How To Go Bigger With Transformers 3: Unicron

4 November 2009 7:03 PM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

You Transformers fans know what I’m talking about when you see the name “Unicron.”

That’s right. If you thought Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen was a massive convoluted mess of nonsense and wasted… well, everything, coated in a big pile of explosions and sometimes-awkward visuals, then you’ve seen nothing yet. How can you introduce and misuse even bigger characters for Transformers 3 after what happened with Devastator and many others in Revenge of the Fallen?

Well, you introduce the Death Star Transformer!

For those who have no idea what I’m talking about, Unicron was the antagonist character introduced in the 1986 animated Transformers: The Movie. He’s so big that he transforms into a mechanical planet, or as Obi-Wan Kenobi would describe, “that’s no moon.”

I’ll try to be as brief as possible in describing Unicron’s role in that movie and how »

retro trailer: ‘Transformers: The Movie’

31 October 2009 1:13 PM, PDT | www.flickfilosopher.com | See recent FlickFilosopher news »

I dunno about you, but I could probably come up with a few other films that are more incredible rock ’n’ roll adventures than this one. Holy shit: Orson Welles was in a Transformers movie. That’s beautiful. Oh, man: the rainbow flare on the titles... the power-rock score... the Judd Nelson. The 80s, it burns. The Japanese title is so totally awesome, I can’t even begin to unpack how totally awesome it is: Transformers the Movie: Apocalypse! Matrix Forever. Transformers: The Movie is out of print on DVD, but used copies are available in Region 1 and Region 2. »

Trailer For Richard Linklater’s ‘Me and Orson Welles’

9 October 2009 4:08 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

I have a love/hate relationship with the work of director Richard Linklater. His Slacker and Dazed and Confused films were great, and School of Rock was fun. But the romantic borefests Before Sunrise and Before Sunset, like the animated Waking Life, put me to sleep.

So, I’m not sure what to expect with his upcoming feature, Me and Orson Welles. The new trailer Linklater’s latest work recently debuted and you can watch here, courtesy of Yahoo! Movies.

On the one hand you have the character of Orson Welles (played by Christian McKay), one of Hollywood’s most famous personalities. Though Welles’ Citizen Kane tops the American Film Institute’s “100 Years…100 Movies” list, he is perhaps better known for his fall from hotshot celebrity director to desperation. At the end of his life, he was so hard-up for money that he wouldn’t say no to any job. »

Transformers 3 May Lack Michael Bay and Unicron

24 July 2009 6:26 AM, PDT | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

With the massive success of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, a sequel was certain to follow. Director Michael Bay, who worked on the Transformers movies back-to-back, has already said he wants to do a different movie before he does another tour in the robotic world. But would a Transformers 3 get made without Bay? Transformers producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura explained to IGN that a Bay-less sequel is possible:

As the producer I'd certainly love to see him back. I can't imagine Transformers without him. I guess the studio will see it sometime as such a big asset that they are forced to do it, but Michael has never intimated anything like that — the timing is the big question for him, not whether he is going to do it or not. So it's less about Bay wanting to do another Transformers and more about whether Paramount wants to wait for him to be ready. »

'Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen' Brings Stars' Fantasies To Life

Shia Labeouf and Megan Fox reveal their favorite aspects of the sequel.

A lot of actors like to say that working on a particular film was a dream come true. But for Megan Fox and Shia Labeouf, a unique combination of personal touches, lifelong hopes and tongue-in-cheek moments made this week's "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" exactly that.

"I'll say one word: songs," Labeouf grinned when we caught up with him recently. He was making reference to Stan Bush's "The Touch," a classic '80s song featured prominently in 1986's "Transformers: The Movie" — which the actor successfully lobbied director Michael Bay to bring back for the sequel. "Seriously. ... There's a remix, and it's in the movie. Who would have thought that? I've been fighting for that since forever!

"It's one of my favorite songs of all time, »

Exclusive: ‘Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen’ Star Shia Labeouf Has ‘The Touch’

17 June 2009 10:30 AM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Shia Labeouf likes music. One song in particular really seems to move him: Stan Bush’s “The Touch.” Some of you might know it from “Transformers: The Movie” (1986). Others may recognize it as a recent downloadable release for the “Guitar Hero” video game. Everyone remembers Mark Wahlberg’s terrible rendition of it in “Boogie Nights.” And if you don’t, you should correct that.

Now we have a new version to… errr… well, not necessarily enjoy so much as chuckle at. Wincing is an acceptable response as well. Because hearing the “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” star sing it for MTV is equal parts hilarious and painful. Even he knows it. Sorry, Shia… you still kick ass. Just don’t sing in public anymore. Ever.

Stan Bush Really Wants On the ‘Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen’ Soundtrack

20 May 2009 11:00 AM, PDT | The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news »

In the 1986 animated classic, Transformers: The Movie, guitarist and songwriter Stan Bush gave us the musical classics known as “Dare” and ”The Touch“.  Apparently, Bush also submitted tracks for director Michael Bay’s 2007 live-action Transformers film but was told by the filmmakers that they weren’t interested.

This time around, and in hopes of landing a spot on the upcoming Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen soundtrack, Bush has recorded an updated version of “The Touch”, dubbing it “Sam’s Theme” — obviously referring to Shia Lebouf’s character, Sam Witwicky. But that’s not all.

He’s also put together a music video as well to help sell the idea to Bay and company. On May 14th, this version hit YouTube and received, shall we say, a less than stellar reception from fans. Undeterred, Bush posted a re-edit 2 days later and included more footage from the  the live-action Transformers films.

Transformers 2 May Be Wrongly Faithful to Animated Transformers Movie. Today in Film Bloggery 05/15/09

15 May 2009 2:31 PM, PDT | Spout.com | See recent Spout news »

Michael Bay is apparently a big fan of the 1986 animated cult classic Transformers: The Movie. Last month, he revealed his desire to get Leonard Nimoy, voice of "Galvatron" in the cartoon film, to voice a robot character in his latest live-action installment, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. And awhile back it was revealed that the sequel might have a new version of Stan Bush's terrible '80s anthem "The Touch" on its soundtrack. But are these the correct ways to pay homage to the old series/movie? Wouldn't we rather actually have Transf ... »

Someone Tell Stan Bush to Give Up on "Transformers"

15 May 2009 11:40 AM, PDT | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

If you're familiar with the 1987 Transformers: The Movie, you might remember the theme song "The Touch" by Stan Bush. If you don't, it's okay. It sucks. In 2007, Bush re-recorded a new version of "The Touch" and submitted it to be included for the Transformers movie soundtrack, but they rejected it and went with Linkin Park's "What I've Done" instead. So what did Stan Bush do? Why, he recorded a Linkin Park version of "The Touch," naturally.

{youtubehd}U3_EXxwDpq0{/youtubehd}

Yes, he made this himself, complete with splicing in Transformers footage, to convince Michael Bay and Co. to put him in the Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen soundtrack. Yes, he even went so far as to call it "The Touch: Sam's Theme."

Yeah, no. Let's put aside the fact that this version is even worse than the original, they already have the real Linkin Park doing a new song »

Don't Watch: Stan Bush's 'The Touch' Transformers 2 Version

15 May 2009 11:25 AM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Those of you who are hardcore Transformers fans are more than familiar with the classic (dare I call it that?) Stan Bush song "The Touch" that is featured in The Transformers: The Movie from 1986. It was, uh, great at the time, or at least, it was hilariously awful and so cheesy that it could be an easy replacement for Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up." Worst of all, for no good reason, Stan Bush is back and he has remade "The Touch" for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Please don't tell me this song is in the movie at all?! I can actually listen to the original 1986 "The Touch", but this remake, wow, this is just awful! Thanks to our friends at SlashFilm for pointing this out. Or maybe, it wasn't good that they ever mentioned this. If you're curious, you can read the back story behind how »

Transformers 2 Soundtrack Has Got ‘The Touch’

14 May 2009 11:13 PM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Our jolly friends over at Slashfilm (and TFW2005) have uncovered something that, if left uncovered, might result in a firestorm of bad karma for our site -- it is a look at the remix of Stan Bush's cult classic song "The Touch," which was originally featured on the soundtrack for the 1986 animated film Transformers: The Movie. It has been given a modern upgrade or two and will now be called "The Touch: Sam's Theme" (it always has to be about Sam, doesn't it). You can check out the new song via the embed below, along with the original video. I've also included -- because it is yet another thing that I missed last week -- the MySpace first look at Linkin Park in the studio, working on their new song "New Divide," which will also be featured on the soundtrack for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Transformers 2 Writers Might Not Return for Third Film

25 March 2009 10:30 AM, PDT | WorstPreviews.com | See recent Worst Previews news »

On the Don Murphy forums, writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman (Transformers, Star Trek) revealed that they might not return for a third "Transformers" film. "Time for fresh blood!," said Orci [via /Film]. "The main reason we would move on is because we risk getting stale and comfortable. If you only sing one song for too long, you miss the opportunity to sing news songs. We'll see." Orci added that he has spoken with Leonard Nimoy ("Star Trek") about voicing The Fallen, the main villain in "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen." "I actually talked to him about it, given the odd coincidence that he is Michael Bay's cousin through marriage, but fan outcry has also put Welker in the running." Nimoy voiced Galvatron in the original 1986 animated "Transformers: The Movie," while Frank Welker voiced Megatron, Soundwave and Galvatron in the original 1980s animated TV series. Leonard Nimoy on Top List to Voice Fallen in 'Transformers 2'

25 March 2009 12:21 AM, PDT | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

Two things came out from Roberto Orci this week regarding "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" and its sequel "Transformers 3". On the former, the scribe noted via Don Murphy forum that he has been in talks with Leonard Nimoy, who is also in his upcoming movie "Star Trek", to voice The Fallen.

Nimoy is known to have filled in the voice for Galvatron on the animated version of "Transformers: The Movie". Orci has put him on top of his list, mainly for that reason and the fact that Nimoy is director Michael Bay's cousin by marriage. However, fans of the robot clan are also suggesting Frank Welker who had voiced several characters in the TV series version.

"I actually talked to him about it, given the odd coincidence that he is Michael Bay's cousin through marriage, but fan outcry has also put Welker in the running," Orci wrote. »

Could Leonard Nimoy be the Voice of the Fallen in 'Transformers 2'?

24 March 2009 4:36 AM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Slash Film came across an interesting note in the Don Murphy forums where Star Trek and Transformers scribe Roberto Orci says he has spoken with Leonard Nimoy about voicing the character of the Fallen in Michael Bay's Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Orci posted: I actually talked to him about it, given the odd coincidence that he is Michael Bay's cousin through marriage, but fan outcry has also put Welker in the running. Nimoy provided the voice of Galvatron in the original 1986 animated Transformers: The Movie, but the Welker Orci mention is Frank Welker who voiced many of the characters in the original 1980s animated television series including Megatron, Soundwave and Galvatron. I know this isn't huge news, but being a Nimoy fan I found it mildly interesting. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen hits theaters on June 24. »

Stan Bush on TF2 Ost?

18 March 2009 6:39 AM, PDT | JoBlo.com | See recent JoBlo news »

Stan Bush's song 'The Touch' was integral to what was literally the greatest film scene of my childhood. It played when Optimus Prime took the fight upon himself in the animated Transformers: The Movie. Now, twenty or so years later, Stan Bush hopes his song will make a comeback in Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen. The song - which you should also remember Mark Wahlberg covering in Boogie Nights - has been rerecorded by Bush, who has submitted it for the film. According to sources, all of... »
