screen door doesn't close, and is left open when the Goonies go up to the attic. When the door bell rings, and they all go outside, they have to open the screen door to get outside.

  • Revealing mistakes: The shot showing Data shooting the suction cup at Mama Fratelli's gun was taken from where he shot it at the garbage can earlier in the movie.

  • Continuity: When they go up to the attic, Josh Brolin's character fixes the light bulb twice, once with a tap and then he smiles, the second time directly afterward by thumping the beam of the roof.

  • Revealing mistakes: Every time Mouth translates instructions from the map, the phrases rhyme. If they rhyme in Spanish, they would be unlikely to rhyme in English too.

  • Continuity: When Chunk follows Sloth down the hole in the fireplace in the basement of the restaurant, he grabs a lantern. He quickly touches it to turn it on, as if it had a switch.

  • Audio/visual unsynchronized: When the people in the car reveal themselves to be the Fratellis, Jake Fratelli starts to sing a song in Italian. When the camera turns to show Chunk screaming, you can still hear Jake Fratelli singing, yet you see him in the mirror and his mouth is closed.

  • Continuity: When Mr. Walsh tears up the papers at the end of the movie, it is obvious that someone else throws more paper than what he had.

  • Continuity: When the kids ride to the restaurant, Chunk begs everyone for a Baby Ruth that he supposedly doesn't have, but when meeting Sloth he offers a Baby Ruth.

  • Crew or equipment visible: (At 81:05) Crew-member's arm cueing an event in middle-left of frame, as the kids are climbing the rope-ladder onto the ship.

  • Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): When Brand goes out to his bike, he claims that his tyres have been punctured, when in fact they have just been deflated.

  • Continuity: When the Fratellis get back to the summer restaurant with the pizza it shows one of the Fratellis with a piece of cheese pizza in his mouth, yet Chunk and one of the Fratelli brothers repeatedly say that it is pepperoni pizza.

  • Errors in geography: The story takes place in Astoria, Oregon, but the beach scenes are clearly shot north of Cannon Beach, with Ecola Head in the near background and Haystack Rock farther back. Cannon Beach is a good 30 miles from Astoria, too far for the kids to ride their bicycles to in the time given. The only road (other than mountain logging roads) connecting the two towns is Highway 101, which carries too much traffic for kids to ride on. Astoria is not even directly on the coast at all, and the nearest Pacific beach is about ten miles west.

  • Continuity: The logs in in the fireplace at the Fratelli's basement have burning embers on them. Then the embers are out when the Goonies enter through the secret hole. Then the embers are burning again when the Goonies tell Chunk to go get help.

  • Revealing mistakes: When Sloth is watching TV before he breaks free, there's a shot of the TV where Sloth's face is reflected on the screen. His face is deformed, but the reflection of his face on the TV screen doesn't show his right eye deformed.

  • Crew or equipment visible: In the scene where the kids are climbing onto the ship after finding it, a man (probably crew) can be seen on the left side of the screen on the ship, waving his arm.
