Who knew that Klingons celebrate Christmas?

Apparently, someone has gone to the trouble to cram Star Trek into the holiday season because why should Star Wars fans be the only ones who have to suffer?
Christmas may have come and gone as fast as Santa on his dilythium crystal powered reindeer, but that doesn't mean you still can't enjoy the unintentional hilarity of A Klingon Christmas Carol. The sci-fi io9 found a clip of the show from a morning show interview they did on Fox 9 in St. Paul. Here's a bit of a spoiler: it's hard to tell that Scrooge has been rehabilitated in the end since all Klingon-speak sounds like an anvil has been stapled to their tongue.

Star Trek Fan's Lawsuit Dropped

A Star Trek fan's $7 million (£4.4 million) lawsuit against a New York auction house he accused of selling him "bogus" memorabilia from the TV series has been dropped.
Trekkie Ted Moustakis claimed bosses at Christie's auction house intentionally lied about three items billed as "one of a kind" and used by Commander Data, his favourite character on Star Trek: The Next Generation.
The items included a $6,600 (£4,125) poker visor, an $11,000 (£6,875) poker table, and a $6,000 (£3,750) uniform.
Moustakis claims Brent Spiner, the actor who played Data, told him at a sci-fi convention, "That's not my visor," prompting the New Jersey man to take legal action over the "knockoffs".
The New York Supreme Court's Appellate Division threw out the case on Tuesday, insisting Christie's had never represented the uniform as being "one of a kind" in its auction catalogue.

Brittany Murphy and "Avatar" look poised to dominated Twitter-Wood's thoughts this holiday week, even if most of the tweeters are leaving their offices to tweet from home and last-minute shopping expeditions right now. Alyssa Milano retweeted a photo taken when she and Murphy appeared on a Uso tour together, reflecting on the time they spent there. Meanwhile, Elizabeth Banks, Samm Levine and David Spade all had different reactions to "Avatar" in 3D.
You can sort out what they had to say after the jump along with a former "Saved By the Bell" star's denial of drunken behavior, Kevin Smith's response to a tweeter about his wife's Playboy photos and former Karate Kid Ralph Macchio on whether or not he plans on coming back to "Ugly Betty." It's all retweeted in the Twitter-Wood report for December 22, 2009.

Has Defying Gravity defied expectations?

'Grey's Anatomy in space' didn't exactly sound promising. But for a programme with that billing, Defying Gravity – which finishes tonight – hasn't been at all bad
Tonight the crew of the Antares bow out, their bold mission brought to an end not by the many dangers of outer space, but by the more mundane earthbound economics of Us network television. What was to be a six-year mission – a tour around the solar system – only makes it as far as Venus. But Defying Gravity does go out in style, which for those who stuck with it, is some small compensation.
When the first episodes hit television screens, initial reactions to the show were largely negative – partly, I'd wager, because Defying Gravity had been described as Grey's Anatomy in space. The first two words were even almost enough to put a diehard science fiction fan like me off – although fortunately, the "in

You don't need a pair of balls to be the new Alan Dale. Despite there being a horde of male actors seeking to out-cult the former Jim Robinson, one American actress is creeping up on him very quickly indeed. Famed for playing stern characters with a somewhat vulnerable core, Michelle Forbes has dazzled viewers with her quickly expanding conquest of cult television. Many thanks to Cult Spy reader Richard Hancock for turning us on to the wonders of Miss Forbes... Star Trek: The Next Generation - Ro Laren Forbes had an occasional part as a disgraced Bajoran Starfleet officer, appearing in eight episodes. Such was her popularity, Ensign Ro returned for the show's penultimate episode in 1994 to round off her compelling storyline. Also, despite all the rubbery prosthetics attached to her face, she attracted plenty of lustful male admirers during her stint. The Outer Limits (more)

Bioware Releases Impressive Cast List for Mass Effect 2

Bioware is one company that takes its voiceover work seriously. For Star Wars: The Old Republic, Bioware hired over 100 actors to voice over 40 novels worth of written material. And now Bioware has announced that it has hired several top-notch voice actors for the heavily-anticipated sci-fi sequel, Mass Effect 2.
Dr. Ray Muzyka, co-founder of Bioware and Group General Manager of the RPG/Mmo Group of EA, reasoned that,
“[e]motionally engaging narrative is a key design pillar for Bioware, and the top-notch voice talent in Mass Effect 2 helps drive this goal. Credible, powerful personalities are vital to delivering a compelling story experience in Bioware’s games, and we have assembled an amazing ensemble cast that surpasses the very high bar set in the original Mass Effect!”
Martin Sheen (The West Wing, Apocalypse Now) stars as the mysterious Illusive Man who commands Cerberus, a secretive paramilitary organization dedicated to protecting human interests in the galaxy.

Reed’s Bargain Bin [1] is a recurring column where Reed Farrington tells us about a movie he bought for under $5, and whether or not he regrets the purchase.
For those who think that the best martial arts films are the ones that star actual martial artists, I present to you two films that defy this categorization: Dark Assassin (2006) and The Fifth Commandment (2008). I wasn’t even going to bother reviewing these two films, but after watching the behind-the-scenes documentaries on each DVD, I found out that much effort and perseverance were involved in getting these films made. So I thought I would at least offer these films some recognition even though I won’t have many good things to say about them. However, discussing these films might be of some interest. And with the recent release of Ninja Assassin, I thought there might be an interest in assassin movies.

'Star Trek: The Next Generation' Actor Brian Bonsall Arrested for Assault

Over the weekend, former child star Brian Bonsall was taken into custody in Colorado for getting involved in a bar brawl. If his name isn't all that familiar, maybe mentioning Family Ties will ring a bell. Known as the kid who played little Andy Keaton on the show, this actor later became semi-famous for playing Worf's son on Star Trek: The Next Generation.
Anyway, Colorado Daily reports that the 28-year-old is currently facing third-degree assault charges for hitting his friend in the face with a bar stool. It's not just that, he's actually been wanted by the cops for years. Brian Bonsall has already skipped a court hearing in July 2008, further damaging his case.

30 Years Ago Today 'Star Trek' Debuted on the Big Screen

Happy Anniversary 'Star Trek'!
On this day in 1979, Paramount Pictures released Star Trek: The Motion Picture in theaters, thus beginning three decades of 'Star Trek' on the silver screen, and culminating in this year's reboot of the franchise with director Jj Abrams' Star Trek. One might also argue that the relative financial success of Star Trek: The Motion Picture also paved the way for the franchise's return to television with Star Trek: The Next Generation in 1987.
Star Trek: The Motion Picture didn't begin as a feature film, however. The erstwhile series' extraordinary popularity in syndication prompted Paramount Pictures and Trek creator Gene Roddenberry to begin developing a new 'Star Trek Phase II' series in May 1975—part of the cornerstone of a new television network Paramount had planned. Work on the series stalled, however, when the proposed Paramount Television Service folded.

It's not just .eljko Ivanek who's chasing after Alan Dale to become the Mr Ubiquity of the cult television genre. For with his devilish looks and huge grin, the magnificent Ray Wise has found himself increasingly in demand since his legendary turn as the troubled Leland Palmer in Twin Peaks. Here's a look at his impressive track record, which contains one very eye-opening overlap with Dale's career... Star Trek: The Next Generation - Liko In the 1989 episode 'Who Watches The Watchers', Wise donned heavy prosthetic make-up to play a Mintakan male called Liko. An encounter with Jean-Luc Picard left Liko believing that the bald USS Enterprise Captain was a God who had returned him back from the afterlife. After becoming embroiled in psychological turmoil about his predicament, he decided to shoot Picard with an arrow to test his theory. Not (more)

Why One 'Stargate' Fan Has Stopped Watching 'Stargate Universe'

I am sorry to say that "Life" will probably be the last Stargate Universe episode that I watch. Like several members of CinemaSpy's staff, I am an admirer of the Stargate franchise. My enthusiasm for Stargate Sg-1 and Stargate Atlantis has reminded me of the excitement with which I greeted new episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation 20 years ago. For this reason I enthusiastically contributed to the coverage of Stargate Universe before and just after its premiere. When I was on Syfy's recent press tour of the Sgu sets a few weeks ago I was struck by the rapport, openness and optimism displayed by the cast and crew. Their infectious enthusiasm was more than merely an act for the media. Unfortunately, it won't be enough to keep me watching their show.
I think part of the problem I have with Stargate Universe comes from the concept. Call me an unimaginative traditionalist,

Oprah's announcement that her show may end its 25-season run in 2011 was almost enough to unseat "New Moon" as the top trending topic of the Twitter-Wood feed today. Kevin Nealon and Wil Wheaton both had a opinions on her possible bow out of syndication, while Eli Roth and Kevin Smith helped keep "Twilight" alive in Twitter conversation.
Two big names celebrated birthdays last night in very public fashion, as P. Diddy entertained a few folks on my follow list and Larry King got a little rowdy in my pick for Twitter Pic of the Day. I'm going a little rogue with this morning's Daily TwitPic. Warmoth's pick last Friday featured "Star Trek: The Next Generation" star LeVar Burton (the guy with the eye visor thing) posing for a photo op with Neil Armstrong, the first man to set foot on the moon. Of course, the importance of Armstrong's new moon discovery can't hold a candle to another "New Moon," the one that hits theaters this Friday. Not this week.
That's right, the second installment in Stephenie Meyer's "Twilight" series swoops into theaters in a matter of days. This morning's Daily TwitPic celebrates that fact with a look at the new Jacob Barbie doll. The Bella and Edward dolls are old news; now it's Jacob's turn. Shirtless Jacob (if he's got another look, I've not seen it). Check out the pic after the jump.
