Saved By The Bell Movie Happening?

19 December 2009 4:00 PM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Could we actually see the kids of Bayside High School on the big screen? I doubt it, but according to Pajiba, there.s some sort of Saved By The Bell film in the works. Don.t expect more than a cameo from Mark-Paul Gosselaar or any of his pals because this is going to be a film based on the much beloved 90s sitcom likely to feature a brand new cast. Jon Shestack productions has obtained the necessary rights and recruited Jeremy Stein and Ginny Brewer to produce. At the moment, they.re searching for some writers. Again, I remain skeptical, but if the news is true, we.re going to have a very divided fan base. Having woken up to the show every morning for about seven years, I can sympathize with those concerned a movie could tarnish one of their favorite pastimes. After Bewitched, I.ve lost most …

Save Us From A 'Saved By The Bell' Movie

18 December 2009 10:21 PM, PST | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

This had to happen, so maybe it's better that we may not have to wait any longer: Pajiba writes that a Saved by the Bell movie is inching closer to becoming a reality. I know you're thrilled.

Much like the recent 90210 retread, this won't be a reunion but a whole new cast of characters, so no Screech or whatever Tiffani Amber Theissen's character was called. I can't speak for Principal Belding, but if one original character would return, it might be him, just to hold things together. And I can't believe I just wrote that. …

Saved by the Bell Might Finally Get the Big Screen Treatment

18 December 2009 3:22 PM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

It's quite surprising that after turning older television shows like Charlie's Angels, Get Smart, The Addams Family into feature films, many of the sitcoms and series from the 90's have remained largely untouched by the property grabbing hands of Hollywood. That has the potential to change soon as Pajiba reports that a Saved by the Bell movie is in the works. And while there's certainly some interest in revisiting Bayside High School (especially from Jimmy Fallon), the film itself would more than likely have an all-new cast with the possibility of cameos from the original cast members. But does anyone want to see this show as a movie? However, I'm not sure if an "all-new cast" means that it will simply have new actors playing Bayside High School's finest. If you're too young to remember the 90's series or just never cared enough to watch, the show aired between 1989 and …

Saved by the Bell: The Movie?

18 December 2009 3:14 PM, PST | newsinfilm.com | See recent newsinfilm news »

A feature film adaptation of 90’s classic television show “Saved by the Bell” is in the works.  Jon Shestack Productions secured the rights and is in the process of finding a screenwriter. Thus another piece of nostalgia is mined for a revival and silver screen treatment.

The movie would be “based on” the original series, according to Pajiba.  The initial show (1989-1993), centered on the exploits of scam artist student Zack Morris, ran for four seasons, before spawning a single season of “The College Years” and seven years of “The New Class.”

If I may quote a speed-addicted Jessie Spano from a very special episode of The Bell, “I’m so excited, I’m so excited, I’m so…. scared.” My inner child is giddy with anticipation of a possible return to Bayside High, while the cynical, adult me knows they’ll definitely screw this up. I shudder to think …

Part 6: From 50 Cent to Piers Morgan

50 Cent Bought a lot of ugly houses, killed hip-hop in the process

Good work on destroying hip-hop there, Curtis Jackson. Your relentless – and highly profitable – pursuit of the lowest common denominator has turned what was once actually exciting, a musical form that had wit and imagination and some glorious fire in its belly, into something crushingly, ball-achingly tedious, a tail-chasing, scab-picking parody of itself. I mean, well done on the cash and all that, but couldn't "Fiddy" have done something more interesting with it other than just buy an ugly house, some bullet-proof vests and a bunch of vulgar motors while writing rhymes like, "'Til the sun comes up, every night, we party, yeah we party 'til daylight", or, if you prefer, "I'm in my Lambo maggot, my 4, 4 faggot …" Is that it? Is that all the hip-hop fan deserves? Apparently, yes; yes it is. …

Jawbox Return For Triumphant Reunion On 'Late Night With Jimmy Fallon'

9 December 2009 4:58 AM, PST | MTV Newsroom | See recent MTV Newsroom news »

Earlier this year, Jimmy Fallon attempted to get the entire cast of "Saved by the Bell" back together for a reunion show, and while that project did lead to a fantastically wacky sketch starring Mark-Paul Gosselaar as Zack Morris, Fallon ultimately fell short. He certainly followed through last night, however, as "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" hosted the first performance by Jawbox in 12 years.

For those not familiar with Jawbox's oeuvre, they're one of the great post-hardcore bands. They began their life playing in the Washington, D.C. punk scene and put out records for Fugazi frontman Ian MacKaye's Dischord Records. The buzz surrounding their indie success lead to a major-label deal, and they even had a minor hit in 1994 with a delightful blast of melody and noise called "Savory" (which could be found kicking around MTV that spring). The band split amicably in 1997 and splintered into a few different …

The Chuck Klosterman Interview Part 1: Eating the Dinosaur, the State of Entertainment Journalism...

4 December 2009 3:30 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Any pop culture writer today worth a scan online has a unique opinion on Chuck Klosterman. The renown American author and journalist made a name for himself in the aughts with witty, hyper-informed contributions as a former senior writer and columnist at Spin. In 2003, he released a bestselling book of essays about "low culture" under the title, Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs, that dissected, exploded, and---in the case of Saved By the Bell---meta-ized topics ranging from internet porn to why there's only "one important question a culturally significant film can still ask: What is reality?" To readers with an eye on the future, Klosterman signaled not only the arrival of an adored critic amongst hipsters, TV junkies, and geeks; he was the aware embodiment of the modern intellectual turned as voracious consumer of entertainment. And ever since many a beer has been consumed by writers arguing over or coveting this appointment. …

'Raising the Bar' is out. Don't be sad, Mark-Paul Gosselaar. Do 'Glee'!

1 December 2009 12:46 PM, PST | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Things were looking up for Mark-Paul Gosselaar. He'd worked his way back into our hearts by dressing up as Zack Morris on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, TNT finally let him cut his hair, and he was enjoying a successful New York run of The Understudy (read the EW review). Then, the aforementioned network had to go and pull his sophomore drama Raising the Bar, citing underwhelming ratings. But while audiences might not have been tuning in to watch M-pg make his case to the court, we think there is still life in him yet. So for our dear cupcake-feeding friend of PopWatch, …

25 Men Who Might Actually Consider Posing for “Playgirl”!

24 November 2009 10:47 PM, PST | AfterElton.com | See recent AfterElton.com news »

You can’t buy the kind of publicity Playgirl magazine has received for getting Levi Johnston to pose naked.

Well, actually, I guess you can. What did the magazine pay the ex-future-second-son-in-law anyway? Given all the ink and pixels that have been spilled over this, it was pretty good deal for Playgirl, especially since the word now is that he didn’t even do the whole lumberjack.

Not surprisingly, the magazine is said to be eagerly looking for other famous folks willing to disrobe.

We have some suggestions.

But let’s face it: Jake Gyllenhaal and Chris Evans are never going to pose naked for Playgirl. The same goes for virtually every other person on our annual Hot 100 list. These folks are at the very peak of their careers, and they need neither the money nor the, uh, exposure.

That said, there are plenty of other familiar faces (and bodies …

11/23/09: The Big Bang Theory – “The Vengeance Formulation”

24 November 2009 3:44 AM, PST | Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news »

As I’ve said previously, The Big Bang Theory survives solely because of its humorous components. If said humor disappeared from the show, its appeal would be nonexistent. This week’s episode proves this axiom, dropping everything appealing in favor of displaying its poorest quality: storytelling.

This week’s episode begins with a plotline appearing from nowhere; resident butt-monkey Howard is culminating his third date with Bernadette, a waitress alongside Penny at The Cheesecake Factory. Despite never being mentioned before, we are expected to sympathize with this character as if she has been a frequently appearing guest star. Worse, we’re apparently supposed to recognize her and her relations with the other characters without any sort of logical context. This is a grievous error on the part of the writing staff, CBS shuffled the broadcast order of this episode, or perhaps a wormhole opened and spat out this episode from another dimension, …
