Since the beliefs that parents want to instill in their children can vary greatly, we ask that instead of adding your personal opinions about what is right or wrong in a film, that you instead use this feature to help parents make informed viewing decisions by describing the facts of relevant scenes in the title for each one of the different categories: Sex and Nudity, Violence and Gore, Profanity, Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking, and Frightening/Intense Scenes.
Visit our Parents Guide Help to learn more

Sex & Nudity

None, but a few of the female characters wear low-cut dresses.

Violence & Gore

Some characters are shot, others are shot at.

One of Huck's friends is killed in a feud.(we don't see the actual shooting, but we hear the gunshot, and we see him lying dead in the water)

Huck kills a boar, then wipes his blood on the wall.(This is far less gruesome than it sounds, but we still se the boar-blood)

Huck and another boy are engaged in a fistfight at the beginning. The other boy gets a bloody nose.

Profanity

Quite a few uses of he--, used often by Huck.(mostly used as "He--'s bells")

Several uses of d--n.

One use of "bloody", used by Huck.

Several mild British exclamations.

A boy calls another boy a "lard a--".

Men are very often seen drinking alcohol.

Two men use get a man drunk to get information from him.

Twice Huck is seen smoking a pipe.

Tobacco is referenced once.

There are a good number of frightening scenes in this movie.

Huck's "pap" threatens to kill him, and nearly carries out the threat with a knife.

Huck and Jim come across a wrecked boat. They board it, and Huck overhears two men threatening to kill another men. It is implied obviously that all three men die as the ship sinks.(Huck and Jim barely make it off)

A slave is whipped.(we just see the man swinging the whip, the impact is not shown)

Jim is soon after seen with several deep, long cuts in his back(from a whip).

Huck is shot at the end, and they make it look like he died. (He wakes up safe and sound)

There are a few intense, but not violent, scenes that should be listed:

Huck narrates a part where he must decide whether or not to turn Jim in. In his narration, he talks about how he should turn Jim in because it is the right thing to do, and that God will send him to hell if he doesn't. But you can tell he is simply just trying to convince himsels so, and deep down he knows turning him in is wrong. However, since this is implied and not stated, smaller children may not catch on to the deeper meaning.

A tear-jerking scene involves Jim sacrificing his freedom to save Huck. When Jim carries Huck back to the people they were running from, the people attempt to hang Jim.
