• Harry Callahan's character name becomes Harry ''Callaghan'' in the Italian version and titles because the local distributor thought it sounded better.
  
  
• To get a '18' rating in 1988, 12 seconds were removed from the UK version by the BBFC with edits made to images on a TV screen combining footage of a woman screaming in a car and a shot of a woman being attacked by a dog (the latter of which was stock footage from the 1977 film The Pack (1977)). In 2002 these cuts were waived.
  
  
• For its German VHS release in the late 80s, the film was cut by 13 seconds to secure a "Not under 16" rating. These cuts were waived in 2008 when the complete film was re-rated "Not under 16".
