The stuffed rabbit that Tess sets on her desk when she arrives at her new job was made by teddy bear artist Gae Sharp. It was purchased at the Mables in New York. Director Mike Nichols later returned to the store an ordered five more rabbits to give to significant cast members.
Harrison Ford got his famous scar by crashing into a pole on Laguna Canyon Road in Laguna Beach, CA. He was a player at the Laguna Playhouse at the time and got a "rush stitch job" at South Coast Hospital in Laguna Beach. Kevin Spacey was brought in as a last-minute replacement for another actor in the part of Bob Speck. On the day the scene was shot, Mike Nichols, who had previously directed Spacey in Heartburn (1986), sent a car to Spacey's New York apartment, with a copy of the script in the back seat. Spacey learned his lines while on the way to the shoot. Nichols was under pressure to finish the scene so he wouldn't have to postpone his wedding to Diane Sawyer two days later.

Something else that did not make the theatrical cut: in the restroom scene between Tess and Jack during the wedding reception, one can see a woman in white shoes in the stall next to the one Jack uses. That woman overhears the conversation between Tess and Jack about having crashed the wedding. That woman must be the one telling the bride afterwards which is why she tries to confront Tess and Jack while their are dancing.
