  • The name of planet Axturiax, the mining colony where the second half of the story is set, is actually a pun on Asturias, a region in northern Spain, known for its coal mining.

  • Since the story is set in a not-too-distant future, the currency used is the ECU (European Currency Unit), which at the time was due to replace in some years the local currencies of several countries within the UE. However, by the time this happened in 2002, the ECU had been renamed "Euro".
