Trivia:

This is one of those series that doesn't have a specific first episode. The first episode created was "Some Enchanted Evening" (pushed to the end of the first season because scenes were being re-animated). It was first aired on 13 May 1990. The first broadcast half hour was "Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire" (aired 17 December 1989). The pilot was "Bart the Genius" which aired 14 January 1990.

Goofs:

Incorrectly regarded as goofs: When Waylon Smithers makes his first appearance in "Homer's Odyssey", he has orange skin. He has the standard yellow flesh in all subsequent appearances. This was actually a change that the creators made knowingly. Smithers was mistakenly animated with the wrong color and was made an African-American by Gyorgi Peluci, the color stylist. David Silverman has claimed that Smithers was always intended to be "Mr Burns' white sycophant," and the staff thought it "would be a bad idea to have a black sub-servient character" and so switched him to his intended color for his next episode, the fourth episode aired.

I defy anyone who doesn't love this.

Well, almost twelve years on and I'm still hooked. The Simpsons is just classic. I remember seeing an the first series years ago and being completely transfixed. The whole dysfunctional family set-up had been done before with Roseanne and Married...With Children, but The Simpsons stood out as being special. I don't know whether it's because it's an animated show or whether it's the faultless scripts or the fantastic vocal cast or the wealth of characters, I just know I love it. Every episode is memorable, even below-quality episode still wipes the floor with most of the sitcom's on television today. The Simpsons has a become a part of modern culture, and I sincerely hope it can keep on going for a long time yet. I'm not sure how I'd react if it went off the air. Long may they grace our TV screens and long may I laze around watching endless repeats of it.
