  • The opening scenes (Daniel in the shower, and the confrontation in the parking lot with Kreese) are scenes that were filmed for, and edited out of the end of The Karate Kid. The new scenes begin when the title card "Six months later" appears.

  • At the very beginning of the scene where Yukie and Miyagi are on their evening walk, she is heard asking him if he remembers their song. The tune Miyagi sings to her is the same one he lazily sings to himself at the very start of the 'drunken anniversary' scene from the original Karate Kid. Both times, Miyagi is heard singing off camera.

  • Some scenes cut from the original script include a scene introducing a mysterious character named Webster Miyagi who waits for Miyagi outside the tournament building, to whom Miyagi reacts in an uncomfortable manner, and also a scene of Daniel and Ali breaking up because of Ali leaving for Europe for the summer.

  • Work on this sequel started ten days after the release of the first film.

  • Towards the end of the village storm scene, Chozen speaks angrily in Japanese toward Daniel as he flees into the night. He says "Kono yarô! Koroshite yaru zo!". Translated: "You bastard! I'm going to kill you!"

  • Danny Kamekona also played a character named "Sato" in the "Magnum, P.I." (1980) Season 3 episode, "The Eighth Part of the Village."

  • The music that Chozen switches to after Miyagi and Daniel are picked up from the airport is the same ballroom music that is playing in the first The Karate Kid (1984) when Ali and Johnny are dancing to when she punches him in the nose.

  • During the fight between Chozen and Miyagi (When Chozen is armed with the spear), Chozen strikes Miyagi on the back with the spear. This is the only time in the entire movie series someone lands a successful strike on Miyagi.
