  • Continuity: Biff's car gains a rear view mirror when it enters the tunnel.

  • Revealing mistakes: When the DeLorean is hovering behind Biff's car before entering the tunnel, as Marty is getting out of the car onto the hover board, a brief view of the time circuits shows yellow displays on top, green in the middle, and red on the bottom. The red display (destination time) should be on top, and the yellow display (last time departed) should be on the bottom. This same shot also reveals that the driver of the DeLorean is not Doc, but a stuntman who is clearly trying to obscure his face from the camera.

  • Continuity: When Strickland and Marty are talking to each other in the alternate 1985, there are cracks in the sills around the window and the front door. When the car full of armed "slackers" starts shooting at them, the cracks in the sills disappear.

  • Revealing mistakes: When Marty is watching his other self talking to his parents, Biff's shadow can be seen on the wall. He is waiting for his cue.

  • Revealing mistakes: After Old Biff steals the DeLorean, he backs it up into a dumpster and several trash bags. The dumpster and the bags move before the DeLorean touches it.

  • Crew or equipment visible: Reflected in Biff's car hubcap as he gets ready to chase Marty inside the tunnel.

  • Revealing mistakes: As Griff's thugs are about to crash into the clock tower, you can clearly see the reflection of the huge wiring harness holding them up.

  • Continuity: Marty's distance from the end of tunnel varies back and forth as he travels through it.

  • Revealing mistakes: In one future scene where Griff and his thugs are chasing Marty on the hoverboard, the wires suspending them above the ground are clearly visible.

  • Revealing mistakes: When Mr. Strickland and Marty are talking on Strickland's front porch in the alternate 1985, Strickland can be seen mouthing several of Marty's lines.

  • Crew or equipment visible: When Old Biff says "Something very familiar about all this" a crew member is reflected in the restaurant window behind him.

  • Revealing mistakes: When you see the DeLorean landing in Hill Dale (2015) you can see that the shot obviously changes from the shot of the model to the 'real' car. The cooling vents on the back of the model car are clearly darker and smaller than on the actual Delorean, they don't cover the tail lights at all.

  • Continuity: The cooling vents on the back of the DeLorean change between silver and black throughout the film. A clear example of this is the first landing scene of the DeLorean in the alley in 2015.

  • Continuity: When Biff is unconscious, Marty kneels next to him, unzips Biff's jacket, and is seen reaching in for the Almanac. In the next shot Biff's jacket is zipped again and Marty's knees are above Biff's chest.

  • Incorrectly regarded as goofs: When Marty returns to 1985 from 2015 and goes into the house he thinks is his, a Dirty Dancing (1987) poster can be seen on the girl's bedroom wall. Dirty Dancing was not released until 1987 in our timeline, but history has already been changed.

  • Revealing mistakes: When old Biff and young Biff are discussing the Almanac in young Biff's car in the garage, young Biff tosses the Almanac into the air, landing in old Biff's lap. It is clear that the Almanac, while in the air, is animated not only due to the animation quality, but also that it had no reflection in the hood of the car.

  • Revealing mistakes: When Doc comments on how great the weather service is, he looks up at the sun past the buildings, yet the side of the building facing Doc (away from the Sun) is lit by sunlight.

  • Revealing mistakes: When Old Biff hands Young Biff the Almanac, the book passes through the film split (the vertical bar that divides the windshield) perfectly because it was on a motorized rig. But the stand-in for Old Biff didn't hold his arm at the right height, so Old Biff's arm disappears into the bar that runs down the middle of the window while the book floats across to Young Biff.

  • Revealing mistakes: When Doc, Marty, and the unconscious Jennifer are landing the DeLorean in the alley in 2015, the wires suspending it from its corners are clearly visible.

  • Continuity: When Marty is on the hoverboard nearing Biff on Biff's side of the car, one shot shows Marty very close to Biff, and in the next shot, he is at the back of the car.

  • Continuity: When 1985 Doc comes across the Delorean under the canvas in 1955, his hair is clearly styled as 1955 Doc's. It is only in the next scene (in which the two Docs chat) is his hair back to its normal "wild" self.

  • Crew or equipment visible: When Marty jumps into the water and Griff and his gang fly into the courthouse, the crew (looks like a crane camera) is reflected in the door that Griff smashes through.

  • Continuity: Biff's car in 1955 changes back and forth from a 1946 Ford to a 1947 Ford, as can be seen by the differences in the parking lamps and the shape of the vent windows.

  • Revealing mistakes: When 1985 Doc meets his 1955 counterpart (before they actually meet, while 1985 Doc is talking to Marty on the walkie-talkie), the shadow at the base of the lamppost changes as the camera moves around, but it is not 1955 Doc's shadow - it is an artifact from the job of splicing the two bits of film together.

  • Revealing mistakes: When Old-Biff gives Young-Biff the sports almanac in the car, the two halves of the frame jitter independently of each other.

  • Crew or equipment visible: When Marty does the "switcheroo" in the hotel stairwell to avoid rich Biff's thugs, a crewmember's shadow is visible at the spot Marty jumps to. This can be seen right before the camera pans upwards to reveal Marty a few flights up running towards the roof.

  • Continuity: When Marty is sneaking into Strickland's office, the US and California flags are next to each other, away from the stack of books on the desk. In the next shot, when Marty reaches to move the US flag, the California flag has already been moved next to the books.

  • Continuity: Just as Doc drives up behind Biff (just before they enter the tunnel), the Doc turns the wheel of the Delorean off to the left and also turns his head in that direction but the exterior shot shows the car going right.

  • Revealing mistakes: When they first arrive in 2015, Doc says "Here's our exit" and turns the wheel to the left. Then in the next shot the car turns right.

  • Continuity: Doc has a watch on both wrists. The one on his left hand alternates from dial-in to dial-out throughout the film. Most noticeable right at the beginning when they are arriving in 2015. It is inside his wrist as they arrive but outside when he get out of the Delorean.

  • Continuity: When the Delorean lands in the alley in 2015, the wheel nuts are different than in all other shots of the car and the black DMC logo on the wheels is missing.

  • Revealing mistakes: When Biff starts in on Marty with "You think that stupid disguise is gonna get past me?" he challenges Marty to a fight and Marty says, "No, Thanks," and turns to exit the shot. The edge of the window in the background is the split. When Marty turns, the brim of his hat just barely crosses the line, causing it to disappear for a few frames.

  • Continuity: When Marty walks out of the alley (where the DeLorean first lands in 2015) we see a dark blue car with a white stripe taking off. In the next shot of the same runway, there's a light blue car taking off.

  • Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): When Doc says, "Griff's going to ask you about tonight," he actually says "Biff" accidentally.

  • Crew or equipment visible: During the scene where Marty and Doc talk about going back to 1955, whenever the camera is focused on Marty, you can see what looks like some sort of mechanical device or someone using the equipment outside of the window. This can be seen between 01:01:56 and 01:01:57 and also 01:02:03 and 01:02:06

  • Continuity: At the end of the movie, when Doc and Marty are chasing Biff to retrieve the almanac, and Marty hops out of the DeLorean and on to the hover-board, he straps his left foot into the strap and he is wearing red Nike's. Later when he gets off the hover-board, his right foot is in the strap and his Nike's appear to be blue.

  • Continuity: When he police put 1985 Jennifer in her 2015 house it was dark outside when they opened the door. However, when the camera was facing Jennifer on the couch, you can see that the shoot was filmed in the day by looking at the window behind Jennifer. Then after Lorraine pulls up the scenery screen in the next scene it's dark again.

  • Continuity: Marty is able to cross the café instantly as the camera cuts (just before saying "I'll show you")

  • Continuity: When Marty is on the hoverboard escaping from Griff, he holds on to the back of a surf truck, and his grip keeps changing just before he swerves onto the water.

  • Crew or equipment visible: When Doc opens up his case of "emergency cash", a tripod is briefly reflected in the money cases.

  • Continuity: As young Biff is chasing Marty through the tunnel after Marty gets the almanac back, Marty pushes off with his right foot with his left foot on the back of the board (riding goofy). Later, as an upper body shot of him is shown, Marty is facing the other direction, with his left foot on the front of the board (riding regular).

  • Continuity: When the first Marty (from the first movie) is waving to George McFly while playing "Earth Angel", you can still hear the electric guitar, even though he isn't playing it.

  • Continuity: In the opening scene in which Doc arrives at Marty's house, the time on his wristwatch is actually different from what it was in the identical scene that closes off the first movie.

  • Continuity: When Marty is hanging onto the rope of the jeep while being chased by Biff's gang, he hits the windshield of the car and goes flying toward the lake and the rope completely disappears between shots.

  • Continuity: In the end of Part I, when Marty and Jennifer are interrupted by Doc, Marty is not wearing a wristwatch. But when the scene was re-shot for the opening of Part II, Marty is wearing a wristwatch.

  • Boom mic visible: As Doc and Marty are about to travel back to 1955, Marty says, "What about Jennifer? What about Einstein? We can't just leave them here." When he says this, the shadow of the boom operator and boom microphone can briefly be seen above him and on his t-shirt.

  • Crew or equipment visible: At the beginning of the film, as the Doc departs the McFly house with Marty and Jennifer, the camera is briefly reflected in the rear futuristic shiny license plate.

  • Revealing mistakes: When the Doc is hovering behind Biff's car in 1955 allowing Marty to catch up, the wheels that the car is really driving on are visible.

  • Continuity: When Marty and Doc are getting ready to go back to 1955 to get the sports almanac, Doc makes a point of turning the time circuits on. However, they were already on, which is evidenced right before this when they are shown to be malfunctioning.

  • Revealing mistakes: As Biff and the two ladies in the hot tub were watching A Fistful of Dollars, what they are really watching is random scenes in that movie that happen at different times in that movie.

  • Factual errors: When the car radio gives the college football scores for that day, one of the scores given is "Texas A&M 20, Rice 10." The actual score of that game, played November 12, 1955, was Texas A&M 20, Rice 12.

  • Continuity: When Biff hits Lorraine to the floor in their hotel, her shoes are on. In the next shot, they're off. In the next shot, they're on again.

  • Miscellaneous: When Biff is watching TV, the film shown on screen is Per un pugno di dollari (1964) ("A Fistful of Dollars") but the musical score heard is from Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo. (1966) ("The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly").

  • Crew or equipment visible: Just after Marty's confrontation with alternate 1985 Biff, during the sequence in the DeLorean a camera rig can be seen behind Marty through the misty window.

  • Continuity: The almanac is constantly folded up and put into the pockets of McFly and Biff; however many times the almanac is shown flat with no creases on it.

  • Audio/visual unsynchronized: When Doc and Marty arrive in 1955, as the Delorean slows down, we can hear a screech of rubber on asphalt as the car breaks hard. The car is flying, and so wouldn't make any sound at all except for the engine revving down.

  • Crew or equipment visible: Near the end of the film when Doc instructs Marty to burn the Almanac he 'drops' the hover-board. It can then be clearly seen sitting on a mechanical post - you can see it and it's shadow every time the lightning flashes.

  • Revealing mistakes: When Marty confronts Biff about the Sports Almanac; Biff pulls a revolver and points it at Marty. There are no bullets in the gun; otherwise, the tips of the bullets would be visible in the cylinder. There are blanks in the gun which are shorter and not visible.

  • Revealing mistakes: When Lorraine is pushed by Biff in the casino you can briefly see the padding on her leg to protect her during the fall.

  • Continuity: Biff has placed the almanac cover on the "Ooh La La" magazine. Marty trails this "fake" almanac into Strickland's office where he discovers the switch. The cover is left in the trash can in Strickland's office yet it appears on the actual almanac through the rest of the movie until Marty burns it and "restores" the correct future.

  • Revealing mistakes: When the DeLorean is landing in the alley in 2015 it is raining, but a camera angle shows the main street at the end of the alley and the cars going by are in the sunshine.

  • Plot holes: When Marty and Doc successfully save Marty's son from going to prison in 2015, the USA Today headline spontaneously changes while Marty holds it. If this is possible, then, when Biff steals the DeLorean to deliver the almanac to his younger self, Marty and Doc's memories would be instantly replaced by those of the alternate 1985 - which would mean that Marty would not be baffled by bars on his windows or locks on his gate when he arrives back home there. In fact, they wouldn't have returned gone to that house at all.

  • Continuity: While Marty is being chased through the tunnel by young Biff, Marty's stance on the hoverboard is left foot forward or regular. A split second later the stance is right foot forward or goofy pushing mongo (Front foot pushing). A second later the stance is regular again then it switches back to goofy pushing mongo. Then in a quick shot it's regular again. And at the beginning of the movie his stance is regular.

  • Plot holes: In 2015, old Biff steals the Delorean to travel back to 1955 to give his younger self the sports almanac. Somehow, old Biff successfully completes this task and manages to return to 2015 with little to no issues. However, how did old Biff have any idea how to properly operate the time machine? How would he have known how to operate the time circuits and set the time to go back? How would he have known that the DeLorean has to reach eighty-eight miles per hour before it engages in time travel? Old Biff also failed to refuel Mr. Fusion before going back.

  • Plot holes: After Biff steals the DeLorean and travels back to 1955 with the Sports Almanac the movie states that he creates an alternate time line. Doc Brown does a good job of illustrating this on a chalk board. So if, as Doc Brown states, Biff created an alternate time line, then when he travels back to 2015 wouldn't it be the year 2015 on the alternate time line?

  • Crew or equipment visible: When the DeLorean is following behind Biff's car and Marty is climbing along the side of the DeLorean towards Biff, a wheel used to roll the "hovering" DeLorean along the ground is visible underneath the front right tire.

  • Revealing mistakes: When Marty is spying on Biff in 1955, he is seen wearing black sunglasses. However, when he look trough the binoculars there is no tint.

  • Plot holes: According to Doc, people who encounter themselves through time travel go into shock and pass-out just like what happened to Young and Old Jennifer when they ran into each other in 2015. However Old Biff gave Young Biff the almanac in 1955 without passing out and Marty who saw his "Other Self" in the car with Lorraine, although it made him a little queasy, didn't pass out or go into shock.

  • Revealing mistakes: When doc and Marty are driving on the Sky Way Doc says "damn this traffic," but in the reflection of the DeLorean's front window there are no cars.

  • Continuity: When Marty first arrives at the Tannen residence, he tells Doc Brown on the walkie-talkie "Ok, I am the address you gave me", implying that Doc already knew (or at least looked up) the address and provided that info to Marty, yet after Old and Young Biff leave, and lock Marty inside the garage, Marty calls Doc for help on the walkie-talkie, and gives Doc the address as if he didn't expect Doc to know it.

  • Incorrectly regarded as goofs: When the DeLorean is hovering and is struck by lightning, it isn't moving 88mph. However, the letter Doc sent from the past explained that "the lightning bolt that hit the DeLorean caused a gigawatt overload which scrambled the time circuits, activated the flux capacitor, and sent me back to 1885," so it's not a plot hole.

  • Revealing mistakes: In the tunnel scene as Biff is preparing to chase Marty front views of the car's tag the date is 1951 - it should be 1955.

  • Crew or equipment visible: When Griff drops his pit bull board a blue stand is visible as he steps onto the board.

>>> WARNING: Here Be Spoilers <<<

Goofs below here contain information that may give away important plot points. You may not want to read any further if you've not already seen this title.

  • Continuity: SPOILER: At the end of the movie, when Marty goes to see 1955 Doc after 1985 Doc has been sent back to 1885, 1955 Doc is next to his car, but when he passes out, he does in the middle of the street, well away from the car.
